Well, sorry if my introduction to the party is going a bit too argumentive. I just couldn't think of a way into the group that wouldn't make half of you distrust me, one of you want to arrest me, and cause the last of you to mime furiously at me.
No worries mate. Thorn can be the very picture of charm when he chooses to be ... he just rarely does. Especially not when he suspects people are trying to kill him, his boss may be in on it, he's semi-possessed by a dead, greedy dwarven queen, he's just picked up a large bag-load of loot from a dead proxy of the dead Prince of Demons, and said proxy has turned out to be not so dead after all ... he's understandably jumpy.
If Swire really is a Taker, that might make things a little easier with Thorn (well ... maybe). He still won't trust him, but at least he'll sort of understand his motivations.

I do have a bit of an issue here though; I’m not opposed to Davi / Mr Swire joining the group, but there’s no way Thorn wants this guy sniffing about before he’s had a chance to work out the value of the loot, sell stuff, take his share etc.
Any ideas from the group on how to handle this? I’m thinking that, at best, we’d say “ok, well if you think you can help us, meet us back here tomorrow” and then get on with our business, but that potentially leaves Davi out of the game for a few more days (or weeks) of real time.
James Keegan
I've hammered out an idea to introduce Bryan's character, rope Mr. Swire in and get the party moving to the next step. A little heavy-handed, perhaps, but, well, it's what I've got.
Whether you trust each other is up to you, of course.
And, anyways, didn't you guys know that humans are considered lucky on the Planes?

LOL, the hazards of being a knight of the post. O.L.L.I is a bit pedantic, but he's a good healbot.

The Plot Hammer has been deployed and crushes all within its path! Behold it's inelegance and brute efficiency! Many a railroad has been built from proper use of the Plot Hammer.
I'll try to get things moving as fast as I can so we can get Swire and the Scribe in and the adventure moving along. Since we don't hear much from Rennet and Reghar lately, I'm guessing they'll agree to anything and everything that the bariaur and the modron propose.

Speaking of which; James and co, how do you want to handle loot. First to James, if we’re getting stuff appraised, detected for magic and possibly sold, do you want to handle it in character or OOC in the discussion thread?
Secondly, to the group, how do you want to handle loot distribution; fair warning first of all – Thorn has no intention of being fair. He’s got most of the loot, including some that he assumes the group doesn’t know about. There’s just enough of his good nature left that he thinks everyone deserves something for their efforts – but he’s also very greedy and has a (semi?) legitimate purpose in collecting taxes that Enoch owed. Thus he’ll argue that any really valuable items (or information, or things that he takes a liking to) should remain in his possession…
Now, that’s hardly fair from a typical loot distribution point of view, so I’m willing to hash it out either in or out of character if needs be. Be warned though, Thorn is as stubborn as an old goat. He might be slightly less greedy when he’s not under Aym’s influence though.
Ideally, before ‘tomorrow’ game time, Thorn wants to deal with loot distribution (including selling stuff for cash), check in at his kip for the message from Star, possibly (but maybe not) confront Ambereye, and maybe undertake another binding ceremony.
Also James, how are we handling XP and progression for this game?
Patrick Curtin
O.L.L.I is at the other end of the spectrum. Riches literally have no meaning for him. He will be happy to assist Thorn in his Taker mission, since that is fufilling a lawful purpose. O.L.L.I will take any money offered, just because he understands the handiness of having cash on hand for bribes and equipment upgrades, but he has little need for jink.
O.L.L.I will most likely need to check in at the library to talk to Shactal about the events of the evening.
James Keegan
1. I don't think it's super fun to role-play out the whole thing, especially since you two are the only ones around in the original group that are posting regularly. So, appraisal, selling and distribution I would prefer to handle ooc in here.
2. I'll tabulate and bring you up to speed on xp soon; I need to sit down and figure what you earned in the Eel. I'll post it here.
Warden of Doors
For your experiences in the Stygian Eel, you have received 1,350 experience points. Fast progression; new characters coming in will have 4,650 XP because I want everyone to level up together.
Loot: I guess list what you're checking out and I'll either ask for a Diplomacy (Gather Info) check to move it (illicit goods, for instance) or an Appraise check, etc.
Distribution: Reghar needs 1000 gold or its equivalent for his boss; not sure what Radavel's up to or if Reghar will do some disappearing or what. Rennet requires little; what he's looking for wasn't there. He will likely want at least a little money to defray the cost of healing items and such.

