Glad to hear you have 80% good taste! ;-)

I tend to enjoy a pretty wide range of music, and I think my tastes have become a lot broader over the years - there are genres I listen to now that I wouldn't have dreamed I'd enjoy ten or fifteen years back.

I've been listening to "Team Glarg beneath the towers" by Dr. G and the Range Shadows found here.

It has been on repeat for four hours whilst I am doing session prep.

Brilliant theme/mood music for a dungeon crawl.

In service,

The Original Dr. Games since 1993

Sonic Youth--EVOL

I never had this one before and it's not as immediately awesome as Daydream Nation or Goo, probably due to the lack of real hard-core rockers. But it's growing on me.

Shadow of a Doubt which gets bonus points for mentioning not one, but two Hitchcock films!

Shadow Lodge

It's not country, but I have Murder By Death on heavy rotation.

I've got a whole campaign idea based off "Who Will Survive, And What Will Be Left Of Them?"

Come to think of it, there's not much hip hop, either.

Honestly I don't know what year this stuff is but I like it! My musical tastes have generally been alternative rock and being that hipster who listens to "bands you probably never heard of." My friend is in a jam band and I can definitely hear how Phish and the dead have major influences over them.

On a related note, I can totally hear how the monks influenced so many bands (I'm looking at you- the white stripes)

Oh, nice to meet you. I was in the International Underground Hipster Elite (Boston Lodge) for a while back before I got old.

Pitchfork had an article a whiles back where they jokingly wrote about the Rules of Musical Appreciation Development and just after Step 5: Realizing That Not All Reggae Sounds the Same was Step 6: Realizing The Dead Are Awesome (or something like that).

They were great.

Black Monk Time is a fantastic album. I remember playing it loudly back when my roommate was kissin' on some girl (this was back in my youth, when such things happened) and they made me turn it off 'cuz it was ruining their mood! Hee hee!

Nice to meet you, as well, good sir. I find myself in good company in this thread. That's a shame your roommate and his lady-friend couldn't take a time-out of their kissing session to appreciate good music!

I don't typically visit pitchfork that much but that article sounds pretty hysterical. My google-fu is weak tonight and I can't seem to find it. I guess I have something to do at work tomorrow.

@Mothman I just listened to Mr Little Jeans cover of the suburbs and let me tell you: just listening to that song gives me that visceral feeling of driving your car down the highway by yourself with the windows down breathing in that cool, just-rained air.

My friend just informed me of this band and it was love at first riff.

It was just something a writer mentioned in passing; it wasn't really an article about the Rules of Musical Appreciation Development.

EDIT: Oh yeah, now I remember: it was an article about the worst album covers of all time, for which Terrapin Station was on the list.

I actually listen to both, just in somewhat smaller quantities than I do things like hardcore punk.

In fact, I was just listening to some hip-hop* and some country this morning.

You'll see some hip hop scattered here and there through my play lists.

To be fair, it's mainly Australian hip hop, and probably not very recognisable outside the country (or inside for that matter).

How many of those are Australian hip-hop?

Drapht?

Gotye?

Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip?!?

It's like you're posting from a different dimension!

The Beatles--Let It Be

The only Beatles album that isn't great, and that's probably because it was posthumously released by the record company. Of course, being The Beatles, it's still pretty good.

And, yeah, I could do without "The Long and Winding Road" and "Across the Universe" I can take or leave, but there's some pretty great shiznit there, too.

Get Back

I've Got a Feeling

One After 909

As for "Let It Be," for me it's up there with "Stairway to Heaven" and "Freebird" as great songs that I always wish I could skip to the second half of.
