Although the dagger is Masterwork, it is not really Yrar's style. So he would have declined the weapon. Probably with a smirk while mentioning something about using it to gut fish.

To add on to my earlier post. Just caught up on the game thread.

Nicely done. We have lots of hooks now. Well played. Well Played, indeed!

I have no problems, namor +anakin is turning out surprisingly mellow, but i think thats more the setting at the moment.

Heh, Thanks Mr. Wolfie,

Hopefully he'll get better as I warm up to writing him. Most of my recent practice has been 'crazy mages', not 'debonair swashbuckler'.
Hrm, time to dust off my '3 Musketeers', 'Man in the Iron Mask' etc. movie collection.

Per the supplies thing, people don't realize that what only takes 5 seconds at a table to say "I go back and get them", turns into a 5 paragraph post to write what you wanna do, and edit in copies of what you already said you did! I think it was fine. It got covered. No harm, No foul.

Per the game, very interesting so far. A little spooky monster, a little cursed dig/ monster murder, a little pirate interest mystery. Off to a good start I'd say.

I like the fact that no one has SEEN the beast yet. it not only builds tension, but admit it, no matter HOW well you keep 'player knowledge' separate, it's hard not to say, "Oh it's only a (insert monster lvl 2 name here), use (insert trick #1 here) and we can take it in 2 rounds."

My major concern with lack of shows is Sully himself, I just met him, (sort of), but he's already had ONE major depressing event, I hope nothing else happened.

Character wise, we have all the basics covered, if in unusual ways. (Brute force, healing, nature support spells/att options, and magic firepower in a level or two.) I guess it basically boils down to whether YOU think we need one (or 2) more, or re-adjust your planned encounters. Sneak skills would be nice, but watching a bunch of us not sneaky-types trying to BE sneaky could be pretty entertaining too,... for you at least,... :P

Either way, keep up the good work and I'm good!

Roman if you want the dagger drop a post here to let me know.

The Exchange

One attempt at this already eaten, here we go again.

There are spoilers attached to an Intelligence check. It may seem obvious but just to be clear, if you pass DC20 then you can look at all the spoilers of a DC equal or lower than that.

The "Lost" start is purely coincidental but very true. I was aiming for fantastical Sinbad - anyway the monsters will tend to reflect that which means that many will not be exactly as per the Monster Manual.

I like the mellow Roman, he seems otherworldly and that means the undersea racial calmness comes across for me.

Yep, someone tell me who is carrying the dagger.

As for Shulim I'll let him tag along for a while, I don't intend to slot him out of hand. We will see how the rest of you get on with the adventures and I will tailor it to suit the party size. Let's give it a couple of months and see how you do. The consistent roleplay is good for me.

I didn't expect such positive comments about the game, perhaps because we have lost two out of the six players (not something I am used to).

Anyway I'll be back online in about 7 hours.

Cheers

Spoiler:
Hi Andy,

Let me start by saying that I have really come to enjoy the friendship that we have formed over the past months while gaming on this forum. That said, I feel the need to mention that my work life will become very busy in about a month. Last night I was in a meeting with the company big-wigs. They seem to think that I have been doing a pretty good job and now want me to start the process of opening up a new clinic to further increase our services. This will start in about a month, and then my life will get hectic for probably about six months. That said, I really do not want to drop out. I really am enjoying developing Yrar, and I am really interested to see where this story takes us. In a month though, I cannot guarantee daily posting. I feel that this would not be fair to you, the players, or the game. Again, I do not want to drop out, but I also want to be fair. Since you have the opportunity to start recruiting, if you feel the need, I wanted to mention this now. Your thoughts are appreciated, and if you want to work Yrar out of the game within the next month or so, I will understand. Thanks again and sorry for any inconvenience, Jerry.

Fazaam,
My RSS feed shows you posted IC which I can read in my RSS client. Yet the post is not on the IC thread. Did you delete it after it was posted? If it got eaten let me know and I will post it in a spoiler here for you to try again.

Oh and I am waiting for Yrar to chime in on what should be done. Just as Roman said I feel in a group we *should* be fine heading up to the dig site. However the need to protect my cousin is .. getting ... stronger ....

Many times, at least this is how I understand it, posts end up on a different server and sometimes get 'lost' for a period of time but then eventually show up. I am also unable to see his post.

Yrar will post in a few hours. I have had a busy two days at work. I have to leave the office to do some travel errands but should be back by 5 or 6 EST. Hopefully, I still have a mind to put together a coherent post. Sorry for any inconvience. RL is striking hard this week.

