Thanks, Trey. There are signs that today may be a momentous day in the history of the Paizo messageboards. Veteran Heathansson experts say there are indications his long-awaited retort to Sebastian may be nearing completion. They cite a general sense of restlessness in the air and a look of cool yet intense concentration on Heathansson’s face as signs that have in the past preceded witty outbursts, and have in fact been present with increasing frequency over the past several days.

There’s a lot of excitement, Trey. I think a lot of us, myself included, are hoping to see some history made very, very soon. This one has been in the works a long time, so there is a general sense that it will be extremely impressive, even judged by the high standards Heathansson himself has set over the years.

As for the others, there are some in the myriad of sorcerer threads that show up and whatnot.
I was mostly just asking for people to check themselves before they throw out an insult.
Okay. The Fighter 8 thread starts out perfectly reasonably, makes its case with evidence, and takes care to impact why this debate matters. Good form, Lich-loved! Still, this thread is unusual in that its stated purpose is to directly refute another member of the community, rather than a general discussion. It's hardly representative of these forums.
I think that Aubrey the Malformed is a bad person on the basis of quoting a private correspondence in a public forum. Poor show, old man.
I think Frank jumped the gun on his condemnation of THIS PARTICULAR THREAD, although I can understand getting a little hot under the collar. In general, I read the substance and discount the tone.
But ultimately, I think that who's wrong and who's right doesn't really matter here. I'd rather belong to an intellectual community that regulates itself and errs on the side of a free exchange of ideas. If that takes some growing pains, fine. The harm of the ban hammer outweighs the tiny benefit of making you feel more comfortable.
Give me both Frank and Lich-loved. It leads to a better understanding of the issues in the long-term.
thing is, that the mod hammer falling on frank over lich loved creating threads purely for the purpose of attacking him left frank, and many of his friends and supporters with a bad taste in their mouths from this board, even if Frank's account was reinstated, and even if Lichloved was banned himself, Frank would not come back, he has, unfortunately, forsaken these boards, if not this product. Relations may be patched, he may be persuaded to come back, but pursuading would have to be from his friends, and consequences would have to be laid on Lich Loved, because he truely did create threads for the sole purpose of attacking Frank and his ideas.

But the banhammer didn't fall on Frank because Lich Loved made threads to refute his ideas. The banhammer fell on Frank because he was making an ass of himself. He may have felt provoked into it, but that's does not absolve him of his responsibility for his own behavior.
So, no sympathy for Frank because he had to lie in the bed he made...

That this sort of comment is perpetrated annoys me - Lich-Loved did not create threads to flame Frank. That is Frank and K's spin, which a lot of people have swallowed. Lich-Loved created a thread to dispute whether a 8th level fighter had a 50% chance of taking down a CR 8 creature. The subject arose in another thread about rogues, and rather than distract from the rogues thread Lich-Loved, at someone else's suggestion, started a new thread to debate the new topic. The fact that it turned into a an aggressive flame-fest was down to Frank's tactics.
And I think you forget why Lich-Loved had a particular axe to grind. He posted a thread to suggest that wholesale rules changes were not necessarily required as a DM could justify why certain logical oddities in the rules could be eliminated ny fiat - the Lich-Loved Argument. Frank and Co leapt upon him and heaped personal abuse upon him for that, when he was only putting the idea across for debate. The fact that Frank is perfectly willing to flame others while complaining when it happens to him only really demonstrates how we don't need him on these boards, at least until he learns to conduct himself more sensibly.
In the end, Lich-Loved did not get Frank banned, and nor did I. Frank got Frank banned - he was hardly particular about who he attacked, and he was aggressive and boorish to virtually everyone except his most slavish supporters. The playtest threads were being used for a particular, commercial purpose, not as a vehicle for Frank's ego, and he was interfering with that. Plus, the boards are a major pull for the Paizo shop, as it is their only outlet, so hostile chat on the threads is a commercial issue for Paizo too. They are actually extremely tolerant of debate and behaviour on the boards - the temporary bans handed out are extremely unusual sanctions. I can only recall it happening once previously.
Anyway, Frank is gone.

I did something really dumb. I only remembered Sebastian and Heathansson's funny interchange on this thread and forgot what got it all going, and so made a post on it playing off the funny part. I totally did not intend and do not want to reignite the subject, especially since Paizo already had to lock another thread on the subject.
Please, please, please, as a personal favor to me, could everybody let this one die again? I totally feel like a moron right now, and will keep doing so until the thread sinks back to where I pulled it from.
Thanks in advance for your consideration. I really appreciate it.

Just a thought:
If we could get a 'Report' button, we probably would get the problem taken care of pretty quickly.
The problem with trusting us to 'regulate ourselves' is that some people will and some people won't. Those of us who do either have to ignore the other posters (take the high road) or educate them on the expectations of this board. If we take the high road we can't see the thread for the flames and if we educate, we're likely to start a flame war about 'rights' on these boards.
I don't think we need more moderation, but a report button will allow the Paizo staff to know about the problem spots without reading through every thread everday.

As I pointed out on one of the other threads, the contact details of the Paizo staffers (including the email address of Mr. Frost) are available elsewhere on the boards.

Yes. But a report button would allow you to deal with the situation when you see it, not make a special expedition around the boards to find the contact information, worry about whether the spam folders will catch it, or if we're sending to the right person.
If there is a report button, they can set it to go to one place, and make sure everyone can access it. So, if Gary is out that day, James may be the one that gets to respond. Or maybe Joshua.
Or, we can keep doing what we're doing. I don't think we need more censorship or moderation. But if some people just won't behave and we as a community can't ignore it, we might as well be able to report it.

1) A report button may very well end up being accidentally clicked on.
2) A report button may be clicked upon by people of hopelessly frivolous nature with the aim solely of wasting time of Paizo staff; the time taken to write a frivolous 'report' email might very well discourage a fraction of people who might otherwise report frivolously.
3) Sometimes, in the time taken in between reading a post and reaching the email address, you may have had enough time to realise something wasn't deliberately insulting aimed at you or another poster. A report button can easily be clicked on out of instinctive over-reaction... and then the damage may very well be done by the time you think it through and realise something wasn't quite what you first took it to be.
In theory, I can see, a report button might well be a genius of an idea. In practice human beings are idiots at times (myself included) and I have doubts that it would work terribly well in terms of the ratio of genuine incidents averted to trouble it itself stirred up; You seem to me to be the other side of the optimism/pessimism fence from me on this one though, so I'll agree to disagree with you if you like, and let this issue rest.
