Utak - I have had a go at adapting the concept to Rutania. Over to you when you get a chance.
I have one question
French Wolf,
The answer to your question:
Question, was your profile updated, did it not save?
Shepherd Veirax
Twiceborn is your character coming from Cein? I will be and I figured maybe I could be part of your escort or something since we are part of the same faith and all.
I wasn't planning on him being originally from Cein, but he could certainly have passed through Cein as part of his pilgrimmage to Erian's Glen. It would make sense for Memnon (cool name) to have been part of the escort.
Utak
I just to let Dreamweaver and TwiceBorn know that I have not forgotten about you. I have read through your backgrounds and they both look great. I may have some comments tomorrow. Just too tired tonight.
Also, Amergin & Valegrim, have either of you come up with a definitive concept. Keep me posted.
Cheers,
Utak

Utak, Erian,
In the original draft of my character background (which I had not posted), I initially had the festival of Kagen's Binding take place in Kveld. But then, I wasn't sure if Kveld was actually the name of a town/trade outpost, or if Shelby's Rise was the town (trade outpost?) and Kveld actually the name of the forest...??? So I then switched the festival to Seward... but the latest background info makes Seward seem like a major city, and perhaps too big a place for something like Kagen's Binding to occur?
Utak, what are your thoughts on this? Would Kveld/Shelby's Rise have been a better location than Seward (for Veirax's human upbringing), or would there be small villages outside of Seward (not depicted on the map) that would fit the bill?
I will adjust my background accordingly... And did you like the whole festival idea, or does that need to be changed as well? The festival defines in a significant way the nature of the relationship between elves and humans in northern Rutania, and I don't know to what extent my ideas gelled with your own... I also thought it was fairly novel/original and consistent with the themes you had presented thus far, but...???
Cheers!

I really like your ideas, and I am basically just going to give you some extra info to adjust those thoughts. Very minor though, you have a cool concept, and I want to thank you for adding to the setting. I only have a few moment before I leave for work, but this afternoon, when I get home, I should be able to get you the info you need to complete the background
Thank you for your understanding and patience
Utak
Have to rely on Utak for the specifics, but I assume there are tons of villages all about (one every 2-5 miles in arable lands), with the communities noted on the map being the actually towns and larger i.e. populations greater than 1,000) or sites of particular importance.

Holiday note...I'll be around through today and some tomorrow, but then likely gone through 07/04.
I will try to get through your character tonight and post any questions or comment, pending time and energy. Enjoy the holiday.

TwiceBorn,
I have reviewed the background. Here are a few thoughts.
Just a few minor changes to the first paragraph, and your background will be stellar. The elves are very particular about having only elves in the deep forest, but it is feasible to have a village on the plateau outside of the Deep Forest. Probably to the east of the outpost named Kveld. This village could support your ideas. Since you put so much work into this, if you would like, feel free to name the settlement. If you would like a name though, I will provide one.
Also, you are correct. Seward is fast becoming a big city, but there are always smaller agricultural villages that support the bigger cities. Feel free to add a few names on the map if you like. Again, if you would like names, then I will provide.
Just a thought. To get the elves to originally agree to this tradition. It should be that the elves, through research of certain inscriptions, found that this practice was called for. I will leave the inscriptions open-ended in case you would like to add. Again, I will provide more info if you prefer. Since you have already did so much creative work, I am giving you creative liscense.
Have fun with it and thanks.
Cheers,
Utak

Hey Utak,
Thanks for the feedback and creative freedom. I've gone back and made some modifications to my character background, as per your tips (the changes extend beyond the first paragraph). Let me know if the background warrants additional feats and/or skills.
Now I just have his physical description left to do...

Very close, Utak, and the effort is appreciated. "Je parle francais, un peu" would have been correct... but, all the same, you would have been understood by any French speaker. No offence taken (quite the contrary), but just so you know: "un peu" = a little; "un pou" = one louse (you know, the bug that crawls through peoples' hair)... ;-)
And I'd say that writing French is more difficult than speaking it (alot of silent letters!), so...
Where did you learn French? In school?
Utak
I took french for two years in high school. That was many years ago and never really spoke it fluently, so I am well out of practice. Thanks for the correction. One or two letters really changes the meaning:)

Personal Background Information
No, I live in England not France. And like Utak, I speak the langauge a little. I'm British through and through.
My "handle" came from two nicknames;
1) Wolfie given by my soccer (ehem) football! team after I always wore T-shirts with wolves on whenever we went on tour.
2) Frenchie passed on by friends in the UK RPGA after I ended up always having to play the french PC at conventions. We even once randomly drew (from six different nationalities) PC's for a Call of Cthulhu game and I got the french spy.
Having said all of that I ought to put the record straight and state that the best team of players I have had the privilege to DM in the last year all came from Paris and they truely rocked through a Living Greyhawk scenario.
Vive La France aussi!

