Kamris is welcome to show up in any of my threads, sword in hand, ready to fight. Surprise me. Pop in just when the battle seems to be going against the players.

I hear there is a ship leaving for the Mwangi Expanse soon...

That would be awesome - thank you for your generosity. That would be very cool.

Hey gang...sorry for my small absence. A combination of working right through the Independence Day holiday and a last-minute, out of town trip on Saturday-Sunday left pretty much beat and resting on Monday.

Nice doing a pbp with you again, Fabes.

Last Seen group:

I don't know how you feel about social/mystery adventures. If you aren't in to the sleuthing or feel it is awkward to do by PbP we can make short work of this with a few knowledge checks. If you want to play it out a bit, we can do it as more of a mystery encounter. Let me know your preferences.

Hey, y'all.

I've been lurking and enjoying both of the Spires threads for quite a while and was pretty floored to see Kamris go -- I don't look at the discussion threads so much.

I'm pretty new to this and you don't seem to be lacking in firepower, but I'd throw my head, er, HAT in the ring if you were looking for another player.

If not (and I understand not wanting to change the awesome chemistry you guys have), that's cool.

That would be Tarren's call. Right now, we're down to 3 players in each of the Spires threads, I believe...

Also, just a heads up that I'm attending GenCon the day after tomorrow...so, Wednesday thru Sunday basically. I'll probably be without internet access during that time. I'll still be checking the play forum through tomorrow and possibly early Wednesday morning to stay as involved as I can. After that, I'll hurry to catch up when I get back on Sunday evening.

--Neil

P.S. Anyone else attending GenCon?

Hi,

I haven't checked here in a while.

I'm not sure what is going to happen as there are a few things up in the air.

If all three people at the Keep return to the spire and Rellios reappears, that would be six -- a pretty full group for the push through the most deadly spire of all.

If something persuades Manfred or Yin or Orlan to remain at the keep and if Rellios doesn't return, that would be a different story.

Sorry, I just can't say at this point.

Cheers,
Tarren

Understood. No worries at all. I've been enjoying reading your games and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'll continue to lurk - holler if you have need of fresh meat. ;-)

Heads up! I've got a family beach trip scheduled next Wednesday through Sunday. I'm not going to have internet access, so after the current scene, Orlan may go about his business again while everyone else handles any wrap-up involving the priest.

Have fun at the beach.

Hello, the lurker's back. Re: your question in the game thread, as I understand it, if you do not have a melee weapon ready, you do not threaten adjacent squares. (Exceptions, of course, for special abilities and such, but not for standard class abilities.)

A foe would not provoke an AoO from moving through a threatened square by a wizard or an archer -- unless they chose to use their always-readied fist, of course. Naturally, a readied action to cast or shoot at someone moving through would be a different story.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

That's what I thought.

In this case, I'm happy with the result. It just became a question of where he fell. It only becomes a important if Orlan channels positive energy, then I need to know if he is within the radius. ;-) Thanks!

Hi all. If you have any feedback on the Beta rules, let's post it here.

Male Human

I'm going to be vacationing at the Coast until late Sunday, Sept. 14. So Sir Manfred will be back then.

He has every intention of going back with Lord Orlan.

Just for the record, Yin makes me laugh.

Tarren has offered to let me join one of the threads and I look forward to playing with a very quality crew here. Any input on a desired character is welcome, though I may not use it -- current rough plan is for a security specialist of the stone folk. As a race, it seems appropriate for the threads and as a class, it seems appropriate for the available slots.

I'm always open to ideas. Mostly, I wanted to introduce myself a bit. Hope I'm up to y'all's standards.

Hee, that's good to know, I always worry that she'll end up driving people up the wall with her bright and impulsive actions :)

Tarren,

My dwarven rogue is basically done. I noticed that Nameless is planning a rogue, also. Is it still cool if I go with this character?

EDIT:

Hi everyone, like AinVar, Tarren has asked me to join one of the Kerrigan games.

Currently I will be playing Janrith, Half-Elf Draconic Sorcerer unless things change.

Here's to some good gaming!

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Welcome Janrith and Ovirid. I'd like to invite you to join Yin in her exploration of the Caves of Chaos.

Ovirid and Janrith: Introduce yourselves ...

Better post this now or I will forget to let y'all know:

I'll be traveling next week and do not know whether I will have much Internet access, so I may be offline for a week after this Saturday.

Tarren, please feel free to DMNPC Ovirid as necessary or have someone else do it, if you prefer. As I've hopefully portrayed successfully, he tends to be quiet and awkward in social situations. In action, he will try to use stealth and tumble skills to put himself in a favorable position. Since it's fairly obvious that Sir Manfred will be his most likely flanker, he will try to discuss tactics with the future knight before they actually reach the Caves of Chaos. He will offer to act as a scout, naturally.

I hate that the timing puts this right after finally getting a chance to get on board with the group, but I guess that's how it goes. You'd better believe that I will try to get online if opportunity presents itself.

Meanwhile, I'm here until Saturday!

Well, it's time for me to go offline. I don't know how much access I will have, so it's safest to assume I will have none. I'm really looking forward to catching up after the vacation. In the meantime, Ovirid will mostly likely keep quiet and do his best to scout for the rest of the group.

Have a great week!

Just having a little fun, Yin. The discussion has been so quiet for so long, I had to put something here.

