Oh well. Snick, kobold rogue will be ready soon.

Grand Lodge

Y'know, I was initially a little bit apprehensive about Team Kobold and its prospects, but, man, was I wrong. Sethess is a total beast, and the rest of us are fast, mean and hard to pin down. Kobolds might be a little brittle, but the opposition needs to hit us first... I'm very excited about fielding these little guys!

Here are my revised stats. I've not yet added in the racial mods, but I'll post his sheet in his profile ny tomarrow evening.

Shump my Half-Orc Barbarian is done. So when some is ready to DM a game I've got a character. His stats are in my profile.

Snick here! Its stabbin' time!

Grand Lodge

Snicker-snack! One problem - Weapon Finesse requires base attack +1, and a first level rogue only has +0.

...
Well. I'll be damned.
I hate it when I make a little, yet significant mistake like that. I'll fix it right away. Huh. I even knew that it has that prereq but I took it anyway. I wonder what misfiring nueron caused that?

Grand Lodge

Heh heh. You could just make him a ranger or fighter instead - I kinda doubt we'll be picking a lot of locks.

I could. Yes. I'll take a couple of levels of fighter and then rogue. I'll rework him tonight and get it entered by tomarrow evening. Vatnisse, thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry I posted on the wrong thread. I have a character ready to go and am putting him on my profile asap. Let me know when I need to be ready to rock and roll.

I will be able to post Aldurin's profile this friday or saturday.

Snick, Kobold Fighter reporting for duty!

To be honest, I think doing this with lvl 1 characters doesn't work terribly well. You have a real danger of being taken out with a single hit, as Aldurin demonstrated, and we lost the characters on my side to single blows. This doesn't really allow us to do anything other than last for a couple of rounds.

It didn't help either that our strategy, or lack thereof, was truly dire in lots of ways. But we simply couldn't roll with the blows.

I think we should definitely level up faster that just the regular experience point awards for defeating the four level equivalent opponents.

Maybe something like this
1st win = 2nd level
2nd win = 3rd level
3rd win = 4th level
5th win = 5th level
7th win = 6th level
8th win = 7th level
10th win = 8th level
and every third win you level up from here on out.
What do you think?

Since the arena is all about tactics and feats so I don't think we need to have to fight 4 1st level matches to level up that will take forever.

I thought it worked great, course I am on the team that is WHUPPING YOUR ARSE!!! ;P

Joking, but I do see your point. A starting level of 3 may be better for longevity and would give everyone a bit more tactical options. I kinda don't wanna start any higher though or the deciding factors will be strictly FIREBALL, LIGHTNING BOLT, RAIN DEATH UPON THE WHOLE GROUP!!! and then it starts becoming an initiative war.

Yes, agreed - a few more hit points is the main thing I would favour, not access to Timestop and Wish. While it has probably been great to be on the other side, the encounter was basically over when Shins went down.

However.... We allowed ourselves to get split up (Shins running off to his doom, going so far I couldn't reach him to heal him), Jacyn used the Sleep spell too early so all it did is put them asleep so far away that no one could get there to coup de grace anybody, and we had absolutely no strategy at all. I suspect you guys had no strategy either, but you were lucky and we had nothing to counter it (like organisation). This is, of course, with 20/20 hindsight.

Three crits in a row didn't help, of course. But with more hp it might not have been to total wipe.

I think that, if we do ever start at higher levels, giving each team a few rounds to buff before battle would be good. I mean, at 1st level, it's not such a big deal, but at 10th level, a wizard with no time to activate even his long-term buffs is practically as good as dead. Perhaps allow one round of pre-fight buffing per 3 levels (i.e. 10th level characters get 3 rounds to buff).

Right, after that miserable performance where I was let down by the other members of my team (now deceased) I'm am now recruiting for a new team - Team Haad. I need a sneaky bugger, a robe-wearing wimp who can cast a bit, and a meatshield. Keep it Lawful, keep it Evil. No running around playing the hero, I want discipline, the ability to follow orders and no backchat. Sign below.

Haad Knut, Priest of Hextor

"I will join in your cause Haad, There needs to be a good team to force some discipline and order by any means possible. You make a plan and stick to it damn it, people that don't follow order should have their head separated from their body, no excuses."

"Sadly i will not be in the next one, ive got some business to take care of,hehehe.getting rid of a pest I will be back again though."

Aldurin chants loudly as he is leaving:

"Aldurin, Aldurin, is coming for you,
Aldurin, Aldurin, he will chop... your head off too!
Aldurin, Aldurin, ummmm ..... THE Killer who will be coming back soon! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahhahahahahahahahaahahahhahahaha."

Aldurin head twitches then he is gone

"A very nice speech, but in my experience you Hextorians (said with a sneer) are all talk and no action. When you do decide try to do something you're so inneffective an ancient hatch-mother could beat you to death with her bare hands. It'll be a pleasure to see your head lying on the ground after me and my friends here get done with you."

