DM Wicht |
The -2 to AC only lasts until the start of your next turn. As you took a turn in the surprise round and then began a new turn in the first round, your AC should have gone back up to 15 at the beginning of your turn in round 1
The goblin scoots back, away from the blow, chattering angrily all the time in his own tongue. Kenzo can't understand a word the little monster is saying, but he gets the idea that the goblin is mocking him in some way.
Magazin's turn
Magazin Fibros |
Seeing the battlefield, I take a moment to check the distance between where I am now and the White Deer where my equipment is.
I assume I would be in my clerics vestments and only have my Starknife (as Desna's chosen weapon), and the rest of the post is based on that assumption
I losen my starknife from where it is tied at my belt and move to engage the Goblin under the stairs.
DM Wicht |
It is assumed Magazine would have spells prepared and whatever armor and weapons you feel would be appropriate to have on him during a ceremony like this.
As Magazin moves in closer to the goblin under the stairs, the monster focuses its attention on him and growls, almost like an animal. There is a certain feral quality to both the sound and the look the goblin gives him. As it moves, the teeth on its necklace click together.
Eugen's turn
Eugen Enescu |
i'm sure i have other modifiers, but i need to look up how to use them properly, this puts me at 19, which if i understand the taxonomy of my character sheet like i did when i wrote it down, means i roll 1d8, then add three and multiply by 2, but ill just roll the die and let the dm clarify
Kenzo |
Okay, I think I'm starting to shake off the rust. Magazin took a move action (more than a 5' step) and a standard action, which was drawing his knife, so that's why he doesn't get to attack -correct? But, if he had a BAB of +1 or more, the weapon draw just folds into the move action, in which case he could then take a different standard action, and attack - correct?
DM Wicht |
Attack roll: 17, +5 (for melee attack bonus), +2 (for charge bonus) - for a total of +24 to hit.
Damage roll: 2, +3 for a strength bonus - for a total of 5 damage. A critical only succeeds if you roll a natural 19-20 with a longsword (i.e. before modifiers) and if you roll a second successful attack roll to confirm the critical.
Eugen rushes at the goblin, quick drawing his longsword. As the startled goblin looks up, the sword sweeps under the wagon and strikes it alongside the head. The goblin flies sideways, blood streaming from it's head. Feebly it strives to crawl away (0 hp - barely conscious).
Rilo's turn
DM Wicht |
Okay, I think I'm starting to shake off the rust. Magazin took a move action (more than a 5' step) and a standard action, which was drawing his knife, so that's why he doesn't get to attack -correct? But, if he had a BAB of +1 or more, the weapon draw just folds into the move action, in which case he could then take a different standard action, and attack - correct?
That's the way i've always done it. Though in the case of such an attack, there would, I believe, be an attack of opportunity on the goblin's part, indicative of the fact that the attacker is not totally focused on the attack. In Eugen's case, the character has quickdraw, allowing him to draw and charge all in the same round.
Kenzo |
So, looking at my map, Magazin moves to 19i and Eugen charges 15' to 0o (zero-o)?
Kenzo has the goblin at the jeweler's house,
Magazin is closing the goblin at the stage,
Eugen has laid a smackdown on the goblin across Junker's Way,
and Rilo's nearest option is the goblin at the jeweler's shop.
Which covers the four sneaky evil bastards that have popped up so far.
Rilo Quelross |
DM Wicht |
The goblin whimpers as Rilo charges at it, but manages to just barely roll out of the path of the blade. Frightened, the creature scuttles five feet back, further under the wagon and out of the reach of his two attackers.
Further up the square, the goblin in front of Kenzo acts a touch braver. Though wounded it slashes frantically with its dogslicer, displaying more verve than skill. Kenzo leaps backwards but too slowly. The goblin blade cuts him (attack roll: 17 +3 = 20; damage = 4) across the chest.
“Stupid longshanks die, die!” gloats the goblin to Kenzo in passable Chelaxian.
The goblin under the stairs leading up to the stage moves out and with its shield high, it lunges with its blade at the half-elf (attack roll: 12 +3 = 15; damage: 2). The tip slices across Magazin’s leg right leg and then the goblin moves back, into its cover under the stairs, shield held high.
The goblin at the corner of the jeweler’s cackles with delight and as it watches the people darting around the square fearfully, it does a little capering dance, trying to sing along with the words of the song that still fills the air.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
goblins here and you be dead!
Then, with another little cackle, it turns and runs back along Junker’s way.
Meanwhile, up on stage, As Father Zantus collects himself and observes the proceedings before him, he clutches his holy symbol and utters a prayer. Magazin and Gyorgy alike feel themselves bolstered ( Bless Spell ) as supernatural energies wash over them.
As Gyorgy moves his niece and nephew south, towards the tables, he hears his Aunt scream. As the people in the square continue to move, Gyorgy sees his aunt on the ground, one hand on her chest. For a moment Gyorgy fears the worst. However he sees no blood. It is then that he notices the goblin on the table, sitting in the only half empty punch bowl, stuffing its face with Ameiko’s curried salmon.
Gyorgy’s turn
Gyorgy Elberion |
"Don't you dare..." Gyorgy hisses between his teeth; then he stops for a second and makes a brief incantation as he cups his right hand around an imagined globe before him, his hand tightens into a fist, as if squeezing under pressure, and then springs open; releasing a bolt of shimmering blue arcane energy which spits true across the square toward the greedy goblin. Before it has he even hit Gyorgy is grabbing for his cousins and moving toward Luba again; "Keep close, but stay behind me."
I'm firing a magic missile at the goblin, then doing as much as i can with a move action to get to Luba without losing the kids. How far am I from Luba and the goblin?
I can't get on Invisible Castle right now (can do in about 3 hours) but I'm more than happy for Wicht to roll for me rather than slow the game down(1d4+1 dmg to the goblin, unless he's got some trick up his sleeve).
Kenzo |
The goblin at the corner of the jeweler’s cackles with delight and as it watches the people darting around the square fearfully, it does a little capering dance, trying to sing along with the words of the song that still fills the air.Burn the skin and mash the head,
goblins here and you be dead!
Great imagery!
DM Wicht |
The bolt of blue arcane energy strikes the goblin ( damage: 3 ) who flies backwards, spluttering. Punch and food fly everywhere. The goblin shouts something in his own tongue, clearly angry and startled.
Gyorgy quickly covers the distance to his aunt, dragging his younger relatives with him.
Just seconds after the attack started, the square is already half empty. Screams rend the air, as do shouts of battle, calls to arms, and the continuing goblin song.
Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.

