Please do not make the Runelord of Lust a woman

I think that it would be a bit dicey to have the Runelord of Lust be male anyway. Imagine some greasy horrible man casting charm person on his targets... Too close to heavy emotional subjects like rape. I think that the potential overtones might be defused a bit by have Lust be a woman, even if lust is represented as strong desire for a thing, as opposed to sexual lust.

One thing to keep in mind as well is that Sorshen barely plays a part in Rise of the Runelords. And she's already got about a quarter page of details and stuff written about her in Pathfinder 1, which is pretty much printed and about to ship. She does have some androgynous aspects, and as a powerful wizard, she's certainly able to change genders with polymorph or alter self, but she is indeed a female when all is said and done.

DOH! There's that whole magic thing again, kinda makes the request for a hermaphrodite unnecessary. It'll be interesting to see what you guys do with her.

I can definitely agree that rape would be a touchy subject but then again it wouldn't really be a Runelord of Lust it would most likey be some poor old fool who has become afflicted with his own lust. I imagine that the RoL would be someone who is a master of the art who doesn't need to rape anyone in any fashion to get what they want out of them. Primarily, they are so skilled with deceit and manipulation that they would get their victim(s) to go along with whatever totally voluntarily.

On another note (and sort of what you were going along with, Eltanin), would be that the Runelord of Lust is not necessarily a physical being but something "else." And this "else" afflicts individuals who become worthy as a harbinger of lust and that "else" stays with that physical shell as long as it lives or until another worthy victim shows face.

I'm not sure how much sense that made, but my two cents they were.

The reallity is though that most DMs are lazy and will go with a very sexual view of lust. And with rape, it's not just about force, but also about corersion and the taking of someones power. If a person feels that they can't say 'NO', be it fear, presure, drugs and alcohol (and in D&D terms charm) that legally constitutes a rape. I think this time sticking to a sterotype is safest, not for the party but for the people playing the game. bad visuals could trigger bad memories both male and female.

(FYI: My wife works for an organization that helps survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. I've been voulnteering and working there for ten years.) * Blackdragon resumes his cromagnon posture and knuckle walks away.*

I know it's the easy sell: take some enchantress, put her in a jiggy little outfit, slap some bangly jewelry on her and call her the personification of lust. But it's too pat and will rob the Runelords of their majestic menace.

/brainstorm off.

What if this particular runelord lost their physical body long before the event that left them sleeping?

What if it needs a host and what better way to prolong such a nemesis by having them take a succession of hosts having been awake a lot longer than the rest using the device of a supposed secret artefact th hide its presence so it has been using and abusing a succession of hosts across the ages and its only know being revealed as a result of the first runelord's defeat?

Personally I've been looking at this and thinking... what if I ran it in Eberron?
I know, I know, its hasn't been nice between Paizo and WOTC but when I first heard about this i though make the Runelords giants... make it a return of the Giants saga and in the process reveal what really happened in Xendrik.
I apoligise again if this offends some of you but still it only makes me want to buy it more as some of the things sorely lacking as far as I see it is more lower level scenarios especially set outside of Sharn and this, Hollow's Last Hope and Crown of the Kobold Kings has reawakened my interest.

So more the merrier, now to see how I can afford all of this...

Hey I like this! This has killer potential for a great story!

Yeah. I could see Sloth being this wiry thin fellow who wants everyone to 'relax and be kind to themselves...'..."Let me do that for you...don't stress yourself...you should take it easy I'll get that for you..." and slowly they begin to atrophy just like him as they waste away to some emaciated corpse that makes the Holocost Survivors look well feed and healthy, but they feel no pain... none at all... they just... waste away.... in blissful apathy!

Bwahahaha...heh!

Lust doesn't necassarily have to be sexual or physical in any sense either.

Lust can also be a twisted desire towards something or someone. Desire alone can crush a persons spirit. Focused ambition torwards a goal can make a person do some crazy things.

You're apparently not really familiar with lust, especially as one of the Seven Deadly Sins. What you're describing, depending on what is focused on, is greed, gluttony, possibly envy or maybe even pride.

I do understand what you're saying, but as one of the Deadly Sins, lust is very narrowly defined.

Having the Runelord of Lust be a woman is fine because it lets the pictures be a bit of fan service for everyone who wants a naughty pin-up girl and avoids the whole business of having a male Runelord of Lust being an insatiable rapist, upsetting a great many fans, or having him somehow not be an insatiable rapist but merely seducing women with promises of wealth, power, or just really hot sex, which then makes him about the moral equivalent of Hugh Hefner or at worst Larry Flint, disappointing other fans and confusing more.

It also avoids another trouble with art direction, namely what do you do about drawing the male runelord of lust without either making him look as sexless as a Ken doll or indistinguishable from gay porn? How big of a bulge does he have in his pants? Can he find pants? Wouldn't he logically look something like Priapus?

Having a female runelord of lust avoids this, and also lets artists draw her however they like, with whatever cup size they like, and have it be correct, because honestly, any lusty wizardess with Alter Self is going to be doing that, picking her look and figure based on some combination of her preferences and whatever she thinks would be most seductive for her current conquest.

and tell me how a woman can't go out and be a rapist......

oh wait, don't bother going there.

will the runelord of lust be having a blog entry??? with art?

On what grounds do you think a Runelord of Lust would be anything *but* bi-sexual? Come on, how to narrow your victim pool! Whether they are male or female, your PC is fair game... ;)

Well, there isn't much about her yet, I think we know where her major city, Eurythnia, is (its ruins lay under Korvosa) Castle Korvosa is built over her tomb. She was an enchanter, and she died circa -5293 AR. That's about it that has been published about her I think.

and as stands I'm 98% sure there has been no art on her published yet.

We apparently have a very powerful thread necromancer on these boards. Talk about a blast from the past.

So any future appearances of any other Runelords?

Instead, we have Sorshen, the female Runelord of Rust, who probably was an insatiable rapist. She probably wasn't sexist, though, and raped both genders.

And yes, using enchantment magic (her forte) to make people sleep with you is rape.

Anyway, a male RoL would have looked something like THIS

Not necessarily. Times when people can walk around in steak suits probably qualify as stranger aeons.

Instead of making suppositions about what I look like and my inner personality, why not do me a favor and get me a sponge bath. It's been millennia since I last received a thorough scrubbing. My flesh folds are starting to smell like week-old gouda. Mmmm, and now I'm getting hungry. Who wants to cook me a hot pocket?

Oh, granted, but I'm not the one making up society's taboos and what's more socially acceptable.

A wicked bisexual enchantress using her charms to seduce men as well as women for hetero sex and hot lesbian sex will flip less people out than a wicked bisexual enchanter using his charms to seduce women as well as men for hetero sex and hot gay sex.

Add to that the fact that women with straining bras are put on the covers of major magazines and romance novels whereas men with straining crotches are relegated to magazines sold in adult bookstores....

"Male", "Female". Gozreh was really unimaginative when he invented the sexes.

But I picked up the work where he left off.

If you feel that your gender doesn't feel right for you, the "opposite" isn't to your liking either, and you don't want one of those cheap knock-offs like she-male or cullen, our laboratories can offer you 17 new and exciting genders.

How about that upcoming presidential election? Anyone want to take bets? I think that Mitt Romney's going all the way.

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go fill out the paperwork to refinance my house. I'm going to use the proceeds to purchase shares of Lehman Brothers and AIG.

You know, this is actually something I've been wondering about in my free time. If you slip someone an elixir/philter of love (or they do it to you), does it count as rape if they take advantage of the situation?

Yes. Magic roofies are roofies just the same.
