Actually it was Harven's turn.

The beast steps back from the thug who sliced him open and shifts back to human form. Terin then draws some of nature's essence into him with a gesture and some words, causing his hand to glow with a greenish hue. Placing the hand to his wound, the tissue begins to mend together as Terin says "Now then, lets try this again, defiler." and flashes the thug who struck him a toothy grin.
The beast 5' steps back from the thug and shifts (a swift action) into human form, and casts Cure Light Wounds on himself for 1d8+1= 7 points of healing bringing himself back to full hit points.

Anders Delymbir wrote:
In which case, I will take my standard action to have my bat-crow illusion swoop down for a savage bite attack on the uninjured thug on the forecastle.

Good deal. We'll just say the standard action went first. If you want to keep the illusion going instead of doing something else next round, make a concentration check first (from the climbing).

Gritty Hero Dialog wrote:

I love it. Nice shot Harven!

Seann / Tyndal / Eldin up. :)

Eldin, still down in the Low Tide, hurriedly checks the downed thug for signs of life. He wants to determine, firstly, that the man is still alive and not in immediate danger of perishing; and secondly, that he is not likely to come to in the next few minutes.
Standard action: Heal Check to assess condition: 7+7 = 14.

Assuming that the thug is stable but looks like he’ll stay out for a while, Eldin will attempt to climb up the rope onto the deck of the Nixie.
Move action: Climb rope: 9-2 = 7. Fails climb check.

Eldin cannot find purchase on the algae coated ropes, and, offering a quick prayer to Fharlanghn, prepares to try again.

Eldin Farstrider wrote:

The thug is pretty beat up, between Terin and the fall, but he doesn't seem to be losing anymore blood. You can tell that he is unconcious and breathing, but you aren't sure how long he will be out, or even if he will recover on his own at all.

Male Human Sorcerer 2

Anders' concentration check (1d20+4=14)

I think that should do it. I'm not taking damage, only concentrating on a 1st level spell, and I would say climbing a rope is vigorous motion (DC 10), not violent motion (DC 15).

DC10 is Perfect. :)

I'm showing 5 more rounds on Bless (after this round, not including), by the way, so don't forget your attack bonuses (+2 for Seann with MW).

Male Human Fighter 3

Turning to the two thugs on the quarterdeck, Tyndal swings his flail.

1pt Power Attack, using the +1 bonus for Bless. (1d20+4=17)

1pt Power Attack, using the +1 bonus for Bless. (1d8+4=11)

Cleave

1pt Power Attack, using the +1 bonus for Bless. (1d20+4=18)

1pt Power Attack, using the +1 bonus for Bless. (1d8+4=12)

"Last chance, swim or die"

Holy crap. That's first hit pulps one for sure! Cleave swing looks to kill the second one as well. You're a machine. Will recap and take the crew's turn (what's left of them) once I get home, if Seann has posted.

Male Human Fighter 3

Im just getting extremely lucky on rolls. :)

But always good to announce one's presence with authority :P

From my goofball stick figure layout, it appears Tyndal and Terin are together on the Quarterdeck, Anders and Seann are together amidships, Eldin is clinging to the rope, and Harvin is close to the forecastle, where the remaining thug is (with 2 hp).

The Exchange

I wanted to post initiative on this page.
Hope I have everyone.

I wonder if that thug is going to live through Seann's action. Poor guys (and gal) are really taking a beating.

M Human (Oeridian) Wizard (Transmuter) 1 / Favored Soul 2 (Lirr)

I'm having trouble visualizing this: are there any thugs near Seann? If not, where are they?

Seann Eoghan wrote:

There is a single thug remaining on deck, Seann could reach him easily with a move action. You also have line-of-sight to him, if you need to cast.

Sleepy-time for me. Back at midnight (eastern).

M Human (Oeridian) Wizard (Transmuter) 1 / Favored Soul 2 (Lirr)

Seann sneaks up behind the remaining thug, all creepy-like and stealty, then, with a lightning-quick thrust, plunges his spear into the thug's back.

Attack: 10 + 3 Str + 1 Bless + 1 Magic Weapon = 15; Damage: 1d8 + 4 (two-handed) + 1 Bless + 1 Magic Weapon = 12 damage.