What with the server issues and the fact that it is Friday evening here I am going to take my time responding "in game". Plus there is a fair amount going on and I don't want to make any mistakes.

Have a great weekend and enjoy some RL gentlemen.

Cheers

P.S. RL does stand for Relaxing Love, doesn't it?

I'm showing my last post on the IC thread.
It basically agreed that we should be safe if we stick together. And Fazaam stated that he is basically a "go for it" type of guy.

Well done! you must be so chuffed (pleased) that all that work is paying off. Great news. I knew that you going in early Thursday morning must be for a reason.

I have noticed spoilers on the Mothman and Dreamweaver's games so my guess is you are seriously pulling in the horns. It's all in a good cause.

Look as far as this game is concerned, I will look for another player, but the Yrar will not go anywhere. I have kind of worked out what will happen with Shulim. Yrar is a different matter. I think we should keep him in the game. You post when you can and I'll cover anything else, if necessary.

If and when you have to drop out of the whole thing then that's no problem to phase him away. But I'd rather wait and see how the six months work out.

One thing I never mentioned until now is I believe you should just stop the Erian's Glen. We aren't getting it done quick enough this battle. And it's horrible to see it dying slowly. Obviously, mate, I will keep supporting the game if you decide to continue it, but a month before you get busy is only about two to three rounds tops.

Cheers and well done

Just so you all know, I have mapped out the next few adventures and I've decided to try and recruit another player (or two).

Feel free to point anyone decent in our direction in the Gamer Connection. By decent I mean willing to communicate regularly and before he may need to drop for a few days or longer. By decent I mean someone who will add to the group.

Thanks for the feedback by the way, I am enjoying this game far more than I expected. And that is down to you guys.

Spoiler:
Thank you so much. Yeah, I have been working hard for awhile. A typical day for me starts at 2:30 am, and I am sometimes in the office past 6 pm. I will be dropping Mothman's game at the end of this story arc. Mothman is an excellent DM, but I am not connecting with Kajetan enough to stay in the game when I know I have to give up a few. Also, at the end of the story arc for Stormreach, I will be retiring Beren. He is a cool character, and I have had a lot of fun with him. He is developed enough though. Now for Dreamweaver's game, I want to stay in. Scardd is very interesting to me, and I want to find out what his story is. I have informed DW of my interest to stay but also my potential future lack of posting and asked for his thoughts. I just want to be fair to everybody.

Thank you for working with Yrar and me. I really like this character, and I do not want to give up on him. Plus, this adventure is very intriguing, and I truly value our friendship. I will make a point to put forth every effort to post on a daily basis.

In regard in Erian's Glen, you are absolutely right. I sort of made a point to myself not to NPC post for anybody besides Ava & Erian, who went missing before the announcement. Since Dinpel has not posted, I will probably put in a post later today officially ending the beast.

Later on today, I will post for Yrar. Sorry again, this week has been rough.

By letting everyone know, it should relieve the pressure on Yrar to post.

As to the rest of what you said, you've done well. Someone once told me to buy a bottle of Scotch whisky and whenever you need to pat yourself on the back then have a drink and make yourself feel good. He didn't mean to become an alcoholic (my current bottle is 1/3 full and was bought for me back in July last year) but occasionally it is good to congratulate yourself on a job well done.

From PsionicFox
On the subject of characters, I have an idea for a Halfling Rogue/Monk, using the Halfling Racial substitutions for those classes (Found in Races of the Wild), along with the Ascetic Rogue feat from Complete Adventurer. The concept is that he comes from a family troupe of acrobats (that's why he's very mobile). At the moment, I'm not sure if I should take a level of Monk first, or a level of Rogue. Either way, second level will be taken in the alternate class, I should think. At third level, I would take the Ascetic Rogue feat, allowing me to continue multiclassing between Rogue and Monk.

Does that sound alright to you?

EDIT: Here's a slightly more detailed concept.
Name: Saeed Al'Kurush.
Concept: Saeed's family are a troupe of halfling entertainers, they sail from port to port, holding performances on their ship, the decadent Spray Dancer. They hold nightly performances for several days in each port, including a final performance, totally free (For the poor masses). They bribe the Wharfmasters in every port, as they also have a habit of appropriating and smuggling goods from place to pace for a tidy profit - everything from food to silks to gold to people, most of the common good of the isles have been secretly ferried aboard the Dancer at one time or another.
--------------------

How's that?

PsionicFox - when I started out I asked people to stick to Core stuff but I have just built a generic warrior because a new player here showed me what generics could do, so go for it.

Please run everything by me first like you just did above.

I have two questions, one which you will need to build into your PC.