While the concepts of Good and Evil are, to my mind, largely irrelevant in the arena where one is expected to fight to the death, one cannot argue against the value of strong leadership and unflinching discipline. Thus, I would be honored to serve alongside such an inflexible taskmaster as Haad Knut.

Might I suggest starting a new thread, rather than tacking onto the old one? "The Paizonian Colosseum, Round 2" or something like that.

I agree with Lilith about starting a second thread. I also think that we as Team Kobold should have a discussion of strategy.

Me good good at strater....start...sater..me like plan! Me plan to kill! and maim! and bruise dem real good! Whack! Plan! Me follow plan good!

I will be posting looking for 2 teams to go at in another bout soon. I was considering raising the starting level to 3rd and give a standard action for prep time. Obviously Team Kobold couldn't do my arena bout because I am in Team Kobold but we could wait until someone else runs a bout and join that.
I should probably announce a match tomorrow....
FH

I'd be interested in a 3rd level match. Same rules as before?

"Your doom is now assured, lizard boy."

"Right - I've got a gnome sort-of-wizard bloke and a bloke with a big sword (I suspect he has issues). All I need now is a sneaky bloke and we are ready to kick some scaly kobold butt. Who's with me!?"

Grom and Garash are still looking for a couple of gladiators to round out team orc. We have a barbarian and a druid so far.

The Exchange

Then I shall bring on Gugh, orc rogue. I'll knock up his stats later.

Awesome, welcome to team orc, Gugh!

Close, I think both teams will get a standard action for prep time, no readying actions for when the doors open. Pcs will start at 3rd level (I will need rolls for HP linked from Invisible Castle). In the first round all competitors must move to exit the starting area because at the end of the second round the arena doors close, anyone still in the starting area when the doors close is DQed. The standard starting gold for 3rd level PCs, 2700gp. No one item being worth more than 50% of your starting wealth. Consumables (potions, alchemicals, scrolls, etc) cannot equal more than 25% of a PCs starting gold.

Usable source books include the core 3 (PHB, DMG, and MM1) and the SRD. Monstrous PCs with a level adjustment of +1 are acceptable.
No switching sides in mid-battle. Initiative order will be kept for the entire battle, no rerolls.
I will start a new thread in a bit for players to post their PCs and to organize the teams.

We'll kill you before you know what happened. And then we'll make some nice mammal pie out of you and the scum that makes up your pathetic little team.

"You're just about big enough to make a nice pair of boots - that way, I can grind your lizardy face in the dirt whenever I walk."

How do we resolve potential conflicts of interest? After all, I am also a member of Team Kobold... I honestly don't think it will make a big difference, but it feels a little strange to have a character on each side of the fight.

You are only allowed to run one PC per arena fight. You can be playing in 10 arenas at once but not in 1 arena with 2 PCs.

Part of Vissigoth's rules on page 1.

Hey, ya'll, in my in on this next fight. I'll post my character in character in a bit. Those who wish to join me in bloody victory, please say so. Those who don't... well, it's not good to be you, is it?

Is it too late to join in? Not so much for the 1st game but in general.

This is an ongoing concept. The theory is that there will be several Arenamasters running different fights on different threads all the time.

The need for Gladiators is high. The more fighters we have, the more fights we can run at a time. If you feel up to it you can run a fight as an Arenamaster while competing in another Arenamaster's fight or even in more other fights.
Here is a link to the currently forming fight that I am DMing The Fake Arena
and here is a link to the last arena combat that took place The Paizonian Colloseum run by Vissigoth. Check it out to get a feel for how it all works.
Welcome aboard.

Fake Healer is setting up an arena combat for third level characters here.

oops, too late

"True, I'd make a nice pair of boots. But you'd have to catch me and kill me first. And I assure you that your ineptitude and my skill will conspire to prevent that. You on the other hand, would make an excellent cloak."
Do we have an arena master for team kobold?

The Exchange

Don't have a full Tean Haad yet.

Enough! I do not bandy words with footwear.

Team Kobold (if I follow the thread right) is Snick the fighter, Skeezit the Cleric and Sethess the Barbarian.

Would it be OK if I joined in? or be a reserve if someone else is already part of the team?

Cheers

I believe that Vissigoth is going to be posting sometime after Saturday so hopefully he will run something, and I hope also that some more people decide to take up the mantle of Arenamaster.

WE NEED ARENAMASTERS!!!

FH

I'm going arenamaster at some point soon, but as I'm not going to have regular interent access until the 13th or 14th after tomarrow I can't start one right now.

The Exchange

I might run Aubrey's Arena if people want it. Same rules as Fakey, except the restriction on the cost of items that can be bought will be removed (for a laugh).
