Guys,
Just a bit of advice that you can take or leave as you like. Your characters are, for the first time together, in a position where they have the opportunity to talk freely. The Axe and Anvil is where shady characters in town come to get deals done and you can assume a certain level of both privacy and discretion. If you would like further of either, you can go to the room that is still available to you. While I ask for some suspension of disbelief in getting all of you to stay together, I wouldn't want to entirely skip the part where you connect. You met each other on the street a few minutes ago and would likely make good companions, but may want to know a bit more about each other. In addition there may be more conversation regarding recent events worth having as some of you have varied observations of the events. In any case, it is just a thought. If you want to move forward out of the bar at this point you can do so as well.
Crimson Conquest DM |
Nice character development. I suspect you guys will see that be helpful in the near future.
As an fyi, I will probably be on once more late tonight and then tomorrow I may not see the boards until nearly Midnight. This week is a bit crazy. Other than tomorrow, I still think I can manage 2-3 times today, but tomorrow is unlikely.
I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of our story.
Now off to run my PnP game. Wahoo!
Crimson Conquest DM |
Thank you for the compliment Utak. Hopefully things will continue to go well.
As a note, I have to fly to NJ and back tomorrow. Since I will be getting up at 3:30am *shudder* I will probably not be able to post again until tomorrow night or possibly even Saturday depending on how tired I am when I fly back. Hopefully I will have a good shot at a job offer though.
thank you guys for your efforts. Good character development. And don't worry, the action will come. It takes longer in a PbP and also I tend towards lots of role playing. You action junkies will have your turn though. I promise. :)

I, also, am enjoying our little game immensely. The DM is describing scenes with great verisimilitude, enabling us to really get into the setting. I like the recent post about the older guard and his lack of upward mobility, despite his well manicured chain shirt and waterfall shield.
Great job by my fellow players, as well. In some ways, I think the PbP helps character development as I don't have to overcome the base fact that a PC is actually a friend of mine sitting across the table from me. The fact that it is something of an anonymous mode of playing allows me to think of, for instance, Guudwyn as just Guudwyn and not Utak eating Cheetos. Thanks for everyones participation so far, it has made for an excellent first time PbP for me. I am looking forward to this lasting quite a while.
Before everyone starts imagining Guudwyn with orange powdered lips from his enormous Cheetos habit, let me clearly state that I don't know Utak, or his love or hatred of the cheesy puffed snack food. It was used merely hypothetically. As for me, I prefer Funyons. Any snack food based on the onion...well...is, in my mind, perfect.

Thanks Magnus. As you well know, description is not my strong suit. :)

Oh, you meant you thought he was eating them? I get it now. ;p
Less interesting though. :)Utak |
I am more of a doritoes man myself. Still get cheesy fingers, though.
That whole cheetoe comment made me role. I just got in from some major lawn work. I am beat. I looked over the game thread, but I am too tired to come up with a descent response. Like Shamgar, I also wake up quite early (2:30 EST). I am going to crash, get my 4.5 hours sleep. I will post something coherent as soon as I can tomorrow.
Shamgar, what part of Jersey? I live in Pennsylvania, but I am on the border. I actually work in Jersey.

Yeah don't worry about the action I know it will come and I love the character development and getting to know the town before we cause to much trouble and have to leave or something.
For my first Pbp I am having a blast so keep doing what your doing I am having fun just using my skills and interacting with the other players.
I definitely agree with Magnus it does make it easier to role play when as far as I know Rasmus really is red with horns and not just some body across from me. Ignorants is bliss in this case.
Magnus Magnusson |
Shamgar's flight back from New Jersey got cancelled due to stormy skies and some sort of power outage at the airport. He is stuck there til tomorrow at the earliest. No laptop, no cell phone charger, smoking room at the hotel (sham is a vehement non-smoker), none of his psychotropic meds that he uses to help him delineate reality from the dark world in his mind, etc. If he is in as bad of a mood when he gets back as he was when I talked to him an hour ago, I'm thinking TPK for us.
At any rate, we shouldn't be expecting a post from him til Sat or Sun.
Utak |
I'm thinking TPK for us.
Guudwyn runs and hides.
That sucks. If I knew what airport, I might feel compelled to run out and pick him up and give him a good non-smoking house for the night. We also have a smaller airport 5 minutes from my home. I could see it now. I would be walking around with a sign that says SHAMGAR and shoving it in everyone's face. Because I really do not know what he looks like. SECURITY!

