Not to be that way but Lucifer. I mean duh. And in the literary sense, too. I'm not being all hail Satan here or anything stupid like that. I'm talking John Milton here.
Oh and Clarence Boddicker from Robocop. The scene with the grenade? Awesome.
Comic books? I would like to say that The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants from the 80's were great! SO the X-Men is my answer....
Magneto knows what's up.

Destro Fett |

James Veneminn, the Gemini Killer from The Exorcist III. One of the best performances by anybody, ever. That guy still gives me the creeps.
Academy Award winner Brad Dourif, who by the way should have been in Tim Burton's Batman Forever as The Riddler, which of course never happened...

Hierophantasm |

Personal favorite goes to (of all things) Antonio Salieri from Amadeus. No wonder F. Murray Abraham won the academy award with his performance.
Another fave is Yyrkoon. Check out "Elric of Melnibone" for the start of his incestuous/treasonous scheming.
And finally, as a Dynasty Warriors fan, Lu Bu...that cheesy, combo-buffering, shave-off-your-health-bar-with-a-friggin-chainsaw S.O.B.

Valegrim |

lol; I guess I was only thinking of comics;
how about J.R Ewing from Dallas; wow people hated that guy; he has a classic phrase too "I have found that once you get rid of your pride; making decisions is much easier" ok, is paraphrased and you have to imagine him in an expensive suit with a class of burbon on the rocks and a cigarette talking to a $1k a night hooker type or wife of some business partner. The who shot J.R. episode still has one the the most watched tv program viewer participation ever. If I remember right it is number two all time just behind the MASH reunion show. J.R. has to be the best tv soaps villian; or maybe hehe; Rick Flair from wrestling with the 4 Horsemen; lol. Anyone wanna do villain wrestlers?

Korgoth |

Yellow Bastard and Kevin from Sin City. (theres a dude who I go to school with named Kevin, whenever I see him I always go "He made me WAAAAAATCH!!!!!")
Also Captain Aizen from bleach, Legato from Trigun, and Dick Cheney.
Cant belive I almost forgot Durandal from Marathon. YOU TELEPORTED ME WHERE!?!?!!!!???

Grayshades |

Lord Papal (Dreadstar)
Thanos
Darkseid
(sense a pattern in those three? ;)
Ra's Al Ghul
Scarecrow
Riddler
Deadshot
Lex Luthor
most of Flash's Rogue Gallery
Ultron
Kang
Korvac
Loki
Dread Dormammu
Baron Mordo
Green Goblin
Kingpin
outside of comics:
Darth Vader (from the original trilogy, I am meh on he prequels)
the Nazgul
Cylons
the Illuminati

Koga: The Ninja Trick wrote:The Koga wants to say Dr. Doom, afterall, we have so much in common..
The best thing about Dr. Doom as a villian is the raging contradictions hidden behind that mask in that brilliant mind of his. Not only is he a master of science but of the sorcerous arts; EVERY Halloween he remembers his mother by battling the very lord of darkness for her soul. He is a tyrannical despot whose subjects adore him. He is evil incarnate, but his word is his bond; his sense of honor is warped but he will not sell out his principles.
He is ruthless, but wouldn't harm a defenseless innocent.
That's what, in my opinion, makes him about the most three-dimensional comic villain there has ever been.
Wait, I thought Dr. Doom was partially metallic and could shoot beams of energy out of his hands?
Oh, right...only in the cruddy movie version. I forgot. Depth of character is a deficit in Hollywood blockbusters.

Depending on the armor, Dr.Doom could ALWAYS shoot beams from his hands. I didn't mind him becoming partially metallic in the movie because they needed SOME reason for him to wear that ridiculous facemask all the time.

Well, yes, because the weapons were built into his armor. However, he never actually had any powers. He also had a reason to wear the mask, because his face was scarred from an accident that he blamed Reed Richards for causing, and was vain enough to want to keep it hidden.

Almost Shadowborn; Doom could also use eldrich energy and cast magic and I would call that a power; he battled and won for sorcerer supreme of earth for example; but didnt want the job; but he certainly has powers and can summon and shoot eldrich energy out of his hands if he wants too; with his sense of honor he doesnt usually use his magic on non magical opponents except to gather information; he always battled Richards with science and the Dr Druids; Shaman, and Dr. Strange with magic as well as various Xmen.

