So my girlfriend gave me season 1 of the most excellent American show Boston Legal, the only legal show I've ever enjoyed even in the slightest. It's great. One of the best things about it (besides Shatner and Spader in the same show) is that the characters are very well drawn and deep. We started after a few episodes trying to guess what alignments the characters would be if they were in D&D, and it's actually very challenging.

At first we decided Alan Shore (James Spader) was Lawful Evil, because he didn't seem to care about hurting people's feelings and he is a lawyer, but then we realized he is actually the opposite of that. He must be Chaotic Good as he routinely breaks the law if there is what he thinks is a compelling moral reason to do so. He just doesn't care about rules where ethics are at stake and he encourages others to break them too.

The old boss man, Schmidt, we thought was Lawful Neutral, but as the series goes on we're starting to think he's a very crabby Lawful Good. Many of the characters are perfect examples of good people who don't appear to be good, and have personalities ripe for stealing and using for friendly NPCs to avoid that "LG is boring, CG is predictable" factor.

Anyone else watch this show? We haven't even tried to give Denny Crane an alignment yet...

Dude, that's one of my favourite shows, one of the best shows on tv at the moment IMHO (even though they're only showing reruns at best at the moment) ... proabably after Battlestar Galactica.

Yeah, I'd put Alan as CG I think. Danny ... maybe CN, but thats probably a cop out. Hard to pick.

Oh, and I don't think the old guy is Schmidt, you'll meet Schmidt in another season or two...

I think Denny Crane is Lawful Denny.

Denny Crane!

Hey you're right. Schmidt is the lady right? What's the old guy called? I know he's called Paul but that's it...

Lewiston (I didn't really know to be honest, googled).

Yep, Shirly Schmidt.

And I just looked at my last post and realised I wrote Danny rather than Denny!

My wife loves this show and I've seen it a few times because of her enjoyment of it and I think it's a good show. Shatner is perfect.

This show is great. I Season Pass it. My girlfriend hates it because it is too mainstream (not that she's ever watched it), but it makes me laugh.

Got my BL fix last night.

Good stuff.

I just about died laughing when Denny Crane was being sued, and when it looked like he might lose the case, stated that at least he'd still be undefeated, since he wasn't representing himself.

My wife and I ran across BL late one night and after seeing one episode The halloween episode where parents were sueing a school) we set it to record ever since. She and her father have a nickname for Alan Shore . . . Little Denny. I personally can't see it, but they insist that Big Denny (Shatner of course), and Little Denny look alike.

Sometimes I wish they'd concentrate more on the cases they are working on rather than "Who's sleeping with Who" schtick, but it's still a great show.