Yar. Nice hit! Drops him to -10

Recap and adversary round in a few, need to run a couple Ethernet cables.

I've been keeping a sad little sketch of the battle up to date, as I needed something portable to take back and forth to work. If you need a frame of reference, here's the current lay of things: Nixie.

(admit it, you live in fear of my mad stick figure skilz)

Male Human Sorcerer 2

That sketch is awesome

Sorry for holding up the flow of things here:

Previous round (just ended):

Anders (with Fidget) clambers up the rope, maintaining his spell all the while. Harven rushes across the deck, firing an arrow into the thug being vexed by Anders’ illusion. Terin instantaneously shifts back to human form and undoes the thug’s harm to his person with druidic power. Meanwhile, Tyndal hammers the remaining thugs on the Quarterdeck into the planks, at the same time as Seann is making quick work of the previously injured (by Harven) pirate on the Forecastle. Eldin closes out the round by checking on the comatose thug, and then making a valiant attempt at joining the rest of you on board the Nixie.

----- New Round ----

A dusky skinned man with a closely shorn pate thunders onto the main deck, quickly followed by an outsized hound. Grubby sailcloth pants and a cutoff shirt hang from his lithe frame, his dark outline broken only by a skull tattoo on one arm, and a jagged pink scar on the other. Even were it not contorted by rage, his countenance would betray signs of questionable parentage. From Lavinia’s description, you know this individual to be Soller Vark.

“You ain’t the Lotus!,” he snarls. “Must be that slut’s rented help.” Seeing the corpses of his hired crew strewn across the deck, he blanches briefly, then bellows back down the way he came, “It’s all gone to the abyss. Torch the place!”

“Doesn’t matter anyway,” Vark observes. “I’ll get my money out of you lot!”

Vark spends his second action this round talking.

He points towards Harven and roars, “Bark, kill!”

The massive canine launches itself at the diminutive man, but its jaws close on empty air with an audible snap as Harven twists aside with ease (ouch, natural 1) .

Anders is a go.

Vark and Bark are both 16+ to hit.

Male Human Sorcerer 2

The bat-crow illusion will circle around again for a swooping attack at Vark.

The illusion has probably outlived its usefulness, but we'll see if I can milk it one more round.

Other than that, Anders will keep as much cover as he can between himself and the enemy, for the moment.

Male Wood Elf (+2str,+2dex,-2con,-2int) Druid 3 Experience points-3000

Harven is up, right?

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1

Harven ducks and weaves as he retreats from the massive canine, paying careful attention to keep his guard up. Tumble Check to avoid AoO (1d20+8=24)

He then heads up the stairs, hoping the massive canine won't be able to follow up the stairs. However, he trips as he turns at the top of the stairs to fire at Bark, and his shot flies wide, sailing over the edge of the nixie, and off into the ocean.

Move up the stairs, triggering skirmish, shoot back at Bark. I hope this dog can't climb stairs, or i am stuffed.

Attack Roll (1d20+7=12)

Male Wood Elf (+2str,+2dex,-2con,-2int) Druid 3 Experience points-3000

Terin pulls a strap of leather from around his waist that doubles as a belt and reaches into a pouch producing an egg shaped lead pellet which he drops into a cuplike shape in the leather strap. Twirling it once in an overhand motion to gain momentum he releases the sling bullet towards the foul image of Vark.
1d20+3-2 for range=18 to hit, 1d4+3=7 damage!.
After whacking the ugly countenance of Vark with a bullet to the face, Terin takes a 5' step towards the ladder down from the upper level of the Ship. "Take that you disgusting creature!"

M Human (Oeridian) Wizard (Transmuter) 1 / Favored Soul 2 (Lirr)

Seann begins to creep around to flank the distracted Vark, simultaneously gesturing furtively. As he moves perpendicularly to Vark, Seann is suddenly shrouded in a maze of glowing green lines that seem to correspond directly with his tattoos.

Casts Mage Armor: +4 to AC (now AC 16)

Male Human Fighter 3

If Bark is anywhere near the edge of the ship, Tyndal will charge with a Bull Rush, attempting to remove the dog without killing it. Otherwise, he will charge Vark

Str Check for Bull Rush (1d20+3=14)

Alternatively, attack on Vark

1pt Power Attack with Bless (1d20+4=6) (That should be 8, due to charge) WHIFF!

