A map of the immediate environment of the keep. Your adventure is not set on this map but follows the Yondabakari off the right side of this map towards its beginnings in the Mindspin Mountains. If you have RotRL#3 on page 62. Kerrigan's Keep is just under the last letter in the label "Yondabakari River" in the Cinderlands. And, yes, it is awfully woody for the Cinderlands. It is protected by the mountains and watered by the river.

FYI...
I decided to strip off Orlan's last name of Orcbane. Presumably, I figure Klyndak and Orlan likely come from the same clan...so they probably share the same last name. And, considering we're going into the Foehammer stronghold to reclaim the throne of the dwarves, I thought maybe we could be the Foehammer clan. Regardless, Orcbane wasn't a very friendly name for our resident half-orc ally to be hearing. So, just a small change for now...

Might I suggest that my teammates intorduce their characters in the game thread with a suggestion as to how they came to Klyndak's notice or how he came to theirs. RPing is good but I think the faster we get into the game the faster we can playtest out these brand new rules. :)

I'm okay with that for our thread as well. Just a simple introduction of how our characters came to be together...and some idea of their personality...is fine. That way, Tarren can move us on to the first encounter and we can see how the rules play out. The rest of the roleplaying aspects can be woven in as we go.
How are we set with our characters? I haven't looked at them in a few hours.
Orlan is pretty simplistic. So I think I'm good to go.

Posted rogue in the original thread.
Let me know if there's anything I have overlooked; otherwise I'll finish up in a few hours.
**Hey look! Twins :-))

Kayos, if it's acceptable with you, we can have Kamris and Yin already as travelling companions.
Tarren - is it ok to make Kamris a local guide known to the barman (a la Strider/Aragorn)? I don't want to barge into the setting too much if it's a bit of a stretch

Tarren I posted this question in the original thread but it probably has been missed in the masses since then.
Do you want a cleric for the second group? The "Last" Group.
I can rustle one up today if you do.
Either way good luck with the adventuring.
Cheers
Hi French Wolf,
Did my response get eaten? It seems like it is my turn to have posts eaten this week. I said something along the likes of 'we're keeping the party small for the playtest' but catch you next time.
Thanks,
Tarren

Rellios... while I understand tha' as a elf ya suffer from self esteem issues... yer 'it points is too low on yer sheet. Rogues in Alpha get d8 for HD.
And there's no such thing as ranks at the moment (subject ta change at the approval of management) so ya should just pick 9 skills and be done wit' it.
EDIT - And welcome ta the team lad.

Tarren's original post said we were using Racial HP, per Alpha - Page 11:
Racial: Maximum hit points for 1st level plus yourConstitution modifier and any other bonuses. In addition,
you get a number of bonus hit points based off your race.
The frail races (elf, gnome, and halfling) receive 4 hit points.
Standard races (half-elves and humans) receive 6 hit points.
The hearty races (dwarf and half-orc) receive 8 hit points.
So: 8 (max d8) + 1 (Con Bonus) + 4 (Racial) = 13
Did I miss something?
Also, 3 more skills added; all others adjusted.
Thanks for the welcome, short-stuff! ;-)
Remember also that you get a Varisian bonus feat.
Great! Done as well. From the way I read the requirements, I thought it was just one feat, but the Varsian ones were an option to pick from.

does Feat:turning smite, effect all allies and undead within normal line of effect rules? Alpha: Feats if it don't strike it from Hru's sheet and I'll get a new feat! another DM ruling please btw:I didn't mind the orcbane...Hru hates orcs too!(as noted in his not yet input but thrilling backstory)

Well, elf, don' keep us waitin' too long. I'm itchin' to find that throne.
*grumbles in his beard* A smart-crackin' elf and a' orc-blood dedicated to chaos. Tis almost enough to make one weep. *More brightly* At least I'll 'ave the Kannonfodder brothers to give me proper folks ta talk ta.

To keep things going at a reasonable rate, I'm going to ask for some perception and initiative checks in advance. How about we have everyone roll up 4 perception checks and 4 initiative checks. Make a note if you have any circumstantial bonuses to perception (stone sense, taste, touch, listen, etc.) and I will add them in when needed. I will randomly draw from these until we have only 1 left and then ask for four more.
Also, I'm going to ask Wicht and NSpicer for the marching order each time the party moves as a group but will pay attention when people move out of the marching order.
The first group has been given the option of approaching the Foehammer Spires by barge but they also have draft horses so they can choose. The second group has been given the option of approaching by horseback (some of the many draft horses that brought the wagon). In spring, the water is too rapid for poling a barge up the river. Let me know.

Are you still short one player in one of the groups?
If so, I wouldn't mind giving these new rules a try. It'll be a while before my F2F group would be free to do so (assuming they even wanted to do so).
I also have a friend who lives in the wilds of Wales, who was up last night, bemoaning the lack of RPG opportunities in sheep-shagger country. I pointed him to these PBP boards as an option.
(Come on Fletch, get yourself an avatar!)

Thanks Snorter but we're keeping the groups small so as to move these threads along quickly. Besides, the Kannonfodder brothers are accident prone. They won't be mismatched for long. ;-).
Catch you next time I hope.