Utak, I wish you had. This has been a miserable day to tell the truth. I suppose I can threadjack my own thread right?
I am currently in what is laughingly called the 'business center' of my hotel with 'high' *ahem* speed internet.
After my interviews today I went back to LaGuardia and after checking in and getting to the gate discovered that all flights to MI were cancelled for tonight for all airlines. Many other flights were also cancelled. They said it was due to weather, which conveniently allowed them to pay for nothing. I was told later that one of the air traffic control computers crashed so they rerouted and didn't fly stuff. Oopsie.
Fortunately the people I interviewed with were awesome and found me a flight for tomorrow and got me the last seat (2:22pm flight). The next available flight due to this mess is Sunday evening--for now. Not sure what I am gonna due if they delay it again tomorrow. So anyway, the company foots the $300 bill for what should be a $79 hotel and gets me the last hotel anywhere near the airport. Sadly, its a smoking room and I have severe allergies to smoking and of course no medicine with me. Oh, did I mention that I have no change of clothes, toiletries, stuff to do, etc adn that there is nothing on TV. And since there is one computer in the business center I have to share so can only use it for a few minutes at a time.
Anyway the good part (I think) is that I got to walk around NYC a bit and having never been here, liked it quite a bit. It is big city in a different way than DC where I lived for 4 years. I went to a crazy/frightening little (and I do mean little) chinese place on 39th and then had my first experience with a real live street vendor for a kebob.
Well, now that I have ranted, I suppose it has helped a bit. Thanks for reading if you did. Sorry for the blatant threadjack. Not sure if I'm up to (or have the material with me to do) posting on the main thread. Assuming I get home tomorrow I'll be up to date before Sunday is over.
Thank you all for understanding. You are doing a great job!
I may be on later, but honestly I hope to be asleep. I'll probably look in for a minute before heading to the airport *again* in the am.
Have a great night.
Crimson Conquest DM |
Thanks for the offer Utak. Thankfully it wasn't necessary. Thanks for the good wishes and thoughts to the rest of you as well.
Fortunately the weather held, there were no more computer glitches, and I was thusly able to get home, get a shower and a *much* needed change of clothes and some family time. I'm exhausted but in a much better frame of mind.
I should be able to get the updates on the main thread up tomorrow. Small chance it will happen tonight, but I seem to be losing steam.
Onward with the story. Time to see what happens now that Xanros has disappeared around a corner into an alley all alone... :)
Crimson Conquest DM |
Xanros: I've been thinking about that. I think it might be more pain than not to do that even though it would be more realistic. I think I'll just post in the open like I have been what happens but keep
On another topic, I have been bombarded this weekend while trying to catch up from my not so intentional stay in NYC this past weekend. Combine that with a truly challenging first couple days of this week and it means I'm a bit behind. I apologize. I hope to be caught up here tomorrow (Monday) and will definitely be so by Tuesday afternoon at the latest. Ugh. It's amazing how losing 1.5 days can ruin the next 5 or so. And that's nothing to say of the wedding that my wife, my boy, and I are all in this coming weekend a few hours away. *ugh* What fun.
I promise promise promise to be back on top of my game in a day or so guys. My bad.

I just relieved that I should probably roll for the Cold Steel knowledge. How 'public' is Cold Steel? Are they a group that openly opposes the nation of Ildonia or are they a covert group that stays out of the headline I guess you could say?
Much more the second. They are widespread but limited in both numbers and public knowledge. Your character might have heard rumors of them while in military training. In that case, you would have heard that they were awful, evil people who were out to destroy the 'good' Dreskanen name (though the truth might be somewhat the opposite in point of fact :). You would know that they are a chaotic good group (the polar opposite of Dreskana) with some lawful members. You would know that their rankings are shown by a number of circles etched into their weapons or armor leading up to the leaders who have the 'full circle' of leadership. You have heard that they work in secrecy, but it could be that the people they work against just don't want others to know about and therefore rally around them. There have been rumors of their presence in Ildonia, especially in the last few years. Most recently you heard a rumor that one of their kind might be in Barren Falls and (per your backstory) you were trying to make contact with that person. (If I'm remembering incorrectly, please let me know). In the short time you have been in town, there has as of yet been no contact.
Dreamweaver |
Well that make me feel a little better ...a little bit:)
I was thinking Xanros having been raised in Dreskana is probably more Dreskanen than he likes to admit and so I was wondering what type of relationship do Dreskana and Ildonia have? Are they allies or enemies fighting each other openly or covertly? I am just wondering what type of attitude Xanros should have towards this country.