Would you consider taking over the gnome rogue Shulim in the party? It would simplify matters but I don't mind either way. Shulim's original details actually appear on the first page of this thread, but he hasn't done anything yet (apart from nearly die) so he is pretty much a blank sheet except for his first name and race.

Secondly whatever you decide to do, the background is fine. BUT the party are on a small volcanic island, Shelitan, looking to meet up with a gnome sorcerer explorer/archeaologist. How does your guy get to join the party? I'll help you along the way if needed.

Over to you and Happy Australia Day.

Cheers

No problem. Thanks for letting me run this concept. By DM suggestion, should I go first for rogue, or for monk?

It wouldn't really let me build my class build the way I want him, seeing as the gnome doesn't get those abilities, but I could always run some kind of Gnome Rogue/Bard (another concept I'd like to try). What about a Gnome Beguiler? It gives him the Rogue abilities you need, whilst adding in some magical utility.

Actually, yeah, provided Beguiler (PHB II) is cool by you, I'll play Shulim, the Gnome Beguiler.

I take it Shulim doesn't have much of a background? If that's the case, the entertainer angle still works, but he's already with the party. How did he join up?

Anyway, I'll get the profile and a picture up in a sec.

Cheers.

The Exchange

I love the beguiler class.

You have made my day. It's an excellent choice.

Shulim arrived on a boat with the rest of the original party (his player disappeared into the ether). He quietly tagged along until the party met a wild boar. He was "criticalled" for 17 points of damage and is now healed on 1 hit point. The gnome favoured soul healed him at -9, taking the risk of an attack of opportunity in the process.

If you get a chance to read the thread, it explains the first few encounters in more detail.

As for a background, whatever it was before doesn't matter once you take over.

Cheers

Male Human Wizard 1

Awesome.

And here he is.

Shulim the Beguiler lives!

First off, I would like to welcome the new additions to our group: PsionicFox and Thereal Thom. Welcome aboard! I look forward to gaming with you.

On a more serious note, I have been discussing with French Wolf my potential lack of posting in the near future. In about a month, I will be working on a project that will take about six months of my time. This just recently developed, and I was unaware of the situation at the start of the game. I am going to make every effort to still post daily, but on some days, this will not be the case. I have offered to work Yrar out of the game within the next month in a seamless manner but also made mention that I really do not want to leave. I am really enjoying this game and developing Yrar. French Wolf is being very kind and said he would work with me, hopefully, you my fellow players, will feel the same.

To be fair, I want to mention this to all of you. So if Yrar is missing for a few days, he is still with you in spirit.

Thanks for your understanding.

Extra Special Thanks to French Wolf

Utak

The Exchange

No problem but I doubt that anyone else will roll three possible criticals per fight.

So for everyone's sake, Roman, Fudrick and Fazaam are going along as is for now. Yrar may be NPC'ed if necessary but we will see.

PsionicFox has agreed to take over Shulim - EvilGenius' original PC with some changes to become a beguiler.

Thereal Thom has an open field, but hopefully he will take over Sully's original PC, Garyn Avery who is currently running around in the jungle, very afraid.

I think that should do it for now.

PsionicFox the sooner you are happy, the sooner you can take over your guy.

Thereal the same applies to you. In your case I'll probably have you join the party in the next few days, finished or not. That would fit what is going on. That is if you decide to go with Garyn. If you do, your background is kind of fixed. Obviously you could play someone else, then Garyn is fair game for the monsters.

Any questions please ask.

Cheers

French Wolf, I am staggered by the amount of background material you've developed. Incredible. I'd be happy to pick up Garyn. Let me look through the threads for him again to get a feel for the origninal concept.

Thereal, I appreciate that. Perhaps you could slightly alter his name to make it more Arabian (you have to change the alias anyway).

Thereal Spoiler

Spoiler:
The information below is to get you into the campaign. It may require a slight tweaking of your recent background, but nothing major.

Fazaam and Garyn joined the Sea Harem under the Sea witch Zerea. This was largely forced on you by her mother, the legendary Sea Hag Venimati. Zerea holds Garyn's sister hostage on the Sea Harem and has made you both an offer you cannot refuse. Fazaam is in love with your sister.
Since then Zerea has attempted to push the bounds of your willingness to work, almost as much for sport. She actively supported Fazaam's takeover of the monkey, Hasan, from its owner Dursir, knowing that you had made a lifelong enemy of the barbaric warrior.

Now the Sea Harem and its crew wait off the coast of the island of Shelitan. You, Fazaam and the bullying Yoraal were sent two days ago to watch and spy on a gnome sorcerer on the island, and then report back. Zerea ordered Yoraal to make sure he returned within a week or she would begin hurting Garyn's sister, Temusa. Cold and chilling was the woman's laughter as you rowed to the island.

