I downloaded the Beta from the website. I am making a bard and am confused aboout the Bardic Performance class feature on page 16. It says my bard can create a magical effect once per day per class level, but it doesn't specify what kind of spell, or if it is related to other supernatural abilities such as countersong(su). Those abilities are italicized and seem to be the types of things you can do with Bardic Performance, but I wasn't sure. The way the table is set up, I assumed Bardic Performance and countersong, fascinate, etc. were separate abilities. I just didn't make the connection between them, so I feel that the wording could be strengthened or the table clarified. I wasn't sure where to post this, as it isn't active playtest, just me reading. so Any help would be appreciated. :)

You are correct. Inspire Confidence and the others are all types of Bardic Performance. This could be clarified a little bit more clearly, but could result in the table being crammed and difficult to read if "Bardic Performance" was added to every example on it.

Maybe you could use a little abreviation (BP) after the ability: Inspire Confidence (BP).
I think it's just new players who would need that extra hint, but I don't think it would take up too much room.

That might be a good idea. As they're all grouped together as sub-headings in the main text, I understood it, but the table could be made clearer. Possibly in the same way as the Ranger's Combat Style or Rogue Talents are presented, so Bardic Performance Ability at that level in the table and go to the main text for the details?

Something that has been plaguing me since 3.5 and now even more with the Beta:
Perfect Self
The 20th level monk ability grants a completely useless form of DR. DR/magic is functionless at 20th level. What could you possibly be fighting that wouldn't have magic weaponry or similar DR to bypass it? This is made even more exasperating by the 20th level abilities of other classes (all excellent, granted) being very powerful.
My suggestion is this: Change the DR granted to 10/chaotic.
Similar to the way that the 20th level Paladin gets 10/evil for being the pinnacle of good, a 20th level monk is so devoted to law that the ability should reflect this.
The rest of Perfect Self is fine. The monk is a very solid class and doesn't really need to have Perfect Self expanded at all, but the DR/magic is totally useless and therefore makes the ability not at all comparable to what other 20th level characters get. At least to match the paladin, it should be 10/chaotic.
Any thoughts, anyone?

My thought is: Excellent idea. I have had the same thought as you on several PrCs throughout the years that gave DR/magic as their highest level ability (or part of it). At those levels, it's irrelevant.
DR/chaotic is a perfect fit for the monk in my book.

I also agree that this is a great idea. Make sure that when Jason B opens up the design forum on classes, you post it there as well.

Thanks you for the opportunity to help out in the beta testing. I've been playing D&D for 8 years now, since I was 14 of course making me 22.
Honestly there was a lot about 3.5 that I liked and hated and hoped that 4th edition would rectify these mistakes. While alot of what has happened in 4th edition has not only done this but included new things that I did not expect and was pleasently suprised by, I feel that 4th edition as a whole was really phoned in and had a lot of expectations that it couldn't live up to.
Personally what is being done here is really what I feel should have been done in the development of a new edition in the first place. And I will find a place, other than this site, to post my ideas for what should and should not be done to enhance this game.
Thanks all for reading
