I still have a few questions and this is a good place for anyone else to post their own questions.
First, will Prestige Awards go to every member of the faction as long as one member of the faction completes the task? If the task is "retrive the macguffin" and there's only one I wouldn't like to see anyone fight over it.
Second, what about if you get lycanthropy? Assuredly after it shifts your alignment to an evil one you can't play the char anymore; but what if you get bit by a werebear?

Everyone gets the reward if one succeeds.
Lycanthropy is something we'll deal with if I ever allow a lycanthrope into a scenario. :-)

The guide indicates that equipment from the campaign setting book will be available for purchase just as equipment in the PHB is available. I have a player who is hoping to use some of the regional equipment from an adventure path for his character.
We won't have a copy of the hardcover until after GenCon yet I'm hoping to run a Slot 0 this Tuesday. Does the campaign setting book include regional equipment? Is it provided at the prices within the adventure paths if so?
Would it be possible to see an exerpt from that book with the equipment section to go with the player guide?

The campaign setting book includes equipment seen in previously Player's Guides and other Pathfinder sources. I believe there have been no price changes from when they originally appeared.
We will not be reprinting an excerpt of that gear outside of the campaign setting book.

Joshua J. Frost |

Just to confirm: the class variants from the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting are not allowed in the Pathfinder Society, correct?
Correct. Only the equipment in the equipment chapter has been approved for play. After Gen Con(s), we'll take a hard look at the campaign setting book and see if anything in there can be approved for Season 0.

OK, got my guide and read through it. Waiting for the Campaign Setting book to show in the mail to make the character since we can use equipment from that.
But here is my observation/question: So per scenario I gain 1XP and I can play the same character in mulitple scenarios, just not twice in the same scenario.
So at Gen Con UK, I will be there to play in two different scenarios with the same character. After this is done I will have earned 2XP. So I will still be lvl 1?? Now if I actually was there for the entire four days and gamed each day I could actually be playing a 2nd lvl character on the last day doing one game a day?
Will I still be able to play this same character next year? If I can play the same character next year and am still lvl 1 will I be mixed in with a group of 3rd or higher lvl characters??

You will still be able to play the same character. If you didn't gain any experience between cons you would still be second level.
From the looks of it (I could be wrong here). The scenarios are built for two different "Tiers". For instance, if you look at the current scenario descriptions they are for Tier 1-2 or Tier 4-5 (probably by chaging some DCs and monster stats). So I expect you will be grouped according to the tier of an adventure.

"Assuming you survived all 4 scenarios, yes." I beleive was Nick's reply at Origins. :-)
As to PbP, I don't think there are guidelines yet, sorry.

Somewhere (I believe it was in Lilith's chat) Nick and/or Josh expliclitly said this. The encounters in each adventure include two different sets of stats, one for the lower tier and one for the higher tier. (They also appear to include two different sets of loot as well, if I'm reading between the lines of the PFS PG well enough.)

As I understand it, and I have been trying to keep track, to raise a level in PFS you need to survive 3 Adventures. That is at GenCon if you play all four events, you be a third of the way into 2nd level if your character survives. This garuntees that gaining xp is relevant to surviving to the end and not getting every encounter.
As for the Tier system, I believe it works like this: The Tier will be determined by the average party level. At this point the the APL will be tier 1 and 2. When a group gets to Tier 3 they party as a whole has the choice to play as Tier 1&2 or Tier 4&5. Thus it becomes risk vs reward for them.
I would guess that later in the season you will see Tier 6 gets the same choice as Tier 3, that being either choosing Tier 4&5 or Tier 7&8. With the average at home or game store palyers capping their characters at lvl 8, and with Big Cons actually having PFS adventures for Higher level players.

Well I can honestly say i'm excited to play...but am not looking forward to the slow Character Progression.... :(
Wait ... in a regular D&D game you would generally be 2nd level after 12 hours of game play. How is this slower other than we control the flow of scenarios to the public? Its actually faster at the higher levels. Have you ever gone from level 9 to level 10 in 12 hours of game play? :-)

Also have any rules been developed yet for Society games online like PbP??
I'm confused as to what questions might arise due to online play? I chalk it up to stodginess =p

Oh, just remember another question:
I noticed on the PA charts that there isn't any actual discount to buying items. Does this mean that the ONLY way to gain items is through finding it in the adventure or buying it from our PA charts? If I want a Minor Wondrous Item not on my PA chart am I just screwed?

depends on how you look at it - my college group went through all of age of worms in 12 weeks (one adventure a week)

OP, for balance reasons, has limited access to magic items. There are no "magic item stores" in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. You're not "screwed"--everyone is treated equally and we shall endeavor to sprinkle magic items into scenarios that appeal to all player types over the course of the year.
You should also look on pg 23 of the guide for the base shopping list--of course that doesn't include wondrous items, which have been known to break OP systems faster than a freight train through a fruit stand.

Man, I wish I had that kind of time anymore. I miss my college 12-hour sessions.
That said, we look at it as a time-to-XP ratio and by that ratio progression gets faster than normal the higher in level you get.