This is the loot that Thorn lays down for discussion. He’ll suggest that (if possible) O.L.L.I. cast detect magic on the pile:
Bag of 200gp (divide amongst the four party members)
Jade Monkey (sell and divide cash?)
Foot Long Length of Darkwood carved into the shape of a claw (wand? Identify? Hold off for now?)
Bandoleer with four dagger sheaths and 4 masterwork daggers with leaf shaped blades and skull pommels (anyone want them? Otherwise, sell and divide the cash unless magical)
Metal flask with peppermint smelling liquid (identify?)
Demogorgan statuette (sell and divide cash?)
A “handful” of platinum coins (divide amongst the party)
A gold necklace of linked serpents (sell and divide?)
A silver ring set with an onyx (if not magical, sell and divide?)
Two black pearls (if not magical, sell and divide?)
A padded cloth pouch (?)
Thorn will also attempt to sell and divide the proceeds of the City of Whores book, but he doesn’t mention it just now in case O.L.L.I. gets antsy.
Anyone else got any loot up for grabs?
James:

Bag of 200gp (divide amongst the four party members)
Jade Monkey (sell and divide cash?)- 20 gp
Foot Long Length of Darkwood carved into the shape of a claw (wand? Identify? Hold off for now?)- Detects as magical; requires identify or appraise from a trained person to determine properties.
Bandoleer with four dagger sheaths and 4 masterwork daggers with leaf shaped blades and skull pommels (anyone want them? Otherwise, sell and divide the cash unless magical)- nonmagical daggers: one is silver, one is cold iron, two are steel.
Metal flask with peppermint smelling liquid (identify?)- Is magical; appraise check or identify to see how magical.
Demogorgan statuette (sell and divide cash?)- 400 gp; a large amount of Demogorgon idols have flooded the marketplace, so the value has gone down from what it would usually be.
A “handful” of platinum coins (divide amongst the party) 15 pp
A gold necklace of linked serpents (sell and divide?) 50 gp
A silver ring set with an onyx (if not magical, sell and divide?)25 gp
Two black pearls (if not magical, sell and divide?) faint magical aura; worth maybe 100 gp one way or another
A padded cloth pouch (?) A fine pouch, but nothing special. Could keep a potion flask or other item from shattering.
Thorn will also attempt to sell and divide the proceeds of the City of Whores book (though banned, it isn't in very high demand: 15 gp to a casual collector of political smut), but he doesn’t mention it just now in case O.L.L.I. gets antsy.

It doesn’t look like any of us have Appraise as a trained skill, so we might need to hold off on the magical items for now … maybe we’ll end up with a wizard type in the party at some point ;-)
James, any of that stuff in the main list (not counting the book or Thorn’s personal stash) count as illicit? If no-one objects, I suggest we sell the jade monkey, demogorgan statue, gold necklace, silver ring. Hold off on the rest till we know what the magic stuff is. The special material daggers might come in handy, and I wonder if the pearls might be pearls of power of something like that? Can we move it tonight, or should we wait till later in the game?

