We pay five cents per word as a baseline. After several adventures, and after you've prooven you can get us cool adventures without blowing deadlines, this rate goes up. Payment goes out about a month after an issue hits the newsstand.
An unrelated question: are there "manuscript meetings" just like query meetings or are these handled individually. Just curious...

Just curious, but is there any news concerning recent/ upcoming submissions meetings? I have some queries from June in the stack, and I was wondering if I somehow got passed over or if you just haven’t had time for a meeting yet. Thanks guys!
We have not held one in some months. Making time for one of those meetings is on our list of Things To Do. I'm certain there'll be announcements here on the boards some hours to days after the meeting, wherein contributors discuss rejections and acceptances.
But as of yet, nothing.

BTW, is the address 'dragon@paizo.com' still active? I am asking because all the mails I sent it for the last two months went unreplied, even the ones I sent to check if it's active.
It's either that or I was labeled as a spammer... or worse, a seriel nagger!

Yes, it's active. :) No, you shouldn't expect quick replies from it. :\ Yes, your emails likely went through. :)

General information for everyone's benefit:
99% of the time, we get the emails people send us (queries or not). 99.995% of the time, we don't inform you of that fact directly.
The only time to ever worry that we didn't receive your query is when we say that we've gone through all our queries and submissions up through a certain date and you didn't actually hear back from us about a query or submission from before that date. THEN you should send follow-up emails. Otherwise, you should assume that we have the email you sent us. Sending us MORE emails asking if we got your earlier email only fills our already burgeoning Inboxes and slows down the machine even further. And believe me when I compare the current state of the machine with glacial molasses at the North Pole in January. :\
Brr... now I feel cold... ;D

Sorry about that, I just honestly thought the account wasn't working or that I fell victim to some anti-spam program... it happens sometimes... or at least so I heard... err....

So, I sent in two article queries in around late May, and an email in early September told me "they're still under consideration." I haven't heard about them since then...
I don't want to bug them (again) so I wonder if anyone else had been in a situation like this? Should I consider this period of consideration to be a sign of interest?
Guess I'm just eager to get a chance to write an article =).

what i suggest doing is keeping an eye on this thread. usually, within a few hours of someone hearing back, they will post in this thread. generally, a whole lot of people get e-mail replies on the same day or within a few days of each other. if other people are hearing back on something and you're not, then it's definitely time to speak up. :)

I'd ridicule your sense of humor, but I have too many articles sitting in your inbox. :D
Let me rephrase the question...
Which has a better chance: A submission meeting by the end of the year, or Jason embracing the idea of an issue full of yak folk articles?
Oh.. the submission meeting is far more likely. Right now we are neck deep in the works of China Mieville. Once that is squared away, I hope to start the journey through the submission pile.

Or better yet, once they do have that submission meeting, Jason embracing the idea of an issue full of yugoloth articles. Or just one 'loth article even. ;)

So...If this thread is still about the black hole at Dragon, I'd like to comment that I sent in a proposal eight weeks ago, and resent it (With more ideas) when I heard nothing five weeks later. Is this normal, and how much longer will I have to wait?
Unfortunately, as of late, this has been the norm. Getting the magazine out the door in a timely fashion comes first I am afraid and for some months, that leaves us little time to go through proposals. That said, I am really hoping to carve out some more time very soon.
Hang in there...

You might want to read through some of the earlier posts. Eight weeks is nothing. ;D
In fact, despite what might seem like horrible lag times on our end, three to six months is pretty standard for the publishing industry. If you want to be a professional writer, one of the things you rarely hear about is the need for patience. :)
And if patience isn't your strong suit (and I'm certainly with you on that one!), just keep sending in other queries, or try querying Dungeon as well. Sometimes just the act of sending in a query helps alleviate the doldrums of waiting.

NASA reports Mike's mail box has its own event horizon and gravitational field ...
Ha! True. But now... did you read? NASA just discovered a strange singularity next to... the... uh... Inbox Singularity. Believe it or not, emails are escaping! In fact, I have managed to send emails to several people. Several! :O

Hey pancake...good to see you. Thought you moved on.
Never! Just took me a while to realize I belonged back here. :)
BTW, Mike, just wondering, what is the queue (at least the one referred to in my e-mail)? Queue for manuscript editing/revision? I'm wondering exactly what stage my Psion Archetypes CA is at...
Thanks!

It means you're likely going to get published. :) It's in the queue of wonderful articles Mike plans on using.

To those who know what to look for, it is plain to see that China Mieville a political tool of the yak folk.

Not sure Mike. Got whose disclosure forms are dated 21st of August. One for Nov 1st. Thats perhaps a bit recent. You may well have replied; hotmail has failed me a lot recently.
Like Zherog said, I'm up past August now. You'll need to resend that query, unfortunately. :\
I haven't made it up to November, yet, though. Swimming through September right now...

I have a couple of article manuscripts (not queries) from August and September, respectively, that weren't replied yet (that is I received conformation of their reception but nothing else).
Should I worry about their fate or is it O.K?Mike McArtor Contributor |

If you sent them to me, personally, at my email address only... worry. Please resend them. :\
If you sent them to Jason or Dragon... you've still got several months before you need to worry. ;)

Good, I am relaxed then... very, very calm... everything is cool...

That is very odd Mike, as this will be the third attempt at actually sending the finished article. It seemigly got lost in the last round too.
:(
It's very possible our darn junk filter keeps snagging your emails and casts them into the ether. :(
The only thing I can think of is trying to send it from another email, but that might be a terrible hassle. :\