I have a question.
Are Play-by-Posts games and other types of online games (Skype, Online softwares like Open RPG and the like) recognized as "home games" under the Society's rules?
(provided that GM and Players are all members of the Society)
AKA is it possible to play/run Pathfinder Society scenarios online (and then report the results on paizo.com)?

I think this is being looked into but it has not been implemented as the logistics are not in set in stone as of yet.

If we are talking of running PBP games on these Paizo boards here, of course, I can see the problem.
Just to precise my thought: if I were to run an online game, I would run it on a forum/chat of my own, would know the players, and would take care of all the logistics involved. As far as the Society's concerned, this would be a "home game" as I would record the results as a GM on the Paizo site from afar.

Agreed I totally see that, but one also normally gets to play a character more than one weekend a year. :(

![]() |

Hopefully you can find a local group to play in. :-)
That would be great! However my location in the UK doesn't put me near any gaming groups, at least not that advertise, and trust me I have been actively trying to find groups.
Sometimes ones location sucks. Which is why i've posted on the threads before about the possibility of online play.

Aside from the standard materials that I will need as a GM, what of the Paizo material will I need to bring?
I've printed out my modules and will have them there. My biggest question is regarding the faction missions. Will I need to make six copies of the faction assignments so that I can hand out the missions? Will the missions be handed out by the marshal instead of the dm?

OK, by my figuring, there are 11 months of play, 2 sessions per month for 22 adventures possible. You advance a level after 3 levels of play, that would mean that in one year if you play all 22 games you would be 7th level.
The following year, after 14 adventures you will hit the level cap of 12 and retire that character and start a new one. Essentially 36 adventures and you're retired.
That doesn't sound too bad to me at all.

According to the PFS Guide, there will be 28 scenarios a year: 2 per month, except 4 each in June and August, for Origins and GenCon respectively. (No idea how reporting works for the ones that release in July, though...) That means you should be able to reach 9th level by the end of the year.
I have another question about release schedules, though. According to what I've seen, new modules release for home play the last week of each month - when does that begin? The GenCon mods release next week, and I assume that's the "August mods," but what about September? I'm having trouble seeing how the convention/store release schedule can work properly if the next round of scenarios is due to homes in less than 6 weeks...

I'm slightly confused about the multiclass penalty. After 3 senarios, you level up, except if you have a multiclass penalty, then you don't. Am I correct so far? If so, when does a multiclass character level up when dealing with that penalty?
You're prohibited from ever having an XP penalty for multiclassing. It's not allowed.

Correct, but you're never allowed to choose to take a class that would cause you to incur an EXP penalty.

So, for example, I have a Dwarf Fighter 4/Cleric 1. I could level up after 3 senarios, but I cannot level up in Cleric levels?
Sure, you could. Fighter is the favored class of dwarves, so your character's Fighter levels wouldn't count when checking levels. a 2nd Level Cleric doesn't incur XP penalties, so neither would this character.
But if you had a dwarf Cleric 4/ Fighter 1, you couldn't take a level in, say, Monk. Because Cleric 4 / Monk 1 incurs a penalty.

One of us misunderstands the Multiclass EXP penalty rules.
I do not see how you are incurring an EXP penalty in your example because a Dwarf's favored class is Fighter, so you can increase either class level as much as you would like.

Bad example on my part. To be completely honest, I'm unfamiliar with the multiclass penalty rules. Our group never uses it.

Human - Favored Class: Any
Dwarf - Favored Class: FighterElf - Favored Class: Wizard
Gnome - Favored Class: Bard
1/2elf - Favored Class: Any
1/2orc - Favored Class: Barbarian
1/2ling - Favored Class: Rogue
As long as you have a race that has your favored class it does not count against you for a multiclassing penalty.
So a Dwarf can be a Fighter X/Any Class X and will never incur a penalty.
Also as long as your class levels are within 1 of each other (e.g. 1/2, 4/3, etc) you do not incur a penalty. So even a Dwarven Rogue 2/Wizard 3 doesn't have a penalty, but when this character levels he has to level Rogue, because levelling Wizard would incur a penalty. The only time this character would choose which class to level is when they are even (1/1 or 3/3, etc).
Where you run into penalties is when you've made a Dwarven Barbarian 3/Rogue 1 (this would incur a penalty and is not allowed in Paizo's game.)
Clearly Humans and 1/2elves are far more versatile as they simply pick their highest class and discount it from the equation. So a human or 1/2elf is the way to go if you want three classes, or two classes that no one favors (for example a Paladin/Cleric or a Cleric/Sorcerer).

Organized conventions and in-store games receive their pdfs in advance of the official release in order to attract players to their venues. In theory, these should be available to them by the end of August.

Don't have the book here at work, but I thought that everything in the PH you had access to, which would include MW armor and weapons, it's only the DMG stuff that you need access to special.

Every character in Pathfinder Society Organized
Play begins the campaign with 150 gold pieces worth ofspending cash. All of the armor, weapons, and equipment
in Chapter Seven of the PH are available for purchase as
well as any of the items listed in the Equipment section
of Chapter 5 in the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting
hardcover. You may not select items from outside of these
lists during character creation.
