I'd like to echo Zherog's offer - I have a stack of GMail invites, so if anybody wants one, email me at dm.lilith@gmail.com and let me know!

I have a proposal that was sent on 9/26/2006 about mystical languages? I know that's right on the edge of the material that's already been looked at, so should I just sit tight for everyone to come back from the holidays or get worried?

I don't think that one came to me, so you'll need to wait to hear from Jason about it. He's gone through his stack of queries and we're going to try to have a meeting about them in the next couple weeks. Cross your fingers and eyes!
No problem, I'll keep an eye out then. :)
woohoo!
just got a li'l response. :)
From which editor? Was it for a query or a submission? How old was it? And, based on your happy nature, I'll assume it was a positive one?
:D
it was Jason, looking for something specific in a hurry. :) i'd imagine he hasn't really gotten through to responding to the bulk of the queries yet, but saw something in my query that he needed at just the right moment.
so, hopefully that's a good sign that more responses are coming before long. :)
now, i've got a short deadline so i don't have a lot of time to sit here talking. ;) heheh
So... E-mails from Jason aren't just rumors?
:P :P :P
BOZ wrote: it was Jason, looking for something specific in a hurry. What's funny is that something similar happened to me lately as well, the getting asked to write something on somewhat short notice I mean. Was a cool topic, I didn't say no.
But hopefully your particular instance means some movement into the query backlog here soon. *thumb twiddle of evil*
that's what i'm hoping for, yes. :)
BOZ wrote: it was Jason, looking for something specific in a hurry. :) Good luck :) I was given a week to write "The Plunderer's Handbook", my record so far. There's nothing like that frantic feeling of a really tight deadline to get the juices pumping.
How far along are the non-Mike editors on queries? I have heard from him re: My last batch, but nto others. Where is the staff at date wise?
My queries on Skill Tricks (ala Complete Scoundrel) and Truenamers have been just sent. Timer starts ;).

same thing happened to me last week, hoping it leads to more emails soon :)
Articles pitched.
Me scared :(
The waiting begins, once again...
Well I resent my completed Class Acts, last week, from a new email address. Hopefully they'll reach you this time Mike ;)
Third time's a charm.

Yay, ice-cream!
Does Jason like ice-cream?

I sure hope so.
That was über-quick :D. I received a quite positive email on one of the above submissions ;). Now it rests on my hands not to mess up.
Just had two queries brained by the dragon, one more left to go...
I just had one rejected (the more recent query I had made). Still have another lurking around.
i think the rejections get handed out first. :) i got a couple, but not on anything i was all that concerned with. got some more that have been sitting out there for a long time, so hoping for good things from them... *fingers crossed*
OUCH! Four emails with a total of ten queries just got smacked down by Jason. I got one email left, but I don't have high hopes after that massacre.
BTW, do all of the form rejections say, "This sucked so hard!" ;P
Todd Stewart wrote: I just had one rejected (the more recent query I had made). Still have another lurking around. I also had most most recent rejected, while an earlier still waits. I wonder if he's going in reverse chronological order.
it almost does seem that way! well, we'll find out next week i guess. :)
BOZ wrote: it almost does seem that way! well, we'll find out next week i guess. :) Of course, this really just means that it's time to start pitching some more queries next week. ;)
Just got rejected proposal e-mails (all of 'em) a couple of days ago. Guess monsters are not my forté. I'll try psionics then.
I'd make a post every time I got a rejection, but it's poor message board etiquette to post too frequently in a single thread...
Jonathan Drain wrote: I'd make a post every time I got a rejection, but it's poor message board etiquette to post too frequently in a single thread... hee hee XD
Err... if I have a query that wasn't rejected does it mean it got misplaced or that it's awaiting round 2?
i still have at least a couple, are a number of us waiting on responses? if so, a round 2 may indeed be forthcoming. ;)
regardless, i have a couple that have been waiting for over a year that i should probably have sent a followup on after the last time queries were reviewed. :D
There was a post in another thread (I forget which) that says there is a round two in progress.
That is interesting; I made some submissions last march and haven’t heard a word since. Should I give up hope, try a chaser, or just draft up a new query to hit the next round? (I’ll admit I don’t think my actual Submission could have been less professional last time. To my chagrin.)
Does any one know the etiquette on resubmitting queries very similar to one another? Say if between the first submission and second the concept of a race you were querying over had changed rather drastically?)
i'd say that's less of a problem; the changes you make in your idea may make them more interesting.
If you sent a submission back in March, I'd say it's totally normal not to hear a word about it by this time. I never heard word back about the one feature I had in the magazine until the contract arrived.
If, however, you sent a query last March, then I suspect you need to drop an e-mail to the editors to follow up, because you should've heard back on that by now.
So Zherog as an old pro mind if I ask a few questions? This was my first attempt at publication you see. When I send my Chaser Email would this be the time to add in some other Queries I have since thought of? And should I modify the description of the Race I was querying over to account for its evolution in my head since March?
(These questions open to all, any kindly Editor who wants to give me something from the horses mouth would be apreciated).
Quick question for Mike (or anyone else who knows): How should tables for Class Acts manuscripts be formatted?
Thanks in advance.
Surround the table with square brackets and all caps that read BEGIN TABLE or END TABLE as necessary.
Tab once between each column. Don't try to line the columns up on the page.
That's what I do, anyway.

Yup. Amber does it right.
For the love of all that is good and holy, never ever ever include an actual table (using Word's table function). Those are unnecessary pains.

Do excel files work better or worse? If I merge my excel into a document does it cause unnecessary pains?
My guess would be yes, it would create unnecessary pains. :)
The one tab table thingy helps them with the layout software you use. The more you help them, the more they like you. :D
Scott & Le Janke wrote: Do excel files work better or worse? If I merge my excel into a document does it cause unnecessary pains? As Zherog says, that would be a pain. You can copy the information out of Excel and paste it into Word using the Paste Special: No Formatting command and that would make a good and appropriate table. I do that sometimes myself. :)
But don't make us do that to your document for you, because that's just one more reason to reject the whole thing. And you never want to give editors more reasons to reject your work.

Uh oh.
Time to resend a few completed Class Acts...
Last Post Errata: - Bah, too late to edit -
Mike, I happen to know I've added a table to one of the Class Acts you've confirmed you've recieved. Do you want me to resend them unformatted, or just let you go through the pain this one time?
psst... offer to wash his truck. It can't hurt, and might help. ;)

Don't worry about it. In the future don't do that, but for now it's not a big deal. I can't hold against you something you didn't know. :)
