Half-orc: Natural Ragers +1 Rage Point?

Races & Classes

I just had a thought, with Rage Points now in the game, what about doing something like the "naturally psionic so you get +1 power point" thing for barbarians? You could have half-orcs gain an extra rage point at 1st level. Just like with being naturally psionic, it wouldn't grant the ability to rage, just give you an extra point.

Looking at it, overall, at very low levels, yeah, it's pretty nice, but in the long run, it's probably not a big benefit, but I think it does fit the race very well.

Having rage points around now is a nice hook to design around since they are small enough that you can do some interesting things with them without massive increases in power. So even beyond having half-orcs gain a bonus rage point, you could have many other of the more savage races gain 1 or more bonus rage points. You could have some abilities and/or feats to either rage longer (i.e. don't need to spend rage point to enter rage, but only to maintain) or to rage harder (i.e. cost of rage powers is decreased by 1) or any of a variety of things.

As an alternative, you can also give a Rage ability to some "barbaric" races, like i do.
If a characters of one of these races actually becomes a barbarian, that's an extra rage per day.
Of course, if you are using Rage Points, that can be converted into rage points.

I think that's a nice idea:

Give the Half-orc +1 Rage point per level, but he needs at least one level of Barbarian to actually rage.

I agree, it would be a cool thing to do, Now I really want to play a half orc sorcerer with the rage spell. Not broken or anything IMO, just cool that the rage points could leak over to that part too. Unless some source states otherwise that is.

Me likey.

Every monster that has class advancement and barbarian as favored class could really benefit from that.

Excellent idea.

Or give him a fixed number of rage points at 1st level, plus one racial ability that costs rage points to activate. If he doesn't go barbarian, he can only use that racial ability once or twice; but if he does go barbarian, he can use it more frequently by spending his barbarian rage points on it.

Edit: Like the elan race; it gets a fixed number of bonus power points and a few racial abilities that cost power points to activate, even if it doesn't take levels in a psionic class.

Good idea, too.