well, they aren't and haven't been openly at war though both maintain strong militaries. The only border they share is in mountains and across a big river so isn't really desirable. They also are quite different: lawful v. chaotic for example though they are both primarily human. They both allow slavery though brutality in such is more common in Ildonia. Overall Ildonia would probably be considered not an enemy but also not a current ally. They have worked together a bit in the past, but 'the emperor' in Ildonia would rather take everyone over and that has a tendency to lose allies after a time. :) Hope that helps.
Note for Magnus: He designed the character to sound exactly like he is writing him per the history and is doing a nice job. Magnus is certainly a bit more 'down to earth' than that--though just about as funny looking. :)
Crimson Conquest DM |
Hey, just wondering, is Boehler still with us?
Good question. I was wondering the same thing. Based on his posting frequency and content (or rather lack thereof) it seems to not be a match for him or us at this moment. He hasn't officially left, but he hasn't really participated at all either. I've been moving on in a manner that makes it not as relevant, but I'll have to come to a conclusion regarding that issue soon.
Boeler, any feedback? If you want to play, I'm glad to have you. That said, if you stay, I need far more input from you. Let us know.
Crimson Conquest DM |
Well if Boeler isn't going to continue I might have someone to replace him , I can find out by Monday and that will give Boeler more time to decide if he wants to continue. I for one hope he does so if you are out there don't be afraid to just let your character talk and interact.
I would also like Boeler to continue and truly engage but from the lack of response it looks like that is not meant to be.
If Boeler has indeed opted out, as it appears, I'm not sure we need to replace the character. What do you guys think? We meet the four main roles as is, the game moves a bit faster (when I actually post--man this week has been a mess) with four, and the group seems to be beginning to gel. That said, I am here for you guys and your opinion on this shall rule: Would you guys want a replacement character or to continue on as is? Vote!
On another note, I am getting ready to post updates on the main thread and, due to a wedding, may or may not have internet for the weekend. I will certainly be able to post by late Sunday night, but the rest will depend on me finding a dial-up connection in the middle of nowhere Michigan. Have a great weekend.
Oh, and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!! (To those of you that are)
Dreamweaver |
Would you guys want a replacement character or to continue on as is? Vote!
I think we have all the major roles covered so no we probably don't need another person, let just keep going. So far this rocks and would like to keep this pace up but I too will probably not be able post much over the weekend either so I will see you guys on Sunday night.
Crimson Conquest DM |
I understand being very busy--trust me I do.
Please make a real effort to post both consistently and substantially. Interact with the people and things around you. Contribute to group discussions. Share your character's thoughts. Just be involved. That is the strength of PbP games, from what I can see.
Glad to see you.
Utak |
Glad to hear from you Boeler. If possible, just set aside 15 minutes a day and read over the game. We usually end each post with a question or some type of action. To let us know that you are at least out there, quick throw in a good ol' Boeler response / answer / movement. Also, when you have the time, type up stuff that Boeler wants to do. Think over the questionaire that we all filled out. What motivates Boeler? Why is he staying with our party? What does he think of the other characters? Just a few thoughts. Glad to have you with us.
Utak |
Hey Magnus, I must say, I totally get lost in your descriptive posts. Mead, sun & shadow, now a woodworked chair, it reminds me of reading Tolkien's description of Minas Tirith. I have gathered that you are an artist. Do you also write fiction? If not, and writing interests you which I gather it does, you should consider writing of Rasmus. I am already hooked on this character. Heck, look what a drow elf did for Salvatore.
Happy Writing,
Utak
Boeler Widsend |
Boeler stands near Rasmus quite confused, not being the best of listeners he only has a dim grasp on what is going on. He turns to Rasmus and tugs at his Whatever he is wearing. Who is this baron fellow? Are we concerned with him? Who are we trying to talk to? Just so you guys know I won't have any access to a computer for two days(I would posted this on the discussion thread but there was an error).
Magnus Magnusson |
Thanks a lot for the compliment, Utak, always nice to hear. i do enjoy posting as a devil child that has no idea he's a devil. Writing for any length sounds too tough. I'm way too visual. Plus, I like the muck of painting, the color on my hands, charcoal under my fingernails, etc. Can't get that from a keyboard unless its really dirty.
I am really enjoying Guudwyn's posts as well. I am guessing that you're a creative player tactically and diplomatically in a PnP game. loved it when you told the stutterer that the boy that got only one silver should run the errand. Very cool.
