With Gencon only two weeks away, I thought I would post to see who from the Paizo staff gets to go this year. It was really cool last year meeting the people who turn out the two greatest mags in the world, Dungeon and Dragon. I'm really looking forward to seeing who is there this year.
Also, if you could respond with any adventures you have written and which issue they were in, I would really like to bring them to get signed. I know that I could just look back through the issues but, hey, it's easier if you guys just tell us.
Thanks

Erik Mona, Jason Bulmahn, Jeremy Walker, Wes Schneider, and myself will be at Gen Con (barring any unforseen developments). We'll be hosting four seminars (Writing for Dragon, Writing for Dungeon, What's New with Paizo Publishing, and Getting in on the Adventure Path), and we'll all be pulling shifts at the booth between seminars. I'm pretty sure at least one of us will be at the booth at any one time, but I haven't seen the schedule yet...
As for adventures we've had appear in the magazine, I believe this is the current roster:
Erik Mona: "The Whispering Cairn," "Diamond Lake" (#124); "Maure Castle" (additional material, #112)
Jason Bulmahn: "Mad God's Key" (#114)
Wes Schneider: "Shut-In" (#128)
James Jacobs: "Scepter of the Underworld" (#12); "Twilight's Last Gleaming" (#24); "Twilight's Last Gleaming" (#35); "Lord of the Scarlet Tide" (#85); "Headless" (#89); "The Razing of Redshore" (#92); "Porphyry House Horror" (#95); "Flood Season" (#98); "Maure Castle" (additional material, #112); "Into the Wormcrawl Fissure" (#134); "There is no Honor" and "Sasserine" (#139, which looks like won't quite be available by Gen Con, but we might get lucky!).

Looks like you listed Twilight's Last Gleaming twice. Did you mean to put that really cool adventure who's name I can't remember involving the giant lava creature under the gnome settlement?
Edit: I looked it up. Thunder under Needlespire was in issue #24. Great adventure btw.

No Sean Glenn? I'll have to give my portfolio to one of you at Gencon to pass on to him I guess. &:)
While we'll be able to look over portfolios and give you basic tips on how to break into the art scene for the magazines, I'm afraid that we won't be able to hand deliver portfolios from Gen Con to Sean. The best thing to do is to create an online portfolio of your work, bring copies of your work to Gen Con to show us, and then give us your card with the URL of your online portfolio on it. Or better yet; email Sean directly at sean.glenn@paizo.com with a brief letter of introduction and a link to your portfolio.

I was just reading on the gencon community boards about seminars. Some of the ppl there say you need to register for different ones. Does the 'Writing for Dungeon' seminar need pre-reg? If so, is it too late? Or can we just show up (with mountain dew and funyuns)?
eew... funyuns...
For our seminars, it's pretty much just a show up and sit down type deal; no need to pre-register for them.

What he said. I only register for seminars because having a physical ticket makes it easier for me to keep my schedule straight.
-Amber S., who will totally be there
I haven't seen you on the boards lately Amber... good to see you back.
I totally won't be there, which has me bummed. Have the dates for next year been announced.... maybe I can get the days off if I give them a full year's notice.

I'm planning on going next year and I know Dryder has talked about it as well. I'm saving up money already and my wife has given me the green light to go even if she can't go, which is bonus....so, put in for those days off, Ashavan, and let's have an all Were_cabbage game table!! Barring that, I'd love to meet the rest of us, after I finally got to meet Steve last month in Vegas. My fellow DM (Ray'kal on these boards) is also hoping to go, so if we could all meet up it would be great fun, I think!
Hi Amber, nice to see you back around as well...loved "Urban Decay!"

