Dungeon #124 says the WC is within a day's ride from DL (2 days on foot, I presume), but the first installment of Wormfood says the Fant house (10 minutes from WC) is on the "outskirts" of DL.
Isn't a 2-day walk too far to be considered the outskirts? If DL teens were regularly visiting the WC, wouldn't that be a bit of a haul? And judging by the campaign journals of the playtest group, the WC is likely within a day's WALK.

I had it in mind that it's half a day's travel from Diamond Lake on foot, roughly six miles. I was off in thinking the cairn was south of Diamond Lake though, accessed from the road that follows the Ery River. Only when I saw the Whispering Cairn ------> on the Diamond Lake map did I realize otherwise.

Fant's Mine/Office is 1 hour Northeast from the center of Diamond Lake. I use the Emporium as the central reference point. Assuming a normal human at walk speed; that translates to roughly 2 miles (I break it down to 1.5 miles by hills-trail and 0.5 miles by hills-trackless).
The Whispering Cairn is 10 minutes East from Fant's Mine/Office. For a normal human at walk speed, that translates to roughly 1500' over hills-trackless.

For perspective/comparison, the Boneyard (on the pull-out town map) is roughly 1500' Northeast of the Emporium by hills-road, a 5 minute walk for a normal human. The Old Observatory is roughly 1500' North of the Emporium by hills-road; also a 5 minute walk for a normal human.
The Anders' Land Farmstead is roughly 3000' East of the Emporium by hills-road; a 10 minute walk for a normal human.

This is your campaign, I assume, and not official?

Totally unofficial, but here's what I used: I told my players the mine office is about a 2-hour walk from Diamond Lake. The Cairn entrance is another 15 minutes or so away from the office, on the other side of a nearby hill.
I think it comes down to 'use what works for you', though I'll agree with Rob -- the Cairn needs to be close enough that the local kids can make it there and back within the same day.

This is exactly what I did. It is important for the cairn to be close enough to draw the local dare devils and curious children - yet far enough that it is not a perfunctory pedestrian thoroughfare. A couple of hours outside of town seems to work best.
Happy gaming.
