Wow. Never realized there was a song that praised Michigan. Now if only this state could live up to it.

Also, raise your hand if you read this thread and thought it was talking about the state and not the country.

Dude, it's talking about the University of. Sheesh, what are you, some sort of lilly livered Trojan?

And, for the record, Michigan > Every other state except Texas > something I wiped off the bottom of my shoe after walking through a manure and sewage plant > Texas

Oh, that was University Of Michigan's song? I didn't know that.

Also, I do like Michigan. I mean, that's mainly because I live here, but still, I like it. Just, blame the news. "Jobs Leaving Michigan", "More People Moving Away From Michigan", "Study Shows Two of Five Worst Citys In U.S. In Michigan". OK, that last one may not count scince those two citys weren't that good in the first place, but still. Things just aren't looking that good for this state.

We better take care of them, before they invade Alabama or something.

Oh, the alternate reality version:

Russia invades Georgia!

Ted Turner vows to fight to the last employee.
Texas, not bound by international law in the absence of direct Congressional action, vows unconditional support.
Texas Rangers join Atlanta Braves in the fight against the Yankee-Communist invaders.
Putin files protests against use of the Chop as a cruel and barbaric weapon.
Files additional protest against the Rangers use of steroids to create super soldiers.
Michigan sports department offers to start guerilla resistance against Russians. Cubans withdraw offer to provide rear area security.

France surrenders!
Sarkozy reminds French parliament he has guts. Orders nuclear strike.
Advisors note Russia never declared war on France.
Sarkozy shrugs, says "C'est la vie" and goes off to party with his hot wife.

And they would have gotten a lot more early TV coverage if they had done it that way.

As well as being total crap. The Russians are basically making it impossible for foreign companies to exploit their natural resources, indeed difficult for anyone without Kremlin connections. The problems BP have had with their Russian joint venure, and the crushing of Yukos, and so one, makes it clear that 'dingo really has very little grasp of this situation. Assuming he is serious, which is never really clear.

Russia makes trouble for the governments in the former Russian republics becuase it considers them to be its own territory, given up by Yeltsin in an absent-minded moment (and to leave Gorbachev without a job) and also doesn't like the fact that many (like Georgia) are fairly anti-Russian and pro-American, which makes Russia feel vulnerable. The current problem has much more to do with Russia wanting to keep Georgia cowed than it has to do with American energy policy (and anyway, it is mostly gas in Russia and it is mostly piped to Europe, not the US).

You so need to be writing for TIME magazine...I suppose Russia needs a Buffer zone. I always thought the difference with the Chechens was that they had supplied the Sadam Hussein regime in Iraq with Fiberoptic comms (uses to provide Iraq with a fiberoptic early warning system out of Mosul) they stole when they took those telecom employees who had been contracted to put in the Phones back in the 90s hostage. They were pissed at Turkey because they had laundered the money and brokered the deal.

Actually it is because you work for Russia.

Georgia launched that offensive against South Ossetia because you planted a false report about Russian weakness that encouraged them to move to resolve their internal crisis.
Russia then acted based on a report by you to them that it would allow yourself and other Russian agents to destabilize the west by spreading Great Lies on the internet, distracting and dissipating the Western Response until Russian supported Abkhazian and other forces from the Caucasus were able to exterminate another significant chunk of the Georgian population. That of course is based on another report you submitted to them, advising that they could engage in large scale ethnic cleansing without suffering international backlash if they used proxies to achieve it.
As for your constant references to Bush, that relates to an incident many years ago when Bush embarassed you at a college, showing your professor that you had failed to do a homework assignment properly. You failed that course, and you have dedicated your life to getting revenge on him ever since.
A twisted tale to be sure.

There. A conspiracy theory that has as much relation to reality as any of Yellowdingo's. Everyone comment and expand on it so he can feel fully involved.

George W. fled to Canada to Avoid the Draft...he's actually an operative from Canada's Manchurian Candidate program.

Well... the weather is not nice in Michigan. It gets the second least amount of sunshine, after Seattle (too bad for paizo). Factor in the lake effect on snowfall and you have a pretty dismal place as far as weather is concerned.

But, yes, the people who come from Michigan are far superior to other people. This includes Texans.

Okay, I concede your point on the weather. I remember a few years ago during marching band practice, it started raining. We didn't really care at that point, because we had to march in the rain a lot that year. Then, it started raining harder. Still didn't go inside. We had to march at games in that kind of weather, we might as well practice in that weather. Then it started to hail. It wasn't that noticeable at first, but then it started hailing harder and harder and HARDER. Okay, so we finally managed to finish the song. Wait, the director hasn't told us to go back inside yet. Okay, I'm starting to panic a bit since he is just the type of director who would have us keep marching through this stuff, and the hail was starting to hurt. Then he finally told us to get back inside. Then, half an hour later, there was a tornado watch. That year just had bad weather.

Now, can we please get back on topic? This thread should be about Russia invading Georgia-the-country-not-the-state, not Michigan's weather

the russians should, at some point, just come to the conclusion that they LOST the cold war, LOST the power to subject eastern europe, the ukraine, georgia, the baltic states (heck, latvia, lithuania and estonia, along with poland, all offered support to georgia yesterday in a joint proclamation). russia isn't winning friends and influencing people here, and it will eventually bite them in the a$$.

You can't just compare two states based solely on comparisons of 2 cities from one state and the worst 2 from the other. I mean, we already knew Detroit and Flint sucked. Compare our 21 best cities with yours and we at least wouldn't be complete oppisites in the field of city quality!

for the record, sebastian started it! nyah! ;)

i have no problem with michigan, well, other than their anti-business tax scheme and union dominated economy (but then, that's why we get more business investment money and toyota plants in texas, so y'all keep doing what you do!).

i just get tired of people dumping on texas, especially people from states being hit hard by a recession we barely register here.

take for instance my hometown. people don't realize that we have the highest density of theater/symphony seating in a central location outside of new york. we have the PREMIER medical center (not neccessarily the "best" hospitals, mayo clinic is excellent, for one) in the world, we have one of the largest and most expensive FREE art exhibits in the nation (menil collection), we were the first city to have a gay/lesbian pride parade (cultural diversity in a "redneck" state? surely i jest), we have the second richest zip code (behind bel air, california) in the country, second busiest port in the country, johnson spacde center, almost non-existent unemployment, very affordable cost of living, etc...

but we're just a bunch of hicks...

gets tiring after a bit...

Uh, I meant 2 best cities. I don't think Michigan even has 21 major cities.
