Two new PDFs for the Pathfinder RPG are available from Frog God Games!

In the early days of Third Edition D&D, a small company called Necromancer Games partnered with White Wolf Publishing to take the RPG world by storm. Necromancer's "Third Edition Rules, First Edition Feel" products set a high-water mark for d20 products, but as third edition slowed down, so did Necromancer Games. But now that the Pathfinder RPG has reinvigorated the scene, Bill Webb—half of the Necromancer Games team—has decided to come out of his slumber to start Frog God Games!

The Slumbering Tsar Saga began its journey years ago as a single mega-adventure for Necromancer Games. It then became a trilogy of adventures, and then a trilogy of mega-adventures, and now it comes to you as a monthly series of PDFs designed for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, each the size of a full adventure in its own right. After all 14 PDFs have been released, the entire work will be collected into a massive hardcover book containing over a half million words of pure First Edition-style adventure.

Something Stirs in the City of Evil. Over the distant northern hills, beyond The Camp, and past the Desolation stand the pitted walls of Tsar. A hundred armies have crushed themselves against this bulwark in futile attempts to breach the city. Even the combined might of the Heavens and Earth were unable to break through in the final battle of Tsar. So why was the city suddenly abandoned on the verge of victory, and what waits for those foolish enough to enter the Temple-City of Orcus?

In Slumbering Tsar: The Desolation, Part 1—The Edge of Oblivion, the sleeper awakes as Slumbering Tsar arrives. Here at the very edge of the Desolation is where it all begins. The Edge of Oblivion details the environs and inhabitants of The Camp, the wretched settlement situated on the edge of nowhere, and the events that lead adventurers deeper into the Desolation. Starting at 7th level, the Edge of Oblivion provides the doorstep taking players into the mind-shattering oblivion that awaits beyond.

The adventure continues in Slumbering Tsar: The Desolation, Part 2—The Ghosts of Victory. The Battle of Tsar was won, or so the history books say, but that victory came at a cost of thousands of heroes and stalwart defenders of good. The Ghosts of Victory provides the players' first steps into the wasteland that is the Desolation in the areas known as the Ashen Waste and the Chaos Rift where the Army of Light once encamped. Every victory comes at a price, and none know this better than the ghosts of those who paid it.

Written by Paizo-favorite author Greg Vaughan, this epic fantasy adventure is sure to please those looking to combine Pathfinder RPG rules with a First Edition feel!

ST updates?

I have most of the files for Slwumbering Tsar 7 and will begin working on it Saturday.

Frog God Games

The ST7 manuscript is complete and is in layout as Pale said. We're still waiting on the last few art pieces.

Thank you for the ST updates. Looking forward to the next installment.

Ursined Sealed and Delivered and Strange Bedfellows are live! Don't miss these two low level adventures. Ursined (http://www.talesofthefroggod.com/index.php/products/one-night-stands?start =4) features the art of legendary Paul Jaquays and was written by the old druid himself, Dennis Sustarre! Its a cold weather test of wits for players of all classes, but I can tell you that control temperature 10' radius is a most valuable spell!

Strange Bedfellows comes form the same twisted mind that gave us Family Affair. When Carla writes, you can always expect twists in the plot. Evil is not always motivated by evil...

In other news, FGG will begin offering legacy products of Mythmere Games. A list will be posted soon. Once these products are gone, they are gone, so collectors be advised that not all orders may get processed.

A couple updates for the day. As most of you are aware, the bindiings on the S&W Complete Rulebook covers were not acceptable on the test copies. Our printer (with my concurrence) rejected them, and they are (have been) redone. I am told they will ship to Matt late this week. We appreciate your patience, but i wanted to ensure that you guys all got a quality book. If I was on time, you will remember next week, if the book binding sucked, you will remember forever. In other news, Ursined and Strange Bedfellows will arrive to me this week and will ship as soon as I get them. Tsar 7 is almost done in layout, and will go to editing in the next week or so. More news soon!

January 27, 2010

Ursined and Bedfellows arrived today, and I am told that the hardcovers have shipped to Matt (finally). Hang in there guys and gals, I am packing books this weekend, and will get the hardcovers out same day I get them! In other news, Tsar 7 is downloading from my server to my desktop right now, and will be posted Saturday!

ST 7 is rocking!! Thank you for the bookmarks!!!

