I'm liking the way everyone is getting off their quips now.
Personally, when a big beasty is blind, and so relying on smell and hearing, I like to keep quiet.... :)
At least it's going to be going after the others first, maybe I will get an AAO as it passes by?
<wishes Colvare's Move silently was higher> Maybe not!

I have a ruling question for you Aubs. Probably won't be needed, but if I were to get up onto the gallery and wanted to grab halflings and toss them over the rail, what rolls would I need to succeed at? I assume the touch attack and opposed grapple check, but what about for the throw? I have no idea if this is something I'll actually try, but I'm curious to know how you'd adjudicate. My thought was a straight Str check based on the weight of the missile once I'd grappled (or possibly pinned if you wanted to make it harder). And would that have to be two separate rounds for two standard actions?
EDIT: And am I correct that I wouldn't provoke an AoO from the xbow bearers unless they too have unarmed strike?

Meh. Could work to our advantage. It would just be drawing the beast to the party beef anyway, since Urthona and I are so close together. Besides, I'm going for a Lambeau Leap if I can.

As they have crossbows, they simply don't get AoOs as they are wielding missile weapons. If they drop them, of course, it is different. However, unless you have Improved Grapple, you will provoke an AoO if you try to grapple and they have a melee weapon. At least, in the complicated world of grappling in D&D, that is how I would rule. To heft them over the side, I would say you needed to win an opposed Grapple check by 5 or more (once you have hold) and the sling them. They are halflings, and not very heavy, so this should not present too many problems. You probably can't really throw them very far though - maybe 5' for each multiple of 5 by which you beat them in the grapple check. I would expect that to be completed in a single round.

Just a heads up guys, I'm going to be in the wilds of the lakelands over the weekend, so probably won't post from early Friday morning until late on Monday.
Colvare's plan of action at the moment, is to move as far from the minatour as possible, as quietly as possible, whilst hitting it with magic missles until he runs out of spells.
If by some miracle it goes doen and more combatants appear in the arena, burning hands may be more apropriate.
I'll still be posting all day today though...

Singe away, good sir, though don't forget to cast defensively!
Unfortunately, I still have to wait for Mirra, Damn these computers and their Psudo-random number generators giving me low rolls....
:)

Thanks, good thought. I've never played with APs before.
My demented/malformed avatar has action point rules in the profile, if you need a quick reference.

I'm thinking creepy Shadow McStabberton is Harmal. And, I'm pretty sure, by just randomly attacking him, we've screwed the pooch. I'm gonna try, though. Maybe he'll listen... or maybe he's not who we're looking for...
McStabberton could be covering Harmal's track so we can't find him, but either way he will is or lead us to Harmal.

Just a quick note, I'm going to have connection problems over the next few days, and possibly weeks etc as well.
I effectivly have no connectivity at home, and start a new job on Monday, so posting from work could be anything from career suicide, to down right impossible. :)
I won't be available from now until Friday morning (UK time) so Aubrey, could you DMPC Colvare please?
Sorry again, and I'll keep you as updated as I can. Should be able to replace the comp in the near future and then be back to normal....

![]() |

OK, thanks for letting me know. I will try to keep him safe from harm.
lol, thanks! I should be ok to post all weekend Aubrey...
Sorry for the delay. I've been terribly ill since Wednesday and haven't been to work at all. Mostly in bed with a fever and all that. I'm still home sick, but I'm functional now.
Get well soon fatey.

Ok, this is where my posting may get really flakey. Please don't let me hold anything up, I'll post as often as I can over the coming days, weeks, but if you need to make decisions for Colvare, go for it.
Sorry for the disruption.

yes. I am a lean, mean, dying machine. But I did roll well for hp so hopefully I can lose this glass jaw. I gotta do something to remedy my low AC or I'm going to keep on getting hit. Fight defensively more often or something. Truthfully, this is the first Monk I've played since 1st ed (though I've dm'd for a few). Behind the wheel, the character feels the same. Vulnerable.
Anybody know Mage Armor? Buffed maybe I would stand a better chance in a toe-to-toe fight with something like Gaz. Probably not.

