I know, form what I've seen, that it's fairly unlikely, but I'd love to see the Iconics in the finished version of Pathfinder RPG, first of all keep the WAR art, for the love of the twenty gods, keep it, because its so beautiful and flawless.
Secondly, and less likely I wouldn't mind seeing their backgrounds as examples as backstories for the individual classes and finally It'd be nice if you included their lv1 stats in the book too, to give new players an idea of how the class looks on paper and a ready to play chracter with a cool background and story.
I feel the addition of the backgrounds in particular would enhance the emphasis on storytelling that Pathfinder has, which is always a good thing.
That said, I understand that alot of people aren't as ravenously fond of the Iconics as I am, nor do Paizo want to make Pathfinder RPG setting specific as the Iconics are, a bit, but please keep the art, it instantly wins over anyone I've shown, and it was so good to see it in Alpha Release One.

Yes! *hums happily* Oh and the Iconics are the Wayne Reynolds drawn examples of classes in Golarion, their pictures and backstories are scattered throughout the blog, and their images are found on te covers of the first twelve pathfinders, though only ten covers have been released so far. Thier also prominent in most of the art that depicts a scene in Pathfinder.

We won't get into their backstories or anything
I don't know, it might be a good idea. Every class gets a sidebar about the iconic, to show off the class, give someone an example, make a bit advertising for Pathfinder, and act as a bit of a muse to get people into the right frame of mind to create roleplaying characters. This could be a help for people new to the game.

I, too, believe this should be a great idea. Not only it would help newcomers, but it will add flair to the Pathfinder RPG, and from what I've seen of Paizo so far, they're all about flair! :)

The iconics will be all over the Pathfinder RPG.
We won't get into their backstories or anything, but their names will probably appear and their images will be on almost every spread.
I dunno. It'd be nice to have the iconics stated out and have their fluff included at the end of either the book, or after the last chapter for character creation. It may eat some pages, but it would give new and inexperienced players some visual examples of how character creation adds up and characters looks on paper.
Just an idea.

While I support the use of the Iconics and other picture, and think that it's a good idea to use a lot of the great art pathfinder and gamer mastery modules have had, I prefer the core book for 3.5 revised gaming to be as setting independant as possible.

Why NOT get into their backstories? I've been reading them in the blog, and I think those little blocks of text could have a place in the finished product, especially since you're going to have an expressed setting rather than an implied one, it might be a good idea to get people thinking about how to integrate their characters into the world.

I dunno. It'd be nice to have the iconics stated out and ....
If you want to see the stats of the iconics, check out any of the pathfinder modules or AP books. All the early modules have Valeroes, Kyra, Seoni and Meriesel (yeah those are probably all misspelled) stated out as pregenerated characters at various levels. Some of the other iconics have started to appear in more recent products too.

But once PRPG is released, those will be wrong.

Only if you play the Pathfinder RPG. They'll still be correct for 3.5, which will, I suspect, still be the ruleset of choice for a certain subset of Pathfinder customer.
We'll very likely be providing Pathfinder RPG stats for the iconics in Pathfinder itself, starting with volume #25.

Maybe because of the available word count for the final book. Adding iconics' backstories and other unnecessary "fluff" would impact the amount of words available for the rules themselves.

That is one excellent reason, yes. :)
Another is, I think our current plan is to make the book as open (as in, OGC) as possible. The more world-specific stuff we put in, the more we have to clamp down on as IP. :\
Finally, world neutrality is our goal. :)

Besides, aside from a few new power choices that wouldn't be accurate, anyone could convert the existing Iconics to PRPG easily.
Having just done so, I can say that it is ludicrously easy to convert straight across. Almost everybody gets more than they had before, so it's just a question of tacking on a few things and choosing skills. With all the stats in front of you, takes maybe 5 minutes.

That totally ignores the point of providing the iconics as a learning tool for new players. Many game systems provide sample characters for that for that very reason. For players coming in from 3.5, it illustrates the difference between what they're used to and characters in 3.P. For players entirely new to the hobby, or simply new to the D20 system it provides an example of how the various points of character creation come together as a unified whole.

I could see providing one or possibly two character writeups for that purpose. Full stats and character background for 12 characters would be overkill, I'd say.

I hate you, Mr. Get-my-copy-of-classic-monster-revisited-before-me. Okay, maybe not. ;) Is it as good as we've all been expecting it to be?

I'm not a chronicles subscriber; I buy individual items from that line, though looking at the release schedule, maybe I should be. I'll have to hash that one out with the ol' spousal unit, though...

Ahh didn't even notice, guess that's the downside to not having loooong tags anymore. :)

You should broach the subject while giving her a shoulder massage. That +2 massage bonus sure comes in handy for me! :D

- "Pathfinders" Comic Book
Too expensive. They'd sooner do novels/short stories. They want to, just don't know when.
- Action Figures/Busts/Figurines
Have you seen the miniatures? They're awesome.
Now if they could get Kotobukiya to do vinyl statues of the Iconics... wow that would be awesome. My friend has all the DC Comics ones Kotobukiya has done, hehe I could just imagine the hottest of Seoni.

All the iconic girls in school-girl outfits? Hmmm... I think you're onto something... ;D

Not really. Get decent, up-and-comming artists and writers that known the medium and you're all set.

Lol.. not all of Kotobukiya statues are anime girls... they're doing star wars, dc comics, and a bunch of video game licenses... but you're right.. school girls Seoni and Mirisiel would be interesting. School girl Amiri with that sword would just be too cute.

Right and it's too expensive. So sayth Paizo.

Simple suggestion for iconics write-ups...
Make them a Web enhancement on the site. That way it brings someone picking up the Pathfinder books who's not familiar with Pathfinder to the site. It frees up the word count in the published books and it gives everyone the ability to see the backgrounds of the characters.
Erik,
Two suggestion for the Iconics:
- "Pathfinders" Comic Book
- Action Figures/Busts/Figurines
I don't think the action figures would fly well...
I think a short comic in the PRPG book would do wonders tho, 4 pages perhaps.

Except that the write ups were shorter and still are short in the Modules.
People like the Iconics and the backgrounds. So Paizo gave them MORE space. They know what most of us want. ;)

These will all be included in the Pathfinder wiki as well, so people can get all the info they want on them there.

The female gnome druid isn't in yet; Wayne's still painting her. And yes: we'll see her animal companion too (its a snow leopard).
There are no half-orcs scheduled at this time for iconic status; the 12th and final iconic will be a half-elf.
A snow leopard!!!! Thats gotta be the coolest animal companion there is!!! I guess the Second Darkness AP is set near Riddleport?? More northernly, more altitude..more snow leopard..actually Varisia is pretty mountainous as it is, i guess a snow leopard could come from anywhere
