Instead, I moved back to Texas this month. Whatever beer I want, I tell the guy at the store and he orders it.

Costco has a liquor warehouse here.

I'm in alcohol heaven.

What? Where about? Do you have a game going yet?

A little pedestrian, but ive found often in the suburbs this is the best you can do.

Sitting here on vacation looking out over the pacific ocean drinking some 21st amendment Hell or High Watermelon, A little fruity for my tastes but 1 or 2 on warm day not bad.

I'm in Houston -- Bear Creek Village. There's a game on the north side I may sit in on Saturday, but my old group is too far east now (Houstonderek is down near Hobby somewhere, I think, and Andostre's got two rugrats to keep him occupied). If you're northwest somewhere, we should definitely meet for a beer sometime!

Maybe pedestrian, but it's still BEER.

At least it's not anything with "Bud" in the name... :P

Surly beers are also good, if you guys have not tried them.

Dearest Pan,

You and I have crossed paths on this board and I've PM'd you in case you ever want to game in RL. I think this would be a hoot. If you concur, feel free to get in touch. I'm posting here since you're in this thread a bit.

FYI, if you want me to stop cyber-stalking you just let me know. As you can tell from my other current threads I'm pretty thick-headed. Hope all's well and the jalapeno beer works out.

Oh, and Summit continues to be my fave rave.

Sent ya a reply pally! Sorry ive been bad at getting back to folks. Ive been dating a lot and thats eating all my time. Summit is a good standby and I like anything by Schells (except shellshocked its probably the worst beer I have ever bought. A real shame since I love anything with Schells on the bottle.) I make a killer Extra Pal Ale that you would gladly trade for your Summit :)

Cheers,
pan

Thats absolutely true. Funny story about Bud, I had the office rolling on the floor laughing the other day. For some reason they were trying to figure out what dysentery was. I informed them of the alignment and that im pretty sure Bud lite causes it :)

Fun fact time, Budweiser used to make 55 million gallons of swill a year in 2000. Guess how many gallons they make a year now???

answer:
16 million gallons weoooo Viva la beer revolution!!!

Henniker's Double Brown Ale was pretty good- a little chewy. The other Hannaford's grocery store in town had Shipyard Summer Ale in cans for a cheaper price (moving inventory maybe) than I had been paying at the other Hannaford's all summer. Bought all four 12 packs.

I see a lot of Octoberfest beer in the stores and as much as I want to, I just can't buy it yet. Summer seems short enough.

Drinking Red Trolley Ale right now. Nice Irish Red. Nice, strong malty flavor. To try later, I've got Tsingtao, Wychwood Scarecrow, Anchor California Lager, and a bunch of stuff I'm forgetting.

Silver Crusade

Ballast Point's Victory at Sea.

Nothing else comes close for me.

Oh, I have some Asahi. Doesn't really compare to a good craft beer, of course, but it's good for the price. I feel the same about Sapporo.

Silver Crusade

I am going to miss Asahi when I leave Japan soon.
My favorite uncontested is still Mac&Jacks and Irish Death. Yummy yummy.
hopefully next Paziocon the hotel will have it, if not Alaskan Amber is a tasty and reliable consolation. Just like the Seelah Pregen! ^-^

Been drinking St. Arnold's much-vaunted Santo black Kölsch, because I usually like to support local brewers. Unfortunately, in this case the stuff really isn't all that good.

I was driving through northern Indiana a couple weeks ago, so I picked up 4 cases of Three Floyds, their Gumballhead, Alpha King and Yum Yum. They're normally hoppier than what I generally prefer, but they're very well balanced that I still enjoy them.

Combined with all the whiskey we had bought in Kentucky, my dad was slightly worried about being pulled over and getting dinged for transporting alcohol across state lines.

Just bottled a nice Irish Red Ale and have nothing but empty carboys staring back at me. Time to get some mead and brew going for sure!

Picked up some Old Speckled Hen for gaming tonight!

Pivovar Herold Czech Black Lager.

I do have some dark ale brewing, plus a demi-john full of cider, since Lady Longears gave me a load of cooking apples that I had to do something with.

Where in San Francisco would I find mead?

Finally got to try Bruce Dickinson's "Trooper" beer. Starts off as a very decent English pub ale, then fails when the overly-sour aftertaste kicks in.

Sovereign Court

Trying Adnams dry-hopped lager.

Does what it says: a dry, very good lager. I like.

Buckler

Had the nice ride from ma local cider werks. Very tasty stuff.

I had some plum flavoured porter from the Titanic brewery (I think). Didn't like it much.

Plum wine is delicious, but adding plum to any type of beer sounds unappealing.

Drank some Sebago (out of Maine) Bonfire Rye Ale the other night- very good rye IPA style.

Shipyard's (out of Maine) Prelude Ale is also quite good this time of year if you like those darker, holiday spiced beers.

