Now that Dragon#339 and the Dragon Compenium Vol 1(i know there is going a vol. 2 in the very near future) brought back some more of the old favorites like Xvarts and the Animus, i was wondering : could a Monster Manual 4 be in the works?(hint, hint)
As for the were-Playtpus, i have to ask: is it possible for one to have two strains of lycantropy?(like can a werewolf bitten by a wererat take some of the characteristics of said wererat or vice versa)what about a vampire?

If a dire-wereplatypus is bitten by a vampiric rot grub, what would happen? Template implosion?

I'm more intrested in what happens when a wolfwere gets bitten by a werewolf? Werewolfwere? Werewolfwolfwere? Wolfwerewerewolf? And then contracts the Vanishing from "Life's Bazaar". Where werewolfwolfwere? Hmmm, Boggles the mind. Grammar implosion.

As to the dire-wereplatypus being bit by a vampiric rot grub all I can say is: "Oh Chris! Would you come to this thread for a moment? Here hold this grub."

won't people confuse the poor were-playtpus with the weremole? and another thing can what kind of vampire would bite into a rot grub in the first place?
Unless it was with a tequilla chaser.

Another quick question about the wereplatypus...What do you think would happen if he ran into the equally-dreaded platypuswere. Would it be a peck to the death? (and do Platypi actually peck?)

ALso (and just to throw another topic out there). Why did they do away with the spellpoint system from the 'Skills and Powers' book. I kind of liked that system.

Bring back the carnucle! that lovable armadillo with the ruby on its forehead that turns to worthless dust when slain. and don't worry about the were-platypus and playtpus-were battle, the croc hunter would step and protect the endangered aberattions.(and gets bitten as a result and becomes a were-jerk, a jerk only more so.)

But vampires never drink...tequilla.

We don't peck, actually.

In a fight, we find an unbiased arbiter to flip each of us onto our backs. The first one to sucessfuly roll upright is the winner.

We also hold formal contests, like bill-wrestling, egg wheezing, and the three-legged waddle.

How 'bout a bloody mary? But it would be cool to see An alcoholic vampire terrorizing the drunks in the local tavern.

For the record, I am not Sean Reynolds. I also had no idea it is/was his nickname. I just wanted a nick that reflected my "old school" roots. (Roots, get it? HA!)

it is! :) next year...

as i mentioned in another (less appropriate) thread, i am thinking of writing an adventure featuring a zoo or circus with weird "animals" from the depths of the 1E days... ;)

The old first edition picture of the grubs burrowing into the adventurer's arm is still great...for whatever reason, we always forgot to check for them, falling for the same "there is a old pile of garbage in the corner" routine...

Really folks what about weapon speed. It was a great thing, it was dare I say it REAL, and made sense.

The problem with weapon speed is it adds a fair bit of extra book keeping and really does not give out that much. If you wanted to you could probably figure out some kind of a house rule. For example: figure attacking with claws or a bite or bare hands are fastest. So if your using natural weaponry your inititive is unmodified.

Light Weapon -0 to inititive.
One handed weapon -0 to inititive.
Not a light weapon -2 to inititive.
Two handed weapon -2 to inititive.

So using a rapier would not midify inititive (light, one handed)
Using a long sword would be -2 (not light, one handed)
Using a two handed sword would be -4 (not light, two handed)

This system adds some of the benifits of weapon speed while still being pretty simple - but I must say that even thouigh I outlined it I'd still not use it on the basis that weapon speed modifications simply don't add enough to combat to justify their inclusion IMO. Also what happens when a player has a weapon in each hand? Deos he go on two inititives? What happens to his inititive when he drops the heavy two handed sowrd and yanks out a hand crossbow?

Generally answering such questions just slow things down - something I do only for criticals and fumbles (because they are so exciting). Otherwise you roll inititive - add your modifies and you stay in that order for the rest of the combat unless you delay or some such - simple and fast, just the way I like my combats. I have enough problems with the players wanting to jump on the tables without adding inititive bonus and penalties to the mix.

I prefer to think that it takes the same amount of time to swing a great sword as a dagger, in that a knife fighter has to pick his moment and strike in a sort of dance, whereas a two-handed weapon is generally swung full force at a location in space the weilder suspects will be occupied by something he doesn't like by the time the business end gets there.

Now I know that this is a fantasy game, but you can't just ignore these little rules called the Laws of Physics. A great sword is large than a dagger, and thus has more mass. This means that it takes more force to move the great sword than it does to move the dagger. Some kind of penalty or initiative modifier only makes sense, like what Jeremy MacDonald posted.