I'm not sure how long I can wait to run this. My original plan was to wait until I received the hardback, but I don't know, I'm anxious to start the bloodshed.

I'm glad that you like the bookmarks. I recently updated my computer and software so the problems went away. :)

Any chance of updating ST1-6 with bookmarks?

I'm starting to prep the Desolation. I just have to say that the Camp is just so damn cool!! Kudos Greg!

Question: I'm wondering how much background the party would know prior to going to the Camp? I'm thinking the History, the Army of Light and the Desolation Primer. Since the whole adventure is not available yet, I'm wondering how much is too much, basically.

Thanks, and all of that information is probably fine, though you might want to piecemeal the Desolation Primer stuff out as they investigate around town a bit.

I wrote the series as three adventures, so there are three layers of reveals as the saga progresses. I don't know that anything in the background of ST 1 is really a spoiler. I'd make 'em do some research in Bard's Gate and make some Knwledge checks, though. :-)

March 6, 2011

Frog God Games is pleased to announce a number of updates for March. First, I want to let all of you patient patrons to know that the Swords and Wizardry hardcovers have shipped from the printer to Matt for signing, and that they will be to you in under three weeks. Thank you again for your patience, but we wanted top ensure that the book you received was of high quality and without flaw. These books have a matte finish, similar to the old 1st Edition D&D books. They are beautiful, and I hope you all judge that it was worth the wait.

On that note, I was able to obtain a limited quantity of flawed hardcovers (slight warp in the cover stock), and will be offering them at a steep discount ($20) to those of you who want a play copy of the hardcover rules. These books are really nice, but do have a slight outward pull on the covers, resulting in me rejecting them as our limited edition release. They are otherwise in perfect condition. Honestly, most companies would have just sold them as the limiteds, but we chose not to. These books have a high gloss finish to distinguish them from the limited editions.

I have completed price analysis and obtained printing quotes of Tome of Horrors Complete and am able to price the pre-order books at $89.99 and will end June 1, 2011. Non-pre-orders will be $99.99. This huge volume will encompass all three of the Necromancer Games Tome of Horrors books into one giant “Necronomican-like” Tome. It can be used as a weapon against players of all levels, either as an in-game tool or as a bludgeon (it will weigh several pounds). Page count is estimated at over 1000, ands the book will be cloth stitch (Smythe) bound for durability. No other monster book ever produced will have the “Thud factor” of this tome. Release date is estimated as August 1, 2011.

Other major releases this week include:

The Northland Saga
This series of adventures takes place in the frozen north, where men are men, beer is ale and monsters are, well, scary. Who has not loved the setting of the 13th Warrior or wished to relive the Frost Giant’s Daughter by R.E. Howard? Heroes will fight evil in the cold lands, sail the treacherous ice filled seas where sea monsters swallow ships and crews and feast in fire-lit halls with Vikings! Planned as a series of 10 modules, this series will begin in January (appropriately, due to the cold). More information will be added as it becomes available. Written by Ken Spencer, this series is sure to send shivers up even the bravest adventurer’s spine! It all begins this week with Part 1 –

Vengeance of the Long Serpent

Pull on your hauberk, ready your shield, and take up your axe, the tide is moving
out and it is time to set sail on a voyage of adventure. In Vengeance of the Long
Serpent the heroes sail north into a land of murder, savagery, and madness to face a reawakened dark god and his deadly cult.

One Night Stands
Remember when the world was a sandbox and you just inserted modules into your campaign whenever and wherever you wanted to? Remember when companies like Judges Guild and TSR produced short stand alone modules, not tied to any setting or campaign? Remember when the cost 5 bucks (ok we can’t do print books for 5 bucks anymore , but we can do that for the pdfs)? Remember when you directed the action independent of what the “world” rules said was there? We do, and in response we decided to fill the gap with our One Night Stands and Saturday Night Specials series.