Alphabetically, so nobody will be jealous :
Bobba Fett (Star Wars)
Colonel Kurtz (Apocalypse Now)
Darth Vader (Star Wars)
Gollum (Lord of the Rings)
Joker (Batman)
Lucifer (Angel Heart)
Magneto (X-Men)
Mordred (Excalibur)
Roy Beatty (Blade Runner)
Saruman (Lord of the Rings)
Six (Battlestar Galactica)
and i am sure i forgot so many...
i usually prefer villains to heroes.

In D&D, I think it's a three-way tie: Vecna, Acererak, and Lareth the Beautiful.
In comics, Doctor Doom. The Joker's a close second, but Doom is just a more... relateable... villain. I also particularly liked Doom's incarnation in the Ultimate Universe, though I'm really glad they're at least hiding the goat-legs. The Green Goblin's up there too.
In novels, I'd have to say my favorite villain could possibly be Artemis Entreri... but there are so many, it's really hard to choose.
Favorite villain team/group/organization? The Medusan Lords from Warlords of the Accordlands are some of my favorites, so that could do it...

Dr. Doom is also a sorcerer, and could potentialy shoot mystical bolts or something, with out the aid of his armor (although I don't think he ever has in a comic book)... the accident involving Richards that scarred his face, gave him a little nick under the chin... nothing disfiguring or anything... disfiguring his face was something he did himself when he took the still red hot mask out of the fire and put it on.

Good point, I hadn't really thought about the sorcery, since it gets so underplayed in comparison to his scientific abilities. Then they'd pull them out in a pinch. Like when Terrax fused his armor and he was about to get blown to bits, and he used his abilities to switch conciousness with a bystander until he could get home and pop open a fresh clone.

One of my favorite Dr. Doom appearance was a few issues of Excalibur, where he tricks Kitty Pryde into using the Soulsword to get the two of them to Limbo, then takes it from her so he can rule that dimension. It ended up guest starring the Avengers as well (West Coast I believe). All in all, it was a fun story.

yep; it was; especially since it brought out some of Kitty's flaws; she is both smart and been around and well trained; Doom's plan and ability was just to much for her; great story. hehe one of the cool things about Doom is he often sounds so reasonable unless he is ranting.

Ozymandias from The Watchmen.
That scene where he states "I've already done it."
FREAKY.
One of the best villains ever...I can't wait for the MOVIE!!!
But my personal favorites are (in no particular order) The Master (Doctor Who's arch nemesis), The Skrulls (Secret Invasion is soooo good), Sinestro and the Red Skull.

Black Dow |

In no particular order...
The [old school] Abomination, The Wrecker, Sabretooth, Black Dow [from Joe Abercrombie's The First Law trilogy] and Bill "The Butcher" Cutting [from Gang's of New York]
Basically a good villian [in my book] is a brutal b*****d with an occasional bit of pathos thrown into the mix.

Paste Pot Pete.
In a Universe full of Cosmic entities and unimaginable powerful foes, you have to give a guy who's thing is to 'glue stuff together' credit for having the balls to even exist.

Then you would like Black Adam, if you were a DC fan, even though technically he's a 'good' guy.

Dr. Doom has been my favorite villain ever since I read the graphic novel Emperor Doom, where he successfully takes over the world, defeating (peacefully and non-violently) all of the world's heroes except Wonder Man. And under his guidance, the world improves so much -- war ends, poverty ends, famine ends, diseases are conquered -- that Wonder Man can't bring himself to rise up against Doom at first. Eventually he decides he has too, but he spends a few weeks camping first.
And in the end, Doom has the ability to stop Wonder Man and his small group of heroes from saving the world. All he has to do is push a button and they all die. He puts his hand on the button....and he hesitates while he ponders the incredible boredom and ennui he has felt since achieving his life's goal. He's not happy ruling the world, not as happy as he was trying to rule the world. So he takes his hand off the button, and let's the heroes win the day.
That is the most awesome villain moment ever.
Runners up would be Darth Vader, Thoth Ammon, Fu Manchu, Ernst Stravo Blofield and Cobra Commander.
EDIT: Oh, and I don't know how I managed to forget The Green Goblin. He was pretty lame before he died, but after he died and his son went mad, and things kept getting crazier and crazier, then he came back (best inexplicable comic book resurrection EVER, and the only saving grace of the Clone Saga) and turned into the Father Figure From Hell and became a top tier maniac.
"Peter...call me father." - Norman Osborn, Son of the Green Goblin