Utak I made the small changes in my background and I should be all ready.
I am excited to be part of this one and I can't wait to see what you have instore for us, the setting is pretty awesome so far.
Excellent,
Thanks for the compliments. I have not had a chance to review stats yet. The week caught up with me, and a nap was called for.
Dreamweaver, how is Nani's druid coming along?
Also, sending a shout out to Amergin and Valegrim regarding character concepts. Are you both still interested in playing.
OK, and for everyone.
Erian_7 and I have been in email contact regarding maps. He is doing an excellent job and making my rather illogical ideas, well, logical. A big shout out of thanks to him. I believe he is putting the finishing touches on and may have something up on our forum early in the week.
And...
After reviewing the stats of the 4 characters that I have done, and then receiving the 3 others, we should be set. Because of an important holiday on Wednesday for us US ian's, I am hoping to kick the game off with an initial post maybe Thursday, if things go as planned. Then throughout the weekend will be player rolepay time before the DM, moi, make something silly happen.
On that note, once you all see the map, give me a shout out of where you will be at nighttime, after your first day there. (ie: Inn, Worship Hall, Druid Circle, personal residence, visiting a friend) If you would like some ideas, just ask. Maybe tomorrow I will do a small text description of the major establishments, then you can see them all visually when the map is ready.
Enjoy the weekend. Weather is great is PA, hope it is nice where you reside.
Cheers,
Utak

I know I know I am the last to be done with my background but yes at last I am done. We have been busy not having our kids with us for the first time since I had the little one so we have been doing everything that we can. We actually got to see a movie, "Evan Almighty" without having two grumpy kids with us. Let me know what else I need to do as I still don't have a clue what comes next. :)
Thanks

Are you sure you havn't done this before? I read over your background, and I thought it was great. You did a great job giving feeling and substance to Aradove. My plan is to review your stats later today and then get back to you with extra goodies.
I hope you enjoyed making your first character, and I hope you will enjoy your first D&D experience.
PS- I hope you enjoyed your break from the little ones.

Major Locations in Erian's Glen.
Erian_7 will be providing a beautiful map within the next few days, but I wanted to give you a text version of some of the places so you can decide where you will be on the night of your arrival in Erian's Glen.
Erian's Rest (Inn) - Main inn as you enter from the North Gate. This is a huge, multi-level establishment catering to all.
Oakleaf Inn - (provided courtesy of French Wolf, not currently on the map, but located on the inside corner of Goldleaf Walk and Goldleaf Blvd.) This is a smaller inn catering to a high-end, sophisticated (and wealthy) crowd.
Delver's - A large tavern mainly catering to the miner's of Erian's Glen.
Cenwalh's Mill - A large tavern mainly catering to the lumberjacks of Erian's Glen.
Rine's - Main smithy in Erian's Glen.
Ardith's Blades - Main weapons dealer.
Dashes & Dust - Main alchemy shop.
Trade 'N Barter - Main general store.
Gimm's Fine Gems - Main jeweler.
Dealer's Bargain - Merchant guildhouse where negotiations, contracts, and licenses are made, agreed upon, and approved.
Three Worship Halls - (See map for locations) The Country of Rutania, though the citizens may not realize it, is in the beginning stages of a major separation between the classes (ie: upper, middle, lower). The Worship Hall at the corner of Hamia's Passage and Freya's Lane is used mainly by travelers staying at Erian's Rest, the druids, and the lumberjacks residing in the community dorms on the east side of Erian's Glen. The Worship Hall on Goldleaf Blvd. attracts the more affluent that live in the mansions and patrons of the Oakleaf Inn. The Worship Hall located by Market Square caters to the middle class residents, minors living in the west side community dorms, and patrons from the various smaller inns and taverns around Market Square and throughout the residential section of Erian's Glen.
Druid's Circle & GoldLeaf Forest - Provides natural shelters for rangers and druids seeking such accomodations.
Erian's Glen Community Building - Located off the main road (Erian's Way) in the GoldLeaf Forest, Created for the purpose of conducting town meetings, to establish laws & policy, hold court, and settle disputes. This building also houses a small prison in its basement floors.
Abrecan's Horses - Main community stables and seller of fine horses from Solania and Sheldon.
Market Square - A huge open market that holds carts, wagons, stalls, and permanent establishments where many items can be traded and purchased.
Keep in mind that the residential area also houses many small shops, taverns, inns, etc.
If you would like discretion and want your character to find a room or drink in a smaller establishment, just let me know and I will provide names and details.
Also, if you notice that I may have missed something, give me a shout so I may add it to Erian's Glen.
Thanks Again & Cheers,
Utak

Utak,
Great list! Shepherd Veirax will bo found at the following location upon his arrival in Erian's Glen:

