Point buy for Curse of Crimson Throne in Pathfinder RPG Beta?

Curse of the Crimson Throne

Now that Beta is out, we'll be starting this campaign soon with Beta rules. I'm not going to convert anything in the Path, because we want to test backwards compability at the same time. Do those who have played this have any advice for point buy? I was thinking of 20 because characters are a bit more powerful in Beta... Any advice from Paizo staff is also very appreciated =). Thanks!

We've been using 20 points for 5 players going through CotCT. I was going to use 25 points if there were only 4 players. Paizo is known for their difficult and challenging campaigns (which we love).

Yes, I agree these are quite difficult. I used 32-point in RotL, but it was 3.5 and it seems that beta-characters are more powerful. I have four players and I'm thinking either 15 or 20... Has it been easy for your players?

Ups and downs. If it helps your calculations, I compared a Human whatever in Pathfinder to a Human whatever in 3.5. With the new +2 to any ability score, and 20 point buy (in Pathfinder), you can get scores approximately equal to 33 point buy in 3.5.

Seems close enough to me, which is why I went with it. They did ok with the Lamm deal, but that doesn't seem like a big challenge anyways. The crocodile did a number on the fighter though. She went from full HP to -7 with a single crit. :) Thankfully the Wizard's sleep put it down.

Oh, hm. I think I'll just have to do some more calculations. I was thinking that with the old Point buy I would give them 28 point buy. Hm, maybe I should go with 15. Which Hit point-method do you use? I'm pretty sure Lamm won't last one round in our game... =)

I don't think Lamm is meant to last too long. He only lasted a couple rounds in mine, it's his crocodile that's the most dangerous. I wouldn't use the opening encounter with him and his gang as a judge for the difficulty of the adventure though, it's meant to be easy. Later parts, the PCs are going to need all the help they can get.

I use a variant HP method for us. 1st level is the same, but at higher levels they get a certain amount based on their die. For example, a d6 gets 3+1d3, but they have to roll the die twice and take the lowest result. This tends to skew them towards just above average, but still allowing the possibility of high hp. Nothing ever below average though.

I've read plenty ahead, and have faith that the difficult is still high enough to give them plenty of challenge.

Ok, thanks fo your replies! I think I'll try some option for higher hit points at 1st level. Then my players tend to take average hit points.