Y'know, it's funny; I find that fruit beer is usually a horrible "someone got Kool-Aid in my lager"-type flavor experience, but White Birch Brewing has blueberry and raspberry weisse that I enjoy quite a bit. Hell or High Watermelon by 21st Amendment Brewery is awesome too, but both are on the the sour side, rather than sweet.

. . .

Yes, I'm posting on a beer thread at 10 am; this is a proud, proud moment.

Different fruits bring different flavors. I am sure that Plum could go well with some type of brew, hell I could probably make it work. However, its just sounding like a bad idea.

The answer is at work, apparently.

I just texted my brother if he'd ever tried New Belgium Fat Tire. I've been meaning to try it and Publix has it on sale starting tomorrow. He replied "Yeah nothn special."

He then texted me, "Ever have natty daddy its robust n delightful" I had to Google what Natty Daddy even was.

Ew.

I don't think I can trust his beer recommendations at all.

Im soaking bourbon on American oak right now that I will add to a porter fermenting in my pantry. Look forward to that in about 1.5 years.

For now, i'm throwing back some peanut butter porter and coffee cream ale I made back before x-mas. Delicious!

Anything with an alcohol content suits me, but my personal preferences are

Beer - Miller, Budweiser
Whiskey - Crown Royal, Jack Daniels
Sake - Sho Chiru Bai
Rum - Captain Morgan
Vodka - Absolut

Say 'no' to high-strength Bud Light, kids.

At the moment, I am particularly fond of Guinness Foreign Extra, especially the Nigerian version, even though the difference may just be in my mind.

Viking Jólabjór- stumbled across it in Keflavik this last December.
Krombacher Pils- stumbled across it in Wiesbaden this last November.

Also Alaskan Amber and Tsingtao.

Alaskan Amber is not bad. I had their Red ale once and it was great. I have not seen it in years tho.

Sapporo is great with Japanese cuisine.

I read this as 'Favoriete Beer' for a second.
Which means Favorite Bear in dutch.
Now I'm somehow disapointed.

If you're serious... I might suggest that you step up your game, my friend!

The following are in the same categories as your preferred potables, but are a step or two higher in quality...

Beer: Pilsner Urquell, Sierra Nevada Nooner Pilsner, Dave's All Day IPA
Whiskey: Maker's Mark (bourbon), Old Overholt (rye), Jameson's (Irish)
Rum: Kraken (spiced), Mount Gay Eclipse (Barbados golden)

Vodka is an odd spirit: The higher the quality, the less individual character it tends to have. I'm not much of a fan of drinking it straight. The only vodka cocktail I really like is a bloody mary, and a good one depends far more on the non-vodka ingredients. (i.e. any halfway-decent vodka will do as long as you have a good recipe and are using quality ingredients.)

I haven't explored sake enough to have any recommendations.

I just tried Brewery Omegang's Mother of Dragons: A blend of a kriek-style lambic and a smoked porter.

Very nice!

Please tell us your favourite bear anyway, Woran. And, if you want to stay on topic, what sort of beer it might drink.

I love spectacled bears.

Due to their diet, they would probably enjoy cactus beer.

Haladir is nearly spot on here. Im not big on rum on the best of days, but I can honestly say the Kraken is nasty. Do yourself a favor and dont release it. (excellently designed bottle though)

I don't know anything about rum or vodka, but IMO Jameson's basic whiskey tastes like something crawled into it and died.

I suggest Bushmills' 10 year old single malt or the Kilbeggan (formerly Greenore) Single Grain as substitutes.

Also, John, if you're looking for something new to try, I'd recommend anything by Unibroue (from Canada) especially 1837 (a Belgian pale ale) & A Tout Le Monde/Megadeth (a Belgian saison). I love their La Fin Du Monde (a Belgian tripel), but it only takes two to knock me on my butt these days.

If you are looking for a refreshing beer for winding down after work, after lawn mowing/yard stuff (not now, of course), or with a meal, I'd also recommend trying Full Sail's (from Oregon) Session Cream (an American cream ale). A 12-pack in bottles should only run you a buck or so more than a 12-pck of Miller Lite, MGD, or Budweiser.

I'll try to find them, but the neighborhood distributor isn't very large, and doesn't have a wide selection.

I'm trying Flying Dog Imperial Porter at the moment, and it's better than I was expecting - I feared it'd be overly sickly, but it's pretty reasonable.

Was nearby, so popped by Total Wine. They were out of my favorite cream ale, so I picked up something new to me: a 4-pack of Unibroue's Trois Pistoles. I was so fixated on finding a dark ale that I somehow overlooked the obvious 9% ABV on the labels. A bit more alcoholic bite than I was expecting, but quite good, especially with food. Reminds me of a burgundy or a red wine with some backbone.

Abita Amber is one of my favs
