elemental animal companion

Rules Questions

Would an earth elemental be considered biped so they have access to all slots? Would i still need to take extra item to give them more slots? They would start with what neck and belt?

Is that an animal companion with the elemental companion archetype, or do you have some means of getting an actual elemental as an animal companion? They're not the same thing.

Also, is this for PFS or not? PFS has some house rules on magic item slots for animal companions IIRC which it sounds like you might be using.

Edit: ah, a stonelord paladin for PFS. As to whether an earth elemental is a biped, smaller earth elementals are usually animal-ish in shape, larger ones are often humanoid in shape. I'm not sure on the detail of how those house rules on item slots work or even if they apply here, sorry.

ues its for a stonelord paladin. They get an earth elemental in lieu of a mount. Was hoping someone could give me guidance on what i can equip it with, if anything.

They start with int 4, unlike an animal so i wonder if they would have normal slots like a magical beast?

Paizo has steadfastly refused to clarify slots and the like for the standard elementals. It's strictly in GM fiat territory--probably by design--and may vary from elemental to elemental.

Hm maybe ask my flgs venture captain?

What magic item slots would a standard elemental lack?

Having looked over the FAQ last night, I think it falls into "depends on what shape it is". Small humanoid should be all, but 4 legged mount not so much.

Yeah, that's probably your best bet. I don't even know how much control you have over the elemental's shape. It's much easier when it's a monster and the GM can just arbitrarily pick whether the earth elemental is humanoid-shaped. On the one hand, you have the Bestiary "description to players" text on your side:

Bestiary wrote:
This hulking, roughly humanoid creature of dirt and stone explodes up from the earth, faceless save for two glowing gemstone eyes.

But the actual monster description has more:

Bestiary wrote:
Most earth elementals look like terrestrial animals made out of rock, earth, or even crystal, with glowing gemstones for eyes. Larger earth elementals often have a stony humanoid appearance.

So most--but not all--smaller earth elementals are animal-shaped. A stonelord's celestial stone servant is anything but typical, though. Does a stonelord have the ability to determine the shape of their servant? The rules don't say.

Larger elementals get reach as if they were bipeds, so I assume that they are bipeds for most purposes.

I would assume that, since they increase in size, the smallest size would have the "stony humanoid appearance" that it would have when it got bigger.

It should have simple weapon proficiency as well, since it's a humanoid elemental.