Strictly speaking, it's all illicit; you had neither a search warrant nor anything beyond personal reasons for entering Enoch's place of residence and certainly not for taking his personal possessions. Thorn may be able to make a claim as a balance to an outstanding debt, but not if he distributes and pockets it.
However, money has no provenance in Sigil. So things like a sculpture, jewelry, etc. wouldn't raise any alarms even if it's technically hot.
James Keegan
Anything you want to have identified and moved tonight, you can. The night markets don't ask too many questions about what something is or where it comes from; you aren't too likely to get a great deal, though. Or you can wait until the morning and go to the Grand Bazaar.
James Keegan
Okay, I tried writing updates, but the board ate my post so I find that reason enough to call it a night and go to bed. Updates tomorrow or Saturday; if Mr. Swire, the Gray Scribe or Reghar want to do something this evening, let me know.
Comments, questions and criticisms welcome, of course.

Well, that's a shame.
On another note, this game may have the most well-written Knowledge checks I've read. They're just appropriate to how the character's think, if that make's sense. Other than that, I have no comments on the game other than it is well written, with good characters. *Thus endeth the bootlicking*
Lastly, has Ravadel officially left this game yet? If not, I'm in a few other pbps with him, so I could just go over to one of them and see if he just forgot about the game.

Davi and Bryan, sorry this stuff is taking a while. I think Thorn is ready to get on with things, unless James threw me a curve ball in the post that wasn’t.
So, Thorn, O.L.L.I. and Reghar each get 5pp, 231gp (and 6sp and 6cp) from the division of treasure so far. Rennet gets the daggers. We’ll re-look at the magic stuff once it’s all identified.

O.L.L.I will give his share of the loot to Thorn so as to facilitate Thorn completing his mission of tax collection.

Not a problem. I'm here and ready to go whenever you get there!

Hey James, just wanted to say that I'm still really enjoying the game, the setting and my character. Can't wait to see where this is all leading.
Ditto. Loved the scene on the Library roof. You have some great writing chops to go with your gift for illustration.
James Keegan
Praise! Attention! I feed on it like a starved dog!
....ahem...
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. Trying to recover from my all too frequent dry spells and bits of neglect. I think ultimately it was the Eel that dried me up; more variety is good and it kind of dragged way too long. More short, punchy fights are good. More barmy NPCs.

I'm gonna be moving this weekend so I can be (permanently this time) close to work. I don't really think it will effect posting too much since you guys are running the show at the moment and I shouldn't be completely out of touch until Monday, if that. But if I'm not around much in the next few days, that's why.
James Keegan
The move went pretty smoothly and I'm sort of settled. Craig's List roommates, so I don't really know the other three people I live with too well and they've kind of already got one strike against them (bathroom disaster that wasn't my fault but I had to clean it up anyways because I needed the shower first). But it's mostly good so far.

That's the thing I couldn't really handle in my brief experiences in a share house, shared bathrooms. Erk.

I'd have to agree, but my only real experience with that was back in college the year I stayed at my fraternity house. It was fun, but to have to use the shower the day after a party ... ugh.
mwbeeler
Glad the move went well, sounds like you have always liked NY better anyhow. I'm plodding my way through the spoilers (think I'm about halfway through page 17 now), feel free to do whatever needs to be done until I can catch up. Have to bathe and do something about that spicy chiken sandwich I just ate, then try to get a few hours of sleep.
James Keegan
Thanks. I like Connecticut but all my friends except my best friend live in NY now and it's much easier to get to work. And it's not my parents' basement. And my best friend is going to move to New Mexico and then South Texas for a border patrol job relatively soon, anyway. It was time to leave and get that 4 hours a day spent commuting to work back.
And I'm going to try and be a little lighter on the spoilers in the future. It looks like the CIA had redacted half the campaign thread or something.

What's Kindle?
The Amazon Kindle is a system for reading e-books. (For an idea of what that means, just follow the link). Also, due to its cellular web access, it can be used similarly to a certain galactic guide.
Honestly, xkcd is the only reason I even heard of Kindle.

Cool deal, seriously sucks having to even ask. Suzuki notified me last night they have my forms for the rebate check, so I'm halfway there. Been a crazy start to the year, haven't even touched our business yet, got like $800 worth of product sitting next to me, grrr.
