Issue #124 arrived today! Sweet!!!

Age of Worms Adventure Path

My copy of #124 arrived today! I'm just getting ready to sit down and soak all the AP2 goodness up...

Did anyone else get their copy yet?

Contributor

Not yet. Thanks for rubbing it in!

Argh! Nothing in the mail today!

I'm reading through the Diamond Lake backdrop and I'm loving every bit of it. What's the town like? It's Greyhawk's very own version of Deadwood! Mine Manager Balabar Smenk is definitely the Al Swearengen of town though I'll probably not go with the drawing of him. I'm so going to have an E.B Farnum type character in town as well. My players are going to LOVE this.

Nope, though it shipped out 10 days ago according to my subscription info. I keep forgetting to check the date when it comes in to see what the delivery time is for me. Since I'm in Seattle I thought I'd get it pretty quick but I guess location isn't everything where subscriptions are concerned.

The magazines are shipped from the Midwest, so living in Seattle actually doesn't help.

Of course, living in Seattle has plenty of its own advantages, it's just that getting Dungeon early isn't one of them. :)

Any idea about when we will see the campaign overview?

If I had to guess I'd say probably Thursday of next week. We're putting an issue to bed and finishing up the Shackled City hardcover, and unfortunately both of those things take precedence right now.

Quick question... if #124 is hitting subscribers now, when is the issue of Dragon, (#333, I think) that has the first Worm Food going to hit the stands? By my calculations, and the fact that issue #332 hit the stands this week, it's going to come out at least three weeks after the issue of Dungeon it's supposed to help does! Isn't that a bit late, or am I mistaken somehow? (I REALLY want to be mistaken! I really want that issue of Dragon to come out with the issue of Dungeon it's supposed to go with.)

In "The Whispering Cairn," a suggestion is made to let the PCs "hole up" in an abandoned mine office not far from the dungeon entrance. The first "Wormfood" is a map of that hideout, which is fairly incidental to the plot of the first adventure.

It took my group nine sessions to get through "The Whispering Cairn." You'll have plenty of time to implement the "Wormfood" material into your game.

Honestly speaking, I don't suggest starting an Age of Worms campaign the minute you get the magazine. Take time to familiarize yourself with the material, and imagine how to make Diamond Lake your own. Plan out your campaign before you begin, possibly taking to heart some of the advice in Dungeoncraft or the Campaign Workbook. This process will take more than the time it will take to get the next Dragon, or at least it ought to.

I think #332 came out longer than a week ago, incidentally, but I'm currently miles from my schedule and can't check.

I'm in Vancouver, Canada and I received my copy yesterday (Friday). Strange that I would get it before Seattle...

This adventure looks great, Erik. The town is fleshed out and has a strong character to it. There a couple local legends (like the gold in the boneyard) that make Diamond Lake unique.

I have only finished reading Part Two of the adventure but the dungeon looks great. It has puzzles, an interesting history that explains why everything is there (right up to its recent history and the bundle of rags in the entrance), and it's likely to be a PC-killfest like many 1st-level adventures can be (except for the wind trap...that could be trouble if they're not careful). Kudos on an interesting dungeon crawl that incorporates other elements. I think setting a dungeon amidst a living setting lends a lot to its credibility and hence its playability.

Okay, I've browsed the adventure, read the backdrop, & am presently reading the adventure in detail. Reading, I noticed something curious:

Possible Spoiler ahead, but pretty vague:

The Seekers symbol is an eight-pointed star--Did the Seekers adopt this symbol from Maure Castle? Did the Seekers have anything to do with the River of Blood murders (see S2 & Erik's "River of Blood" Living Greyhawk adventure)? Oddly enough, the symbol for Living Greyhawk is also an eight-pointed star, & whenever EGG posts to Greytalk he prefaces it with "Greetings Seekers."

All this may have been covered before, but this is the first time I've read of the Seekers official symbol.

Ack! Still nothing in the mail today, and monday is a postal holiday :( Looks like I'll just listen to what others say enviously and hope for a tuesday delivery :P

Erik... if I only had the time! I've got 12 people begging for AP2. People are trying to build characters already. I'm probably running two groups. Fortunately I've got a vacation coming up, so we'll not be playing one week. We'll see what happens...

True...like the crazy-sunny weather as of late and the Folklife festival at the Seattle Center this weekend (though the ever-present stink of patchouli I could do without.)...but I digress. The issue came in today, 11 days in transit. Not bad considering the distance. I haven't cracked the polybag yet, gonna grab something cold to drink, sit out on the patio and soak in some wormy adventure.

Blah!

That means my magazine, which didn't show up today, is sitting in some mailing hub in Seattle prior to making it's way out here onto the peninsula. That saddens me to no end... who knew I would see this three day weekend as a curse!?!?

As for the folklife festival... I think you are smelling... well, let's just say this IS Seattle.

Or, specifically, the 3:30 showing of Godzilla: Final Wars I just caught at the Seattle International Film Festival...

It's true. All work on the magazines came to an immediate halt for Saint Godzilla. We're back to work now, but hoo boy! Today's a day I'm glad to live in Seattle, that's for sure!

Iä Godzilla!

A buddy of mine came into my work to tell me about seeing that late last night (then subsequently crawling into my Queen Anne *$ for some much needed liquid boosting.) We've had the movie listings in the store for a couple of weeks now and all I've done with them is tidy them up around the shop, never even opened one. *sigh* The mighty conquering mutant lizard escapes me on the big screen once again (missed out on Godzilla 1985 because the theater I worked at closed down before we got to show the movie.) Oh well, there's always Netflix...eventually.