After it moved to Indy, I was depressed, and have not attended. Has it been good? Is there a replacement for the Safe House? Is it as cool as Milwaukee?
Luke,
I only missed three Gencons while it was in Milwaukee - even went a couple times in the late 70s when it was at UW Parkside. I have to say I like it much better in Indy. I may be biased because I'm from Milwaukee and the move to Indy means we now have hotel rooms to meet in and store our stuff, but it just feels like there is room to breath again! We've never had a problem in Indy finding a place to sit or play a game we just bought. The meeting rooms are big - oversized for most of the seminars, so you can usually just pop in the free ones without registering. The local resturaunts are very welcoming too - some even block off sets of tables just for gaming.
During the last couple years in Milwaukee we couldn't even find a place to sit and play games - we snuck into a basement hallway at the arena, turned on the lights ourselves and pulled a table out of a storage closet. The convention just got too large for the space - I read somewhere that that's why they didn't do any local advertising for the last few years here.

Oh man. I would give my left testi...let's just say I really wish I could go.

I'd never seriously considered attending Gen Con, but as I get older, I'm beginning to view Gen Con the way Muslims view Mecca: you have to make one trip in your lifetime. That being said, I'll be waiting until next year...
I think I've only been twice or so since they tore down Mecca.

As ever,

Nicolas Logue will be in full effect at Gencon!
Is Rich or Greg going?...Thought not...panzies!
If anyone has nothing gonig on at high noon on Saturday, come to room 103 and drink in the madness of IRON DUNGEONMASTER!!! If there is space anyone with generics can play (or compete as an IRON DM for that matter if we can spare a slot). KICKASS PRIZES, and all the FANFARE OF IRON CHEF, but cooler, cause it's all about the D&D BABY!!!
Check out irondm.com for a basic site put together by last year's winner. You can see a picture of me under the Judges link too...its a real good likeness.

I noted a few memorable quotes from James Jacobs's volunteer thank-you game.
James: "There's no cockatiels in D&D! Prove it!"
(shortly after firing an arrow and missing)
Tim: "Shoot anything that moves. And don't miss."
Brendan: "I never miss. Except for before."
James: "Suddenly your lantern burns out!"
Me: "I might be scared if the door wasn't on fire."
Jeremy: "I don't stop for fish!"
James: "Do you attack with that bastard sword you don't know how to use?"
Nic: "No, I'm going to stare at everyone in the room like they're crazy. Then I start fitting bricks back into the wall."
James: "You're walling your party in with the monsters? That's awesome."
Me: "I could send Beaky," (my owl familiar) "around the corner to scout. That never ends badly."
Tim: "Are all these characters female so you can put sexy chicks on the cover and sell more issues?"
Me: "They're actually going to name the new AP 'Savage Bosoms.'"
Nicolas Logue Contributor |
The game was awesome!!!
Thanks everybody there for making it cool. I loved when Jeremy went back to kill that chain we saw swinging! It's been soooo long since Brendan killed my character, that freakin rocked! Beaky was the bomb! So were Tim's bosoms and the way he made me really really uncomfortable by touching my ears all the time...
...in the game you sick people!!! I swear! No, really...it was just roleplaying...didn't mean a thing. Stop looking at me like that!!!
Good times everyone! Thanks James for running it!

Now I'm really sorry I missed this session (except for the ear touching part). Had a previously scheduled Video Games Live with my kids and I didn't notice that you guys were in the Hyatt when we walked back through the atrium (Tim filled me in later).
Maybe next year.

I'd love to run another one-shot game next year, especially since I was only able to turn half of the party into ghouls this time. I was hoping for at least an 80% undeadification. Oh well.
And also; thanks to all of you who helped out with running demos at the booth; this was Paizo's most successful Gen Con to date, and your help at the booth was much appreciated!

Anytime, anytime! Next year, I'll have to pay more attention to my watch. I was so busy showing people how to murder [url"http://paizo.com/store/byCompany/t/titanicGames"]Dr. Lucky[/url] that I missed the seminar!
Congrats again on the ENnies! I tried to keep my inner fanboy under control, but Paizo has not only kept me busy running games for several groups, it's also caused me to confidently perma-subscribe.

Hey, that was pretty fun. I hope James gave you back yer pencil...thanks for letting me use it.
The pencil wound up with Wes, who was going to return it to me, but then your government decided it was a lethal weapon and confiscated it at the airport. I always knew that pencil was up to no good!

P.S. The ear touching was the best part of the game!