For TwiceBorn,
Quick item. Your 'languages known' are not showing in your profile. You probably put them in the text box, but for some reason Paizo has a glitch, and the language text box does not show in the saved profile.
Also, Add 5 Action Points. (will explain these in a post shortly after I am done with this one)
You requested the "Smatterings" feat. Ask and you shall receive. I must admit you may not find use of this feat until later in the campaign, but I will make a point to add something so you can use it.
You were also looking for additional skill points. Since you live close to a city like Seward, it is possible that you received some formal education there. Therefore, you will also receive the "Education" feat from the Eberron CS. This feat allows all Knowledge skills as class skills and you get a +1 bonus on any two knowledge skills.
Also, life on the road is hard so you get the "Self-Sufficient" Feat as well.
For such a nice job and current participation: 500 XP
Looks like you are running low on funds: Early in your journey to Erian's Glen, one of the guards protecting a merchant in the caravan of pilgrims fell off a horse when it was startled and bucked. The guard broke his arm. You were able to heal it, and the merchant awarded you 50 GP. You have since, gained that spell back through prayer.
Thanks again for the work and participation.
Cheers.

On Action Points:
From the Eberron Campaign setting. You can use an action point to add 1d6 to any d20 roll. You get so many action points per level, and they are to be used within that level on a use or lose basis. You can roll a d20 first and then decide to use an action point or not. The only time I require the decision to use an action point before you roll the d20 is if the DC is already provided.
Let me know if there are any questions on this.
Cheers.
Utak
For Erian_7,
FYI: Don't forget to add 5 Action Points to your character.
500 XP
From the Eberron CS: The "Educated" feat, but I adjusted & improved it for your character since he has had an extensive formal and practical education. All knowledge skills are class skills and you get 6 skill points to add to your knowledge checks.
Weapon Focus: Longbow
Weapon Focus: Long sword
For his hands on training with guards
"Alertness" feat - important skills his father taught him on journeys
Cheers
Utak
For French Wolf,
FYI: Don't forget to add 5 Action Points
500 XP
"Open-Minded" Feat (per your request)
Lady Janas went through quite an ordeal. To make her tougher, she also gets the:
"Toughness" Feat
"Great Fortitude" Feat
Cheers

Please confirm this: Looking through the thread it looks like Lady Janas, Shepherd Veirax, Erian, and Memnon are traveling with the same caravan. Is this agreeable with everyone, or did anyone have a different plan. Aradove could also be a part of this caravan, if she chooses. From a discussion with TwiceBorn, we have his character Shepherd Veirax arriving with a large caravan.
Thanks,
Utak

How you came to be with the caravan is all pre-adventure. We will start with the caravan arriving in the city. It will be up to the individual players to decide if their characters meet during the trip or not. It is quite a large caravan, so it is possible the characters still never met. You may all discuss this if you like. If you want to roleplay any pre Erian's Glen caravan journey, then I can set up the gaming thread early. If not, you will all eventually meet during your stay in Erian's Glen. That is my job with your assistance.
Just let me know if you would like the thread early.
Cheers,
Utak

I think I at least would have met Memnon, given that he's a knight who serves the same deity that Veirax worships.
I'm neutral on the pre-adventure roleplaying... part of me thinks it might be easier if we just begin with whatever you have in mind, but I'm willing to go with anything...

Erian also follows the same deity pending his attendance in the same caravan and his agreement, of course.

ok; I would like to play a Spellthief; never played one and seems kinda neat; something new, but still with rogue abilities; OK, yes or no? Seems like a bit of a mage killer that would probably not have the prejudice from most peeps about being a theif of goods though he/she could certainly do that.
As for the caravan; who better than a repudable rogue to guard a merchants important stuff; maybe as a bodyguard who has the spot to notice if anyone tries to steal from him; might perhaps have annoyed someone in one city and joined the caravan as a personal bodyguard to a merchant as a comfortable way to leave town; meet new people, see new places. The merchant would hire me as a specialist to ensure his goods are not tampered with or perhaps if they are; to use contact to regain his goods. Am thinking that sort of thing; but am good with anything. Would be posing as a security specialist :)
Am thinking I would be from Aldan's Wall the son of a modestly wealthy merchant who wife makes low level potions for sale; have a background in magic, but disliked all the study and books were to cumbersome for my lively lifestyle; the mage life seemed to booring and the merchant life made me feel much like a sheep waiting for the wolves to attack; Doing some teenage thrill seeking; I became a member of the thieves guild; if you have one that is; got training with them to steal magic items and deal with casters if caught in the act. If you dont have a guild; then got recruited by an old man; who had a lot of contacts and who was a spelltheif; not as nimble as he used to be; he started going into the fence business; saw some qualities in me; started "procuring" goods for him; he started teaching me the trade; I like the old guy; so started hanging out with him more than my own family; perhaps they want to do an intervention and save me from my erstwhile ways; either with the guild or the old man; and I just decided to leave and hired on to the caravan as a security specialist.
anyway; I see peeps have made up characters; how are we rolling stats? or what meathod are we using?

A spellthief sounds really cool. This is turning into an interesting party of adventurers. Let me know when the character and background are complete in your profile. If you can, try to tie him into the setting with a cool hook for later use in the campaign. Remember, all magic has been learned from these inscriptions found, so your background should mention something regarding this.
Thanks.
