Monsters in MM1, but not OGL?

I figured someone out there has to have a list, so I tought I'd try to save myself some time.

Does some have a list of Monsters from the Core Monster Manual that are not OGL?

I've been wondering about this myself; are Kobolds OGL?

According to d20 SRD's FAQ

beholder
gauth
carrion crawler
displacer beast
githyanki
githzerai
kuo-toa
mind flayer
slaad
umber hulk
yuan-ti

Basically, as I understand it, if its not in the SRD, its not OGL.

Fear me ;)

Are those the ones that are OGL or that aren't?

Those are the ones that are not OGL. As in, those are the ones Pathfinder can't use.

Damn it! Mindflayers, Githyanki and Beholders are some of my favorite monsters and I had been hoping for an appearance of at least the mindlfayers in Pathfinder. Curse you, WotC! At least I'll still have my kobolds...

You can always check the Hypertext d20 SRD: Kobolds.

If it's there, it's OGL.

I'm more bummed about umber hulks and kuo-toa actually. Coupled with mind flayers WotC has done a good job of depopulating the underdark.

I thought Mindflayers were a rip-off of Cthulhu (whom I also believed to be in the public domain considering how old it is). Couldn't there be an OGL rip-off of Cthulhu made to fit the mold?

On another message, under the Transition Discussion there was talk about this...

Almost everything from the core rulebooks is in the SRD. Proper names are out but the spells that use them are in (so you just leave off the name). As far as our world and the SRD are concerned, mind flayers and beholders (and githyanki, slaad, yuan-ti, umber hulks, and all the other protected monsters) simply do not exist. Do not reference them. Do not try to be coy and talk about floating eyeball monsters or squid-headed people. They do not exist at all.

No Yuan-ti, but what about "Serpent People" as devised by Robert E. Howard (of which Yuan-ti are obviously a rip off)?

There are Serpent People in Green Ronin's Freeport setting, and I believe they are OGC. That said, Freeport's Serpent People are definitly not Yuan-Ti.

The monsters that are not OGL are obviously cool but I think the entire concept of trying to create some kind of bad rip off version for Pathfinder is a flawed idea. Better to let the world evolve on its own. There will, eventually, be cool monsters that achieve traction in the world of Pathfinder which are fan favorites because of their own interesting design elements, history within the setting and artwork. If I have faith in nothing else I have faith that Eric, the James' (they should form a band), and the rest of the crew can get our attention with some cool monsters. They have a great track record in that department - awesome monsters and reinterpretations of monsters populated both AoWs and STAP.