Kenzo’s turn.
Kenzo |
Having been caught by the goblin's blade, Kenzo steps forward with his right foot, immediately bringing his right hand down into a reverse chop (palm up) to the goblin's neck.
14+1=15 to hit, 1+1=2 damage Close rolls, but that drops him, I believe.
The goblin's body drops to the ground, and Kenzo looks back toward the way he came for the other goblin he spotted earlier.
DM Wicht |
As Kenzo surveys the scene around him, he see's Rilo fighting with the goblin responsible for killing the dog. A swordsmen, unknown to Kenzo is helping Rilo. Across the square, nearer to the Cathedral, is seems as if some of the priests are having troubles of their own, as are some people around the tables south from where he stands.
Magazin is up.
Magazin Fibros |
Magazin takes a swing at the Goblin under the steps:
To Hit: 16+3(2 str +1 Bless)=19
If the goblin goes down I look around quickly to see if anyone is hurt and move towards them to be in position to heal next turn.
DM Wicht |
Magazin's starknife cuts the goblin even as the goblin lunges forward with its dogslicer and the goblin falls back, the fight knocked out of him. Blood trickles down the goblins dirty gray skin and the little monster's anger turns to fear for its life.
Goblin's hp = 0, barely conscious. Eugen's turn
Eugen Enescu |
i grunt in frustration as the goblin moves back further under the wagon.
"well... hi there," i say to rilo, filling in the gap while deciding what to do, "i'll go round."
moving the five feet as quickly as possible, i try to take another swing at the little fellow.
not sure if i can fit both moves into a single turn but if so
Rilo Quelross |
Wicht |
The goblin under the wagon, continues to whimper, feebly trying to dodge the blades of the two men near him. He refuses however to leave the safety of the wagon. The wagon occupies squares –2,n and –1,n
The goblin under the stage stairs, with a groan, slips through awning around the sides of the stage and dissapears from view. “Are you hurt,” Father Zantus is asking from the stage. It takes Magazin a moment to realize the other priest is addressing him. Father Zantus utters the words of a prayer and touches Magazin lightly on the head. Immediately the pain in Magazin’s leg is healed. Cure Light Wounds spell: x+4 automatically heals Magazin’s slight wound, so I’m not going to bother rolling.
Meanwhile, the goblin in the punch bowl leaps to his feet and yells angrily at Gyorgy as he retrieves his dogslicer and his shield from their places on the table at his feet. The words are filled with bitter vile but thankfully Gyorgy can’t understand a word of them.
From Junker’s Way comes the sound of fierce barking and the goblin that had run that way a few seconds ago runs back into the square, bare feet flapping on the dirt.
Gyorgy – Init 7
Gyorgy’s niece and nephew, fearfully eyeing the goblin, help Gyorgy’s aunt to her feet, all the while eyeing the threatening goblin.
“I’m alright,” says Aunt Luba, still clutching her chest, “…not really hurt.” But her breath comes in wheezes that don’t sound healthy.
Gyorgy’s Turn
Gyorgy Elberion |
"Take the south road, head for the watch house; I'll be right behind you."
Gyorgy faces the goblin; lifting the flapping free end of his belt he runs his thumbnail across it whilst humming a low, fierce incantation; "Hash-atay Hash-atay Kah. Hash-atay Hash-atay Kah" blue sparks and smoke spit from the thumbnail like a tindertwig on a brick and the smoke swirls for an instant around Gyorgy before it disapears.
Thus bolstered, Gyorgy draws his starknife and stands his ground; "Just you and me, Gobbo."
casting Mage Armour (standard action) and then drawing my starknife (move action) - Gyorgy carries three starknives on the road, but he's only got one on his person right now. I'll probably only elaborate my spells the first time, just to get in the mood
DM Wicht |
Aunt Luba doesn’t run, neither do the other two. Gyorgy senses that his niece and nephew are fearful of drawing the goblin’s attention as they run past. Instead they huddle behind Gyorgy, waiting for the right moment to flee.
“The watch-house?” gasps Luba, “But what about my house? My good plates? Goblins could be smashing my good plates right this very instant! And what about the Rusty Dragon? Ameiko went back there before this started!”