Harven Whisperfeet wrote:

Rofl. Maybe he has hip dysplasia?

Nice hit Terin! I loved the sling “props” in the other thread.

Seann, on the map I put you a 5’ step from Vark to avoid an AoO from either moving into his area or casting this round. Is that acceptable?

For Tyndal, bark is closer to being a “straightish” charge, especially now that Harven has moved, so we’ll roll with the Bull Rush (plus it’ll give you better odds than the attack on Vark, ha!

Eldin is a go (I'll resolve the bull rush in a sec).

Grrr, IC is websensed out here at work (Can't imagine why...) so I have to use a semi-linkable roller while I'm here (sorry 'bout that).

Bark reacts to the armored man’s charge with a wild snap of its jaws (1d20+2 = 7), but the great canine’s teeth simply scrabble off the finely crafted shell, unable to find purchase.

Tyndal collides into Bark with terrible energy, yet the massive animal pushes back with equal force (1d20 +2 (str) + 4 (quadruped) = 14, refusing to be moved! Locked in deadly contest, the opponents finally push off one another, with Bark giving what could almost be considered a grudging growl of respect.

NPC'ing Eldin for this round

Eldin redoubles his efforts, clambering up the rope on the side of the caravel (1d20-2-> [16,-2] = (14) ).

Seeing the rest of the party engaged in battle, he prepares to heal anyone injured by the pirate captain or his cur. (Readied standard action to cast CLW.)

Enemy actions will go in as soon as I return with lunch and ice cream.

The large hound renews the assault on the new attacker, biting down hard into the meat of Tyndal’s thigh ( 1d20+3 = 20 ) until the sickening crunch of bone is heard (1d6+3 = 8 ) .

Immediately Bark begins to worry his prey, shaking its head back and forth in an attempt to sweep Tyndal from his feet (Free action touch attack, no AoO, no return trip) .

Tyndal, please make an opposed Strength check to beat DC 19 to avoid being tripped.

At the same time, Eldin springs into action, sending a torrent of positive energy into Tyndal, ameliorating the damage from the bite wound and knitting the bones of his leg into proper position ( CLW for 9 ). I moved him a little closer than he ought to be for this, but what the hell, right?

As for Soller Vark, he spits a bloody tooth from his mouth and utters something about Tyndal’s mother and a troll, which doesn’t even seem possible, unless perhaps she was a circus contortionist. Vark sees the crow beast above, but swats it aside as one would a household pest ( 1d20-1 = 15 (will save) ). Clearly he’s had experience with illusions in the past.

Seeing Tyndal off balance, Vark presses the attack, but fails miserably ( 1d20+5= 9 ) as Tyndal tumbles backwards (possibly catching himself, possibly not), out of range of Vark's rapier!

You can hear the screeching and cawing of dozens of terrified animals from below, as puffs of smoke begin to waft upwards through the hatches. There is a sudden sharp "crack," followed by popping noises and a woman's scream cut short. The tang of ozone briefly eclipses the reek of the fire from underneath.

Anders is up!

Male Human Sorcerer 2

The illusion has run its course. I drop it, and instead fire a magic missile at Vark. Three first level spells down, one left.

1st level, one missile, automatic hit, 3 points of damage.

Anders' Magic Missile damage (1d4+1=3)

Male Wood Elf (+2str,+2dex,-2con,-2int) Druid 3 Experience points-3000

Harven is up next, right?
Terin yells, "I'm heading below, there's an animal in trouble somewhere, and smoke from the hold! Make sure Vark can do no further harm!"

All fine and shiny, that. (I forgot about the AoO being provoked by the casting of a spell.)

Yep, yep!:

Anders
Harven
Terin
Tyndal / Seann
Eldin

Vark rocks on his heels from the impact of Anders’ streaking missiles. Though clearly injured, Vark appears to have plenty of fight left in him. Vark is now down (not "down to") 10 hit points

Male Whisper Gnome Scout 1 / Ranger 1
Terin 'The Beast' Talonshift wrote:

Harven continues to skirt around the edge of the Blue Nixie, looking for an opening. He wants to help Terin save the animals below, but knows he would be severely limited in the cramped quarters below deck. He crosses to the other side of the Ship, before turning to fire at Vark.

