So. . . what happens now?

Age of Worms Adventure Path

Okay, so my party couldn't handle Brazzemal. Vercinabex killed the spellcaster with a prismatic spray, which also caused insanity in the bard.
The Blackguard, Ranger, and Cleric couldn't handle it when Brazzemal made his appearance, wherein the Blackguard was killed with a series of melee attacks and his breath weapon, while the Ranger and cleric where near dead. So, they had the bright idea to planeshift to the Astral Plane, sleep and heal, and then try shift back and continue the fight. They just forgot about the part where you appear 5-500 miles from your target.

So now, Brazzemal escapes with the phylactery (Which he took from Gazzelfek before combat). What happens? I looked throughout the magazine and it always assumes that the PC's got the phylactery and got away. Is there some way to continue the adventure, even though Dragotha has hs phylactery and probably hid it? Because Idon't want to end the adventure here.. .

Any suggestions are happily taken.

The Exchange

Well, a suggestion might be to consider where the phylactery has been taken. Has it gone to the Wormcrawl Fissure? Has it been hidden (by Dragotha or Brazzemal) somewhere else? Does Brazzemal himself have an agenda, so maybe he won't hand it over to Dragotha (it mentions in the next adventure where Brazzemal's lair is - could be fun tackling him there are after taking out his kobold minions, some of whom could be high level[maybe killer NPC kobolds might be a bit whisical for you, though it makes me smile]). Maybe a lackey of Lashonna's could intervene and try to obtain the phylactery, or at least let the characters know where it is.

But even if Dragotha has it, it probably isn't a big deal - if he holds it close, you can destroy the phylactery and him in one go (assuming, of course, that they can destroy him at all). In fact, to prevent further story disruption, that might be the best course - get to Dragotha AND the phylactery before he has a chance to conceal it again himself.

Perhaps Dungeon should do a post-AoW backdrop, describing a world where Kyuss wins.

It sounds like there may be a need/demand :/

In the context of the campaign itself, the phylactery's fate isn't a key part of stopping the Age of Worms. If Dragotha recovers it (which he certainly does if Brazzemal gets it and escapes), he'll hide it somewhere remote and difficult to get to, in a place where there are several dead dragons laying around (he might even kill Brazzemal as a reward and leave his body near to the phylactery).

When (if) the PCs kill him in "Wormcrawl Fissure," his spirit returns to his phylactery and then possesses the dead draagon nearby. Until the PCs destroy the phylactery, they can look forward to fighting Dragotha on a regular basis. If they're quick, they'll be able to finish the campaign before he returns. If not... they may be in trouble.

You could have all the leftover bad guys go to the Hellspike
prison.
Just use the battle mats and ignore the module included.
You could use the parts that fit.
Note that a side adventure will increase their XPs.
Some of them need to recoup levels.
The rest need to be above the recommended APL.
Can the Blackguard be raised?
He serves an evil diety and they might prefer the Age Of Worms comes to pass.
This might be a good time for them to create a character more
in keeping with the campaign.

I can just imagine a fool-hardy party voting to NOT search out the new location of the phylactery. Afterall, if you beat him once, in his own lair no less, just think of the XP you could reap on a regular basis as he re-forms a new body and comes after on every 3rd friday of the month (or however long it takes to reform).

That would be mine and my fellow party memebers thought we joked about using the seal of law like a video game power up device to keep summon the creatures but the 4 elementals are a real pain in the butt so we desided against it and our DM laughed at us