Only a few people remain in the square. Father Zantus is yelling for people to head towards the Cathedral. Others are yelling that they need to head to the Watch House. Most of the small children have been picked up by their parents. In the background there is the sound of barking, screaming and running. As the sky grows ever darker the song of the goblins continues.
Bones be cracked! Flesh be stewed.
We be goblins, you be food!

Kenzo’s turn.
Kenzo |
Not knowing if Rilo has seen the goblin that has reentered the square behind him, Kenzo quickly closes the distance, yelling with a fierce war cry to draw its attention, and throwing himself into a jumping side kick.
Unfortunately, whether it's because he rushed his kick or he did too good a job being noticed, he isn't able to connect.
Magazin Fibros |
I move 35' toward the Goblin close to Gyorgy and his family, throwing my Starknife.
Attack Roll 16
Damage Roll 3+2=5
Gyorgy, "I'll get them to the Cathedral, they'll be safe there and I'll be back to help you with the Goblins."
DM Wicht |
Magazin's starknife whirs through the air, knocking the goblin from the table.
"Is it dead?" asks Luca, peering forward.
A second later Aishe is pulling Luca and Luba. "Come on, the Guard house!"
"My house," wails Luba but the other two are pulling her along too swiftly. In seconds, at a quick trot, they have reached the southern street and are making their way towards Tower street.
Magazin, staring after them as they run, can only surmise they paid no attention to either he nor Father Zantus' call to head towards the closer Cathedral.
Eugen's turn
Eugen Enescu |
Wicht |
Eugen's swift move around the wagon catches the goblin off-guard. Flanking adds an extra +2 to attack. Eugen's sword lashes out and the goblin falls flat on the ground, unmoving. Damage: 5+3=8
Rilo's turn.
Rilo
Rilo Quelross |
Rilo turns and sees his friend kenzo fighting another goblin and charges it. "you'll owe me a drink for this one!" he says towards kenzo
DM Wicht |
Rilo is a rogue and therefore, whenever he successfully flanks and attacks he gets sneak attack damage. Extra Damage: 2 (for a total of 3)
Rilo's charge catches the unfortunate goblin unawares and the little monster squeals as Rilo's dagger slices into it from behind. Frantically it turns and lashes out with its dogslicer at Rilo's unprotected frame, vengeful goblin words exuding with every harsh breath.
Goblin attacks Rilo: 2+3 = 5
The lunge is clumsy and Rilo easily avoids it.
In the square at large there are few people left. Father Zantus is herding those few that listened to him towards the cathedral. Only the single goblin remains in view but the sound of screams and fighting continues through the town, as does the goblin song.
Goblins sneak and goblins creep,
Goblins cut you in your sleep.
Gyorgy - Init 7
Gyorgy Elberion |
Gyorgy turns to Magazin; "Thankyou, my friend; I'll be back to defend the cathedral..." Then I'll race off after my cousins and aunt.
Gyorgy has put two and two together and decided that the goblins are attacking the cathedral, rather than just the town. He intends to get his family safely elsewhere and then return to protect the place.
Fastest movement I can make (double move or run) to reach Luba, Aishe and Luca.
DM Wicht |
As Gyorgy quickly catches up to his kin, he finds that the three of them have stopped running. The street south of them is swarming with goblins. Several tents have been set up here and goblins are cackling and running around them with torches. Even as Gyorgy watches one of the tents goes up in flames.
“We can’t go that way,” says Luba fearfully.
It is then that Gyorgy notices that one of the goblins is banging on a drum tied to his waist and chanting out the creepy song that seems to fill the air everywhere.
When you nestle in your beds,
We will gently eat your heads.