It took the rest of the day to find a trail through the jungle to the camp. Then the three of you watched and waited. Listening in that evening it seemed that the gnome, Zartari, and his men were working up a single trail to the volcano. In a place called the Chamber of Urns.

Next morning they travelled up the trail and into an excavated entrance. None of you entered but Yoraal decided to wait back at the camp and listen in again that night.

That night, Zartari and one of his servants, Mokarin, argued in his wooden hut over a silver urn and whether it should be opened. Mokarin eventually lost the argument when Zatari shouted "It is surely a tool of the hag, I am Badasah and I am in charge. We leave it stoppered until Bidikah."

This following morning, you three were surprised by the sudden departure of the gnome and his men up the volcano. Not sure why. The tall grass and early start meant you couldn't really get ready in time to hear or see what had happened.

Four or more hours later a group of the servants came running down to the camp. The two in front carried another man and were screaming madly when they hurriedly grabbed stuff in the camp. They left the other in Zartari's hut. All Yoraal would say he saw, for it was his turn to watch and listen was that they were attacked by an "evil one". One man fled with a silvered dagger after slashing the Evil One and the other was dragged into the jungle.

You all heard the screams cut off.

Yoraal sat nervously sucking and biting his thumb mulling over what he had seen, but he wouldn't tell you two. Then he decided that you should leave and try to reach the rowing boat and the Sea Harem before dark.

Thirty minutes of journeying later Yoraal stepped into the jungle to relieve himself and something evil screamed and fought with him. Fazaam and you fled in a moment of terror which turned into sheer panic when you realised that the monster was following. Reaching tall grass, Fazaam instinctively headed for the camp while you disappeared back into the jungle and up towards the volcano.

A cat and mouse game ensued.

Cheers and thanks for the positive comments on the setting, we aim to please.

Most games start with a gentle tavern chat and then a walk into adventure. Shulim's start is going to be a touch different. Ha Ha Ha.

Shulim Spoiler

Spoiler:
A fight is just about to kick off in the camp. Shulim has just taken a poisonous dart in the neck, meaning he is on 0 hit points. Oh and you can probably add a masterwork dagger plus red gem encrusted scabbard to your character sheet (value 302g dagger plus 100gp scabbard).
Note that you just opened a box nearby but didn't look inside. It had something that rolled around in it.

Jump in as soon as you want, with your current number of hit points I think staying alive is the main issue.

Cheers

Hi, everyone. Forgot to say I'm very happy to be joining up. Hope I can keep up with the level of play here.

FW : New name -- Ghari ibn Ayyadi ??

Below are the choices I gave the PC's, why not roll some dice and try your luck?

32 point buy or roll 4d6 (keep total of three) 7 times and assign six to the PC.

For your information the point buy system is 8=0, 9=1, 10=2,11=3, 12=4, 13=5, 14=6, 15=8, 16=10, 17=13, 18=16.

It happens. At least with the dolphins, I was surrounded by water.

Also, why is it when guys see another guy get nailed down there they kind of clench up and grit their teeth. Reading about those dolphins you encountered did that. Usually watching those funny video shows on tv and the dad/brother gets it does the same thing. Maybe it's because we all know what that feels like and sympathize with them.

Every DM is different and you may want to read between the lines a little with me.I know most of the rules but that doesn't mean the PC's have to stick to them. If you come up with a crazy idea that you think may work then go for it.

TPK's come when players only look inside the box and at the character sheet.

I like to give little hints along the way.

i.e. there is magical healing in camp

i.e. there are ways of reducing the effectiveness of the burning beast in the camp, in fact I believe you brought them with you.

Perhaps a touch on the low side. I am happy for you to roll the set again, if you want.

I hope to see two stats minimum of 14 or higher please.

I'm happy with the scores as listed; 17 dex, 14 Int and the rest very playable.

Oh, scimitars v. short sword. For flavor I'd like to go with the scimitar, but can't find stats on the SRD. EDIT: Nevermind found one in TheOcho's gear. Pricey.

Table talk on the current combat has just been too funny.

i.e. there are ways of reducing the effectiveness of the burning beast in the camp, in fact I believe you brought them with you.

Well Shulim and Fazaam are next I believe. As far as healing in camp I know I didn't do much searching. Something in the tents maybe? Hmm, "brought them with you"... Supplies from the ship? Christmas gifts? I wonder if we will figure this out before it gets to out of hand. :)

Anyone smell Orc cooking around here?
