Suggested Wee Jas cleric prestige class

3.5/d20/OGL

Just lost my Pal/Abj in our Shackled City campaign and I'm looking at playing a LN cleric of Wee Jas who's sent to investigate/act as inquisitor in response to rumors about church of Wee Jas in Cauldron. Can anyone suggest an appropriate prestige class?

Not trying to munchkin' just trying to jumpstart some roleplaying ideas.

And please, no spoilers because I'm playing - not DM'ing - this one.

Why not just play a regular cleric?

Mystic Theurge or True Necromancer are two very fitting prestige classes for a cleric of Wee Jas. They both cover arcane and divine magic (magic being a domain of Wee Jas) while the True Necrromancer also emphasizes the Death domain.

Fair question. That's what I'm going for right now.

I'm just looking for any ideas to give the character something to shoot for within her order. She may never get there, but it helps me formulate her goals and objectives.

Definately agree with MyTh if you're playing a cleric/wizard, but when it comes to the necromancer option I tend to side with the orthodox position and say that such 3ed heresey has no place in the church of Wee Jas! :)

If you're a mono-cleric then look to the domains/portfolio for inspiration, and always consider tweaking PrCs from other settings to suit your needs.

For example if the FR has a PrC for clerics of Azuth (I presume it does, last time I looked the FR wasn't exactly short on PrCs!) then that might make a good foundation for a magic-oriented cleric of Wee Jas.

There's the Loremaster for those magically minded clerics that paid attention in school (and all clerics of Wee Jas paid attention in school!).

Minor tweaks to Church Inquisitor (CD) make it a viable option for an aggressive law-focused Jasidan priest.

It's not what you're after, but I threw together a Wee Jas PrC (the kro-Karuth) that although it wasn't really written for PC use might give a couple ideas or a starting point if you end up growing your own Wee Jas PrC. http://www.geocities.com/c_finlayson/karuth.html

Lastly, there's the one that I can't think of just now but which is hanging around in my head just out of reach of my brain's attempts to remember it.

If I was making a Wee Jas follower...Cleric/Wizard, with "Practiced Spellcaster" picked twice. Then go into the Mystic Theurge class.

Of course you could always, like above, just be a single class Cleric with your domains choosing your area of expertise.

Domination, Inquisition, Death, Law, Magic, Mind, ...or you can swap out Repose for Death

Have fun.

Tim, have you tried stopping by the House of Wee Jas group on Yahoo! and asking if anyone there had some ideas? Try giving it a try, and see what you get. I was doing some research on Wee Jas for an adventure a few weeks back and those guys were a great help.

One of the members in particular (ravennst on Yahoo! Messenger) was a great help. You could always IM him directly...

Why not be an Inquisoter. Morbid

Thanks for all the help, folks.

I'm going straight cleric who's a member of an inquisitor order (reflected in her skills and feats) but not the Inquisitor prestige class.

The way I read the class requirements it looks like you have to be a member of a Lawful Good church or organization. Wee Jas is Lawful Neutral and I wanted the challenege of playing a LN cleric of Wee Jas - rebuking/controlling undead) which means that I'm channeling negative energy - which doesn't seem to fit the Lawful GOOD organization requirement.

Just another suggestion:

You could also try the Dweomerkeeper PrC. It is in the Complete Divine Web Enhancement (for free!).

It is themed around Clerics who focus on studying Magic and the class description suggests that it would make a good Wee Jas PrC.

You just need to take one level of Wiz on top of your cleric levels to qualify.

I'm playing a priest of Wee Jas in a friend's campaign right now- Clr/Sor with a focus on necromancy, rebuking, and inflict spell, going to Mystic Theurge. The interesting part of this character and what makes me love it so much is that he constantly wears a metal face mask in the likeness of Wee Jas' holy symbol, as shown in the PHB (this was inspired by Kingdom of Heaven). He never takes it off, and no one else in the party has ever seen his face.

Also, since the game never specifies who exactly one must pay when obtaining materials for spells or items, he gets his from the Baatezu. He's not evil (he's LN); its just that celestials certainly wouldn't want to trade with him (as Wee Jas has a darker bent in my campaigns and my friend's), Inevitables don't seem to interact with anything except when persecuting universal law-breakers, and the Baatezu are always willing to make deals with mortals and are (relatively) trustworthy.

Of course, he has trouble getting along with the others in his party, who are all CG and NG. However, they do owe him their lives after some undead encounters, in one of which he single handedly dealt with 3 mummies (and was only 5th level- he has an 18 in Cha, and prepared nothing but Cure spells and Disrupt Undead). And, although strange and usually silent, the few times he's taken social action, it's generally gotten the party out of some hole they were in (despite, or sometimes even because of, the bizarre mask).

He was formally a son of a failed noble family who fell upon a life of crime, but was saved from the gallows by a convert-hungry priest of the Ruby Goddess. His "quest" for the atonement spell he recieved was to always wear the mask; he had been given a new life, name, and face.

Sorry to have gone on about my own character tehre so much, but I felt he might be a good source of some less-common RP ideas for another in search of an interesting Wee Jas worshipper.

As a good base, Master of Shrouds from Defenders of the Faith (don't know if that PrC made it into the Complete Divine). I imagine with some tweaking to be more specific to Wee Jas, it could be interesting.

church inquisitor. Complete Divine. They go around rooting out corruption and such in the church.

How about starting out as a gestalt (Clr/Wiz or Sor) character from Unearthed Arcana. It starts you out basically as a mystic theurge at 1st lvl and walk you right into the True Necromancer class even sooner.

Of course your DM would have to support it...

Master of Shrouds is in Libris Mortis as is True Necromancer.

Ah, yes, you are correct - I adore the True Necromancer PrC - especially for NPCs. :-D