Kenzo |
Hoping to take advantage of Rilo's flanking attack, Kenzo puts all his strength into a palm heel strike to the goblins chest, and indeed, he hears a number of bones crack under his hand.
After the lifeless goblin drops to the ground, he turns to his new friend and says, "Thanks, Rilo. Now, what's next?" as he looks around for more goblins.
DM Wicht |
Magazin retrieves his starknife and makes his way closer to where Gyorgy is inexplicably standing still with his family. Eugen moves east around the wagon.
Gyorgy
Meanwhile, Gyorgy sees another goblin, also carrying a torch rush into a tent. More goblins are further down the street.
One of the goblins touches his torch to the hay in the wagon... Results are almost instantaneous.
From their place in the square, Eugen, Magazin, Rilo and Kenzo all see flames leap into the sky from the south. Sounds of fighting are currently heaviest to the south and the west. Even as they catch their breath and peer into the growing gloom, the whole street leading south, away from the square is suddenly lit up. A hay wagon, left abandoned in the street, just beyond the square, has been lit on fire and several goblins caper around it, cackling and singing all the while.
Eugen and Rilo can also see a flaming tent on the east side of the dirt street.
Roll for initiatives. Gyorgy can also act in the surprise round.

Gyorgy Elberion |
I whisper (but loud enough to be heard above any commotion) to Luca; "You've got to get your sister and Aunt Luba into the cathedral; it's the safest place; go quietly now."
Then I ready an action to cast daze on the chanter; but i'm giving my family members a chance to get away before I cast anything. I'll use it the moment the chanter trys to act.

I've deleted my record of those pre-rolls i made; but I didn't have initiative in the list anyway. If you want to you can roll my initiative (+3 dex) or i'll do it when I get home in 3 or 4 hours.

Gyorgy readies an action during the surprise round; Magazin acts first in the first round.
Magazin Fibros |
I move up 35' closer to the Goblin, and a second move to go inbetween Gyorgy and the Goblin, trying to maintain 10' between Gyorgy and myself at the end of my movement.
After moving up, I smile, "Sandpoint appears to be infested with vermin, how much does being an exterminator pay these days?"
DM Wicht |
Even as Magazin moves, the goblins charge, their bard in the lead. But as the goblins begin to move, Gyorgy mutters the words of a spell and directs it at the still chanting goblin.
Goblin Save: 3+3 = 6
The enraged goblin is momentarily taken aback, dazed by the spell, and his singing stops. His failure to move prevents the torch-wielding goblin right behind him from effectively charging as well.
The goblin on the west side of the wagon, prevented from charging Gyorgy, charges at Magazin instead. Likewise another goblin charges the thirty feet towards Gyorgy, passing just outside of Magazin’s range.
Goblin attack vs. Magazin: 13 +5 = 18; Damage = 1
Goblin attack vs. Gyorgy: 7 +5 = 12
The first goblin, eager for blood, slashes wildly with his dogslicer. Magazin manages to jumb back just in time to avoid the worst of it but the rusty blade still manages to nick him. His movement distracts the second goblin enough for Gyorgy to turn aside the dogslicer aimed for his knees.
Map:
The southern most tent suddenly erupts in flames. There is an inhuman shriek of pain and a flaming goblin rushes out from the tent, still clutching his torch. He makes it about fifteen feet before collapsing to the ground.
The tent at [g,23] is now aflame.
Rilo is up.