Attack Roll (1d20+9*=22), even with a -4 for firing into melee, that should be a hit, for 1+3=4 Damage

*7 + 1 from Bless, + 1 from Point blank shot

Harven Whisperfeet wrote:

Yelping at the impact of Harven's fletched projectile, Vark’s face begins to betray a sign of desperation, rather than fury.

Terin, if you choose to go below on your turn:

Spoiler:
The hold of the ship is utter chaos. Singed parrots flap about, desperately seeking daylight, and panicked rats and monkeys dash across the room, without regard for obstructions or each other. Small fires smolder everywhere belowdecks, and the stench of smoke, animal dander, and feces is overpowering. Cages are sprawled every which way, some empty and hanging open, others locked tight with their cargo now charred and unmoving.

In addition, anyone else who goes below may read the previous spoiler, as well as attempt either of the following if you so desire:
DC 20 spot:

Spoiler:
Even amidst the pandemonium, one cage in particular draws your eye. The blackened carcass of a lizard lay at the bottom of a pen (one of the two largest within the hold); a torch sputters inside its mouth, at the other end of which you can only just discern a dreadfully burnt feminine hand. Cages cover the body attached to the hand, and you cannot perceive what state it might be in from your current vantage.

DC10 Search:
Spoiler:
Read the preceding Spot spoiler. During the time you spent searching, a random number of panicked animals have attacked you and moved on. Reduce your current HP by 2 (A DC 15 reflex save negates this damage) .

Male Wood Elf (+2str,+2dex,-2con,-2int) Druid 3 Experience points-3000

spot=15
search=8
reflex=22
Kinda sucky rolls! Probably don't need them til next round though.

Terin moves into the hold of the ship but smoke and heat cloud his vision and as he fumbles about various creatures flail past trying to find escape. Natural instinct and insight into the way panicked creatures act save him from any collisions with the escaping beasts.

M Human (Oeridian) Wizard (Transmuter) 1 / Favored Soul 2 (Lirr)

Seann, predictably, maneuvers around the obviously distressed Vark, ready to deliver a killing blow. For some reason, though, he figures he shouldn't kill the pirate, ugly as he might be. As quietly as possible, Seann reverses his grip on his spear, and delivers a sharp tap to the base of Vark's skull with his spearbutt.

Attack: 16 + 4 Str (2-handed) + 1 Bless + 1 Magic Weapon = 22; Damage (nonlethal): 1d6 + 4 Str (2-handed) + 1 Bless + 1 Magic Weapon = 8 nonlethal damage.

*cough* Now how did you know to make that reflex save if you failed the spoiler roll, rofl...*cough*

Yeah, ummm, oops. In my defense I wasn't really supposed to roll anything until next round but now my next rounds' actions are all done! I won't be holding anyone up.

Male Human Sorcerer 2

For my action:

"Surrender and we'll let you live, cur. Bluff There's a squad of Merchant District watchmen loyal to the Vanderborens rowing out to meet us now. It will be better for you if you surrender now."

Anders' bluff against Vark. (1d20+6=13)

Meh.

Other than that, Anders will sit tight behind cover, and ready an action to cast another magic missile at him if he closes to attack me.

M Human (Oeridian) Wizard (Transmuter) 1 / Favored Soul 2 (Lirr)

Is Vark unconscious due to Seann's attack?

Seann Eoghan wrote:

Negative; bet he feels like crap though! Even with the -4 for nonlethal with a lethal, it's still a solid hit.

Anders Delymbir wrote:

Sounds like a reasonable enough bluff. I'll think on what Vark makes of it while I sleep and wait on Tyndal & Eldin.

Staying on his back, Tyndal swings his flail at the dog.

Thanks for running Eldin. So he has spontaneously converted his Obscuring Mist spell to a CLW and cast on Tyndal. Now, what is the layout on deck, what bad guys are left and where are they in relation to us? If nothing more urgent presents itself, Eldin will probably cast Longstrider on himself, to improve his mobility.