Same here, the invisible castle was very kind to Init rolls!(posted in the game window) I will reiterate a question that seems to have gotten lost: does Feat:Turning Smite, effect all allies and undead within normal burst(formerly line of) effect rules? Or just the creature being hit with the attack? if it only effects the one then strike it from Hru's sheet and I'll get a new feat!
Orlan
To keep things going at a reasonable rate, I'm going to ask for some perception and initiative checks in advance.
"I included 'em in muh last post. If'n yuh want ta know the circumstantial bonuses, yuh can find 'em in muh profile. They involve taste and touch...which ain't likely ta come up that often, I suspect."
Also, I'm going to ask Wicht and NSpicer for the marching order each time the party moves as a group but will pay attention when people move out of the marching order.
"Noted in muh post, as well. I figgur that Shoanti-elf half-breed can lead the way most of the time. I'll stay behind him ta help with recognizin' any sign of muh cousin...and because I'm too short and ornery ta hide in the back of the line. Yin can stay behind me as long as she don't singe muh beard. And Manfred can hold down the back of the line and sound the retreat on his horn if'n we get in over our heads..."
The second group has been given the option of approaching by horseback (some of the many draft horses that brought the wagon). In spring, the water is too rapid for poling a barge up the river. Let me know.
"Well, at least this cloud's gotta copper linin' I guess. I'd've said silver linin', but things just ain't lookin' that good yet. We'll take the draft horses and hopefully that Manfred fella don't take it inta his head ta go chargin' anything with that lance of his..."
"Maybe the boy's compensatin' fer somethin'..."
"What?"
"..."
"I'm just sayin' is all..." ;-)
Orlan
I'm loving these two dwarves. I'm thinking I could throw a lot at them and they'd throw it right back.
"Uh...uhmm...yeah, right..."
"..."
"..."
"Well, enough with the touchy-feely lovin' feelin's fer the dwarves. We don't need ta go all emo like those tree-huggin' elves, yuh know?"
"As for throwin' things back...yuh can bet on that. It's why I took muh Deadly Aim feat. And yuh can trust that anything I throw back is comin' doubly hard. So don't ferget ta duck!" ;-)
Orlan
btw: I didn't mind the orcbane...Hru hates orcs too!(as noted in his not yet input but thrilling backstory)
"Well then...I'm likin' this fella more and more, cousin! Maybe yuh ain't in such bad hands after all..."
"As fer Orcbane, I've decided ta give muh axe that name instead. Which means Klyndak and I still need ta come up with a clan name for ourselves. Are we ta be the Foehammers in honor of the game? Or is there somethin' more original we can agree ta?"
FabesMinis
Just realised that I gave my PC the same name as Manfred's player without even realising (just replacing the c with a k). Completely unintentional and bizarre. I wondered where the name had come from! Apologies if it weirded you out!
I can still change it if you like.

We're good to go I be thinking in our thread. We're well met and my plans are laid. The DM can bring on the morn and our travels at will.
"Same fer me and muh companions. In the interests of movin' the playtest along, we can fast forward ta the next day and our departure, if yuh'd like..."

Rellios ... we'll use Pathfinder fast advancement (p. 9) so second level will be 1300xp not 1000xp.
Has everyone
... calculated their Combat Maneuver Bonuses and marked them on their character sheets?
... included racial hit dice?
... included extra hit point if favoured class?
... included one Varisian bonus feat?
... rolled Perception checks and initiative checks as requested?

Absolutely. Though Sirap would object to being called a barman. If you are a local guide you would know his son-in-law Larjen quite well.

From the way it reads, I think Brad is right. They need to clarify this one, eh?
Shisumo, I don't have the rules in front of me... The way I read it the first time was that if the smite attack hit, then there was no resistance roll. This would be very helpful against undead that require too high of a traditional turning roll for clerics to affect (like boss undead), AND gives clerics a handy feat to take.

1) Whoops..corrected!
2) I hadn't done this - I will do so now. By my estimate, my CMB would be 2 = +0 Base Attack Bonus + 2 Strength + 0 Medium Size. Unless there's something special about dual-wield that would affect it.
3) Check!
4) Check!
5) Check!
6) 4 of each in our main thread

I hope no one objects to the jumping through the early character development role-playing. I love role-playing and have participated in more than one game where dinner conversation took two weeks of real-life time. For the playtest, however, I'm going to try to put you in interesting and unusual situations that familiarize us with the mechanics.

No problems here. There's still been ample roleplaying opportunity anyway...

It's just as easy to roleplay in combat as out. A dwarf is defined by what 'e does, not 'ow much 'e talks.

I really interested in following this one. We're running a not dissimilar rl experiment with our regular three player band. Or we will be when I've worked out a nifty story-friendly way of inserting some undead.
In a nutshell, I'm pulling out a single Level 2 adventure and getting my group to roll themselves Level 1 characters (28p build, level 2 gold because it's urban and they'll need it). I NPC up whatever base class they don't pick. We run it and find out from practical experience what works and what doesn't. 1st level Pathfinder looks pretty butch to me, so a mainly urban level 2 with minor tweakage should be OK.
This week hopefully if I can get my act together and we can all find the time. Will be the first time I've DMed since a disasterous and confidence cracking experience many years ago with a bunch of 18 year old hack n slayers. Still have nightmares about that one.

"Agreed," says Clareg, "A little less conversation, a little more action please. All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me. A little more bite and a little less bark. A little more fight and a little more spark."
"Shut up, Clareg, the bad guys will 'ear ya!" barks Dareg.
"That's the idea, ya knuckle'ead."

No problem, I thought it was a coincidence anyway.