Perhaps life has caught up with Yin's player. I want to move the game along though. If nothing happens by tomorrow, I'm opening the doors to the keep and sending the caravan out to the hills.

Eep! I hope I didn't provoke you to do something rash!!

Seriously, it appears that she's not been active on the board since Sunday afternoon (via quick spotcheck of her many profiles on the boards)

No, the caravan can head out and she can catch up later. It's no problem.

I'll be flying cross-country to San Diego tomorrow and won't be back home until Friday evening. I suspect I'll be without internet access, but who knows? I may be able to look in on the game, but don't hold me to it. For any interactions coming up that might involve my character, just wing it and I'll try to pick up when I get back.

Weird day.

My wife phones me in the middle of a meeting to tell me someone is attempting to garnish my wages for child support. I rush home not knowing what this could be about. The letter was a legal document but the defendent had a very similar name to me. (Imagining my name really was Tarren Dei, the defendent's name was Tarren-Aray Dei-Richer.) Convincing the province of Quebec over the phone that this wasn't me took an hour. Then I had to convince my wife.

Bleh.

What a day.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

No. She wasn't. What are the chances that someone in the same urban area (Ottawa-Gatineau is kind of one city spanning two provinces) had my name as part of his name? Weird. I think everything is resolved but I'm going to follow up and make sure it isn't some kind of identity theft scam.

Silly thing is, now I have to deal with my wife's anger over the hypothetical possibility that I could have had a child by some other woman. She knows I didn't but I'm still in trouble for it. ;-) I've been married for too long because I completely understand her thinking on this.

You don't have any split personalities, by chance, do you? ;-D

Best of luck dealing with your issue. I can't imagine what it might entail. Hopefully, you'll get through it and the both of you will look back on it and laugh eventually.

I told my wife about your situation last night, sympathizing with your plight and she admitted that she, if she got such a letter in the mail, would be furious and suspicious, even if she knew better and it was all a mistake.

m other rogue/bard/ranger 1/2/1

That sucks bigtime!!
I seen a few people get someone's tax bill before. What are the odds of someone having the same name and a 68 Mustang in the same town? A small town at that.

I'm sure the initial "Can this be true?" feeling in the pit of your wife's stomach makes it hard to get over. That's one of those "zoom to close up, look of shock moments" you don't need infiltrating your life. I'm sure you'll be fine though! I thought my day had gone bad when I got pulled over this morning. The positive is that it ISN'T you...

I'd say a prayer for ya, but I don't think Dagon can help in this matter.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Well, she seems to have forgotten about it. heheheh. Can't believe I got in trouble for what this other guy with a similar sounding name did. ;-) Actually, I can believe it and so can almost all married men.

We are having a bus strike in Ottawa (34th day) and transportation has been a nightmare. I'm having to leave the house much, much earlier and am a bit challenged for posting but I will try to keep the pace of these games up. Hopefully, our bus drivers will get back to work soon.

Nameless (Kelborn), I guess the strike isn't effecting you because you live near the university, right?

Hi guys,

So, some good things have been happening in my life. I've got a new job that starts this summer. I'll be moving to a new city, selling my house, renting a house, etc. Lots of stuff.

At some point this summer (probably around July 1st) I may not be able to post for a while. Any of my PbPs that come to a natural conclusion will go into limbo until September. PbPs that are still active, I'll keep up with even if the posts are intermittent.

I'm sure you all will understand. I just want to give you a month's warning at least.

Cheers,
Tarren

Sounds like congratulations are in order, though I'm not wishing moving on anyone. Ever. I've bought my first and hopefully last house. (I know it won't be forever, but I plan to get close!)

So, congratulations! Not that I know north of the border, but is it a big move? North, east, west? Inquiring minds want to know! ;-)

I'll be heading off on vacation next week, beginning on Monday. Going to Origins with the family. But though the hotel has internet, my laptops busted and I doubt I am able to post between the 22nd and the 29th.

I hope it's cool that I've been posting for Yintarah. I don't mind and I assume she'll be leaving us at the Keep shortly, anyway.

If you want a more "realistic" post for her and she's going to be staying with the party, let me know and I'll create an avatar to match the lovely original.

Rather than breaking up Tarren's 'boast' I thought I would move the treasure dividing discussion to this thread.

We have:

  • potion of nondetection
  • wand of magic missiles (12 charges)
  • wand of detect secret doors (37 charges)
  • cloak of charisma +2
  • ring of protection +1
  • bracers of armor +1
  • +1 dagger
  • platinum coin on a strange cord
  • 24 gems (25 gp each)

Tarren suggested 75 gp worth of gems each with the remainder going into a kitty. I'm fine with that if everyone else is.

Yintarah or myself could take the wands. A cleric would gain the most from the cloaks. I wouldn't mind keeping the coin to find out more about it. Some roguish fellow might like the potion. Any other thoughts on how to split it. Feel free to state what you would prefer and we can go from there.

  • Ovirid is not so much the sneaky type, so he has no real claim on the potion. I think Yintarah might be a natural for the wand of magic missiles as a backup to her other spells. I don't see her being very interested in the second wand -- doesn't blow anything up. ;-) Agreed regarding the cloak - that should probably go to a cleric. Ovirid would be interested in the ring or the dagger. He seems to be getting hit a lot, so he's more interested in the ring.

The proposed division of the gems sounds good here.