Man, I'd hate to be in yawl's (that's Texas for you-plural) shoes. I have about 2 dozen Dungeon magazines from 2001-2004 still in polybags that I haven't even read yet!! I will run my next campaign in Cauldron, using the AP Hardback that will be years out by then. Age of Worms will probably be run right around the time I retire from my first job, in about 8 years. I hope to have more time to DM after that.

I just got done running the party in my game through a modified version of the "Forest of Blood" from issue #103, which was very well received and highly entertaining.

Our D&D time is about 6 hours every 2-3 weeks. I guess one good thing about nursing homes in 20-40 years will be that a bunch of D&D generation folks will be there and I'll finally have all the time I want to play and run D&D games....(just kidding folks)

Don't forget the truly texan, all inclusive "All Y'all".

D&D in the retirement home. That really actually sounds like a lot of fun! Makes me not so concerned about ending up in a 'retirement community'. :P

Hey all, I got #124 yesterday, and I'm wondering if anybody out there is going to be running an online message board and/or chat game for the Age of Worms. I don't have anyone in my hometown to play with for live sessions, and I'm looking to find an online game, but only if with dedicated players who won't be dropping out due to time or life constraints (within reason). I don't want to run the game, but rather play it, as I'm ALWAYS the DM in games I've played before, except for a few online games I've joined, which of course fizzled due to folks dropping out:(. I am on the computer daily and can post several times daily and play on yahoo chat or other chat client if need be. I started reading the intro to Worms, but if I can find a game to join, I'll forgoe reading the adventure. I know that playing online can be slow, but with the use of chat and frequent posting, it doesn't have to be excruciatingly slow. The only turn-off on message board games I've had thus far was the game I joined where everyone stood in one area of a cave and literally argued for several real-time months over whether or not they should allow a Lizardfolk NPC to join them. Ugh! Not my kind of game! I love discussion and character interaction, but not for months on one subject! Anyway, you can reach me at spyyder976@yahoo.com if interested. I'd like to play a half-elf rogue/wizard (Ferrick), my primary PC for many games I've played, but may just decide to do something different-who knows? Looking forward to hopefully joining a game...Chris

I received my copy in the mail yesterday (Saturday 5/28). WOW! Wayne Reynolds cover is even more impressive in real life. I haven't read the entirety of the adventure or the backdrop, but what I have read is impressive! This is going to be so much fun to run.

I love the new easier to read stat blocks!!!

The poster map of Diamond Lake is great but the nice surprise was Joachim Barrum's full-page illustration on page 14. That took me back to the days of adventure illustrations in The Tomb of Horrors, The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, etc. I love that picture.

And the opening paragraph on page 15 is perfect. It is like an opening crawl for a Star wars movie. I can't wait to recite to my gming group as we get ready to embark on this Adventure Path.

Kudos to Erik Mona and the rest of the Paizo staff for their continuing level of excellence in Dungeon magazine!

#124 showed up today, and it looks to be a wonderful resource.

an observation about the cover; is the drow carrying a musical instrument on his back?!? a bard!! wow! who came up with this idea?

... and don't get me started about the cleric of Wee Jas! Wayne Reynolds has outdone himself - thanks for putting such effort into this magazine! i'll be enjoying it for quite a while

this is an *astonishing* cover, and one i'd like to have as a full-sized poster / art page of some kind.

wish my players luck - it looks like they'll need it.

Looks like some sort of zither type instrument... "Balance, Balance, Balance on the giant green worm thing!"

As neat as the cover is Erik has outdone himself with the adventure... very cool, and very Greyhawk. Looking forward to the rest of this 'portentous' series. :)

Here's hoping #124 will show up in my Virginia mailbox on Tuesday. I am eagerly awaiting it and beginning to think the mailman has forgotten my address.

Rooster,

I live in VA and received my on Friday. Strange how it can get to one and not the other.

On another note, I'm looking forward to reading more about Diamond Lake and the locale. I just started an 1stEd online game set in a mining town call Ravensridge of the Wild Coast where the Lortmils meet the Suss and I plan on integrating some of the ideas of Diamond Lake. Great job Erik!

Got mine on OKC Friday

Yeah I'm in DC and I still haven't got mine yet but maybe it will be at my house today when I get home.

That bit about the Nursing homes is one of the best I've heard in a long time. Yeah your right we will all have plenty of time then.

I got my issue today (far West Texas) and plan to read it and about a dozen more Dungeons during my family vacation. My wife gets car sick if she doesn't drive, so she gets the duty while I chill out. We've got 10 hours to Dallas; then six hours to Galveston 3 days later, then eight hours to Arkansas 4 days later, then 13 hours home 3 days after that....wait, I'd better bring my whole collection!!!!

Nursing home for retired gamers--business models anyone??? I'd go there any day when I'm 70+!!!

Have you checked your local nursing home?

Dang, I thought for sure I'd get my copy in the mail today (San Antonio, TX), but it wasn't there. DOH!

I'm hoping if it reached west texas today it should be out for delivery tomorrow here in SA. I'm starting to wonder just how impossibly slow the bulk magazine mail class is!

My husband and I are still waiting on our copy too in Western MA... but it isn't unusual for it to actually arrive AFTER the issue is available at our FLGS.

Am I the only one who either got an incomplete map or 4 copies of the same map?

I got my Age of Worms adventure today in the mail, and I'm as excited to read it as a kid on Christmas morning. I'm also excited about the Maure Castle sequel.

Man, I felt sure I was going to see a magazine in the mail today. Hopefully the mailman is cracking a whip on the snail that's bringing me my copy!

Ha! I can't see whyyou're all so worried about 124 arriving in the next day or so - my copy of 122 just got into the store today. So whilst I've got a whole bunch of Dungeony-Goodness (TM), I've still got another two months to wait for 124.
I sometimes suspect our last PM was right when he said Australia was the ass of the planet. We never get anything on time.
