obscure web comics

Off-Topic Discussions

I thought it would be interesting to have a thread in which members can post their favorite obscure web comics (not necessarily RPG related).

I'll start off with a new project started by one of my players and close personal friends:

Drake Emko is also known for his previous project Hackles:

Paizo Employee Director of Sales

Chopping Block.

Because serial killers are people, too.

WARNING: *MATURE* content.

Scarab Sages

I've had a soft-spot for VGCats for a long time. It does occasionally/frequently have swearing, mature themes, and pixilated cartoon nudity. And although they primarily make fun of video games, they touch on D&Das well. AND, they can teach you about industry history!

Not toooo many "obscure" ones, but I do enjoy Drow Tales - Chronicles of a Moonless Age. *MATURE* Really need to start at the beginning, it's a fairly complicated storyline.

Because I have a cat that acts like this: http://www.twolumps.net/

And in New York no one can hear you scream:

hellbound is strange and funny, just read it.

The B-Movie comic is just that: a B-Movie done comic-style.

Death and the Maiden is a very special interpretation of that ages-old theme... :-)

Twisted...

But hilarious!

My S.O. and I are cat lovers, and I have to say, this strip captures everything we presumed was going on in our cats' heads, even down to the intelligent cynical strategist who we think communicates with her mothership while she stares off into nothing and the fat, lazy, clumsy dumb cat who has spontaneous bursts of hunting instincts and relentlessly wants food and "pettins."

I recently started reading

http://www.scarygoround.com/

Its not directly RPG related but can be just generally weird

Dork Tower; a must for rpgers
Full Frontal Nerdity, and no this is not a porno site
the Flintlock comic for Warhammer on Gamespy comics section; pretty funny if you have played the game.

the Homesites for each of these has great stuff too if you boored. You can read all of these at work with no bad flags that will get you in trouble; FFN sometimes has obscure funny stuff links but gives warnings. have fun

Here are ones I check regularly

Order of the Stick (of course)

Goblins
http://goblinscomic.com/

Chronicles of Garas
http://www.chroniclesofgaras.com/

Seraph Inn
http://www.seraph-inn.com/

Achewood isn't so much "obscure" any more, but it's pretty good in its own distinctive style.

xkcd is "A webcomic of romance,
sarcasm, math, and language".

Strippy Comics hasn't updated in a while but amuses me with its particular brand of humour.

White Ninja

Toothpaste For Dinner is another oddball comic.

WARNING*** Dirty words alert!

Juggernaut is not too obscure...referenced in the newest Xmen movie (Ratner really likes it, I guess). Some funny shiznit!

WARNING: *MATURE* content.
Also, if you can find them...the Fenslerfilm versions of the 80s GIJOE "Knowing is half the battle" PSAs they used to run after the main feature are friggin hilarious! The got stopped by HASBRO for naughty content and copyright law-breaking, but they are out there...

END OF DIRTY WORD WARNINGS

Homestar Runner and pals is an amazing way to spend a few days surfing around and catching all the pop-culture references. They even have a couple parodies of games like Temple of Apshai and those other old 'textbased' games ...

"You are in a dank room. There is a flask on the floor. Dripping sounds come from the east. A pit blocks the north door. The obvious exits are:

A: East
B: North
C: Steve
D: Get ye flask"

and like that.

You can see these at http://www.ebaumsworld.com/gijoe.html

They're really random, but if you like and understand, "internet humor" (in the vein of the Chuck Norris jokes), you should love these. I've known about these for years, and still get a kick out of them.

Well, I'm not sure how many of these qualify as "obscure," but here's my list. Those comics prefixed with (*) have potentially offensive themes. The rest should be pretty safe, but I can of course give no guarantee. Links marked (rp) contain material you could rip directly into your D&D game:

(*) Something Positive
Misfile
PvP
Crtl Alt Del
8-bit Theatre (rp - in a twisted sort of way)
Sluggy Freelance (rp)
User Friendly
9th Elsewhere (rp)
Closet Gamers (rp)
Nodwick & Full Frontal Nerdity (rp)
Tales of the Questor (rp)
Paradox Lost
Dominic Deegan (rp)
No Rest For the Wicked (rp)
No Pink Ponies
El Goonish Shive
(*) Girly
Scary Go Round
(*) VG Cats
Megatokyo
Flipside (rp)
Applegeeks
(*) Chugworth Academy
(* current arc only) Penny and Aggie
Comedity
Candi
(*) Underpower (rp)
Zap! (rp)
Dr. McNinja
Metrophor (rp)
Penny Arcade
The Wotch: Cheer!
Marsh Rocket
Order of the Stick (rp)
The Pet Professional
Alpha Shade (rp)
Inverloch (rp)
Van Von Hunter (rp)
No Need for Bushido
Dungeon Crawl, Inc. (rp)

Yeah, I know, it's somewhat of a large list. Normally I have it organized by the day of week each one updates on.

Lol; be on any thread long enough and an over achiever to put the rest of us to shame will show up; hehe that last post was inspired way above and beyond the call; Kudos to you.

Probably the only webcomic The Koga really likes, all others just give him something to do.

Pete introduced The Koga to this comic cause he said it reminded him of us.
