Does an Arcane Bonded item spontaneously cast 1 spell . . .

A player and I have read arcane bond differently. I read it that the wizard assigns one spell each day to the item, but my player reads it that the arcane bonded item essentially spontaneously casts any one spell that the wizard has in his or her repertoire. Which is it?

I read it as any spell from the casters list.

Current wording is "...any one spell that the wizard knows...", as opposed to "...any one spell that the wizard has prepared..." Subtle, but I would go with spontaneously casting any one spell unless otherwise clarified.

To clarify, I wouldn't say it has to be a spell that the wizard has prepared, but rather a spell that the wizard assigns to the item. That said, I see the distinction you are drawing.

There's nothing in the RAW suggesting that the Wizard has to decide which spell the Bonded item will be used to cast at the beginning of the day. I think the intent was to give the wizard some flexibility with their spells (spontaneously cast 1/day).