If you wanna put the cash up for a wand of mage armor, I've got Use Magic Device maxed out and could dose you up as needed. That'll save the sorcerer some spell slots. Each charge would only last an hour (unless you went out of your way to buy a higher caster level wand), but it's something.

I could also use a wand in this fashion, without the UMD check :). More seriously Mage Armour is likley to be my next 1st level spell, since there are no more fire based ones to get.....I i really like item creation feats....

If Benedetto is nearby, he can also use the granted power of the Guardian mantle, and take your damage himself.
Oh, as an aside, at 2nd level Benedetto's irises lost their color. He used to have brown eyes. Now they're slate gray.
What book is this class you're playing in? It sounds interesting.

![]() |

Benedetto's inbred little village back home is like the "Innsmouth" of the Shadow Marches. Except that, instead of deep ones, a percentage of the population become "flayerspawn".
That's where Benedetto's psychic powers come from. He's eventually going to manifest more and more mind-flayer qualities. ( Some of these will be "illithid heritage" feats. Some, like they eyes, will just be flavor.)
That's his major impetus for adventuring: to get far enough away from the Lawful Good guys who know what warning signs to look for and who'd come after him.
All of which means that, yes, eventually y'all will be adventuring with a hillbilly mindflayer.

Cool....will he go through a phase as an Ood?
In other news, who wants to do the money/treasure book-keeping, and how do we split 200pp and 500gp between <counts...> seven?

An Ood? Visually, not really. He'll always have hair. He'll always have normal, human-sized eyes. He won't be carrying his brain outside his body. (Other people's brains, perhaps.)
In character:
"Well, back in the Shadow Marches, we'd add up: magic weapon (1000 gp resale), magic weapon (1000 gp resale), box (which I'm guessin' to be around 25 gp resale) and coin (2500 gp value), to get a total of 4525. If we were gonna divvy that up 'mongst seven people, it'd come to somethin' like 650 gold apiece. But we can't split up the magic items like that, so's the fairest thing we can do is:
magic weapon + 40 gold
magic weapon + 40 gold
empty box + 475 gold
four shares of 500 gold apiece.
"Does that reckoning square with you folks?"

Other people's brains will also be inside your body - specifically, your stomach.

Ok, let's see.
2525gp (after selling the box)
Magic dagger (resale 1151gp, assuming +1 and 50%)
Magic hand crossbow (resale 1175gp, likewise)
_____
Total: 4851gp, 1/7=693gp
Mirra wants the crossbow -- I think we're all fine with that being her share.
Nobody has spoken up as particularly wanting the dagger, though as far as I know, any of us but Shagraat could use it.
So assuming selling dagger,
______
Total: 3676gp, 1/6=613gp for the rest of us.
There's been a suggestion of pooling money for a wand of Mage Armor, which is primarily helpful for Shagraat and Colvare, though without Andrei there's good reason for all of us to keep Shagraat upright as long as possible in a fight.
There has also been a suggestion of pooling money for a wand of either Cure Light Wounds (good in a fight) or Lesser Vigor (excellent between fights). Hamathin sees that as helpful for everyone.
If we buy both wands fully charged:
______
Total: 2176gp, 1/6=363gp for all but Mirra
If we also keep the dagger as party treasure, on the principal the more magic weapons available the better (but not charge it against the sap who's nominated to carry it "just in case"):
______
Total: 1025gp, 1/6=171gp for all but Mirra
Personally, I'm in favor of buying the wands -- to me, a cure wand is a no-brainer, and, since Andrei's gone, we need Shagraat to stay standing as long as possible. The next loot won't really have this issue, as the wands should both last a good long time.
I'm also inclined to sell the dagger if nobody will use it as a main weapon. 363gp each is a pretty good haul at this stage of our careers.
Even better if we can find partially charged wands for now.
Opinions?

Agreed!
I can't cast identify, so unless someone else can....