These modules are designed to be played over the course of 1-2 nights. Each is a sandbox style short adventure (One Night Stands) or a short dungeon crawl (Saturday Night Specials). This series begins this week with the first one Night Stands Release –

The Jungle Ruins of Madaro-Shanti

Another of the One Night Stand Series, Jungle Ruins of Madaro-Shanti is an adventure for a party of 4-8 characters of fourth through seventh level. A century ago or more, when the town of Cholagadi was just a frontier fort on the coast, Madaro-Shanti was the most powerful city-state in the entire Ambicuaria Jungle. Its citizens were highly advanced in the arts of magic, and even retained some vestiges of magical quasi-technologies perhaps more ancient than humankind itself. Their prosperity made for jealous enemies, none more covetous than the powerful and sorcerous Kiengaa Tribe of the deep jungles. The Kiengaa plotted against Madaro-Shanti, making dark pacts with the monstrous ape-centaurs known as the Borsin, and with the monkey-faced, snake-like monsters known as the Hanu-Naga. Once this terrible, unnatural army was gathered, the Kiengaa and their allies laid siege to Madaro-Shanti itself.

As the walls of Madaro-Shanti fell, and the invaders swarmed into the city, the high priest of the city closed himself within the royal shrine, praying to all the gods for intervention. Yet none of the gods answered his prayers until the last – and that was Ojala, whom the people of Madaro-Shanti knew as a god of evil and treachery. A deadly bargain was struck that night, and true to his promise, Ojala caused a horrible wasting disease to strike the besieging army. But the full extent of the evil god’s treachery became clear when the surviving people of Madaro-Shanti themselves began to succumb to the same disease which had slain their enemies. Within a fortnight, all the people of Madaro-Shanti had either died of the plague or scattered into the depths of the predator-filled jungle.

In only a few years, the city was overgrown by the jungle and fell into ruin, but the magical disease was to have one final consequence. Not only did the contagion affect the Kiengaa and the Madaro-Shanti – it also infected the mind of a powerful nature-spirit that inhabited the surrounding jungles. The nature-spirit Cho-Odaa, driven mad by the disease and hungry for vengeance against all humankind, has discovered the means to exact a terrible reckoning.

Once again, I told you….DON’T GO DOWN THE WELL!

Our next release this week is the 5th installment of our Splinters of Faith series.

Splinters of Faith 5: Eclipse of the Hearth (Levels 5 through 7)

The pyramid Seraph, once a holy temple, now lies under the sway of darkness. Breaking into the temple is hard enough, but braving the sinister twists awaiting in the dark catacombs will test the strongest PCs. This one features some difficult puzzles, and is sure to test the brains of your players. The foolish will be dead, and the wise shall be richly rewarded!

Sell buttons etc. will all be up soon. The series books will ship in about 7 days. Next up and coming in early April will be Hex Crawl Classics Book 1- Valley of the Hawks, Splinters of Faith 6, Saturday Night Specials Castle Baldemor and Hollow Mountain, and last but not least the 9th installment of Slumbering Tsar!

That's a good question! There's two options now. There was only one when I first ordered. I assume there's a way to get that clarified.

I expect Bill is going to have to ask everyone who hit the button when only one existed as to which version they wanted, so if you want to go ahead and e-mail him at bill@talesofthefroggod.com it would help him to start compiling that list.

Question for Bill, or Greg if you know. Would an APO address count as US or International for the purpose of shipping?

APO always counts as a US address, because the shipment goes to a US address when the military picks it up. If any place tries to charge you international price on shipping you can call foul on them.

Yes, but PLEASE make sure you use "USA" as your country, NOT the country you are stationed in.

I figure that's the answer, but just wanted confirmation from FGG.

March 15, 2011

Its the Ides of March, Hail Caeser! Several bits of news today; Matt has shipped me the limited edition hardcovers, which means I'll be firing up my signing pen and mailing them to you guys! I shipped out the flawed hardcovers today, only a few left...and the new books have been printed (Northland 1, ONS-Madaro Shanti, Splinters 5) and are shiping to me (and then to you) very soon. Tsar 8 is in printing, and I am final editing Hex Crawls 1. Hex Crawls is even better than I remembered when I read the draft. Next up are a couple short modules (One Night Stands and Sat Nite's), the Ultimate Book of Adventure Design, and another Hex Crawl (2) and finally Tsar 9...whew. We are getting extremely low on several modules (Ursined, Splinters 1-2, and Tsar 1-3), so if you want them, get them before they are gone. Same goes for the SW legacy products, there are very few copies left of these as well (<30 of each). Thanks again for your patronage, we appreciate it!

ps--Active Duty Military at an APO pays no postage...its on me. You guys take bullets for us, its the least we can do.

SW Limited Edition Hardcovers are shipping tomorrow--I received them last night and started signing them!

This was posted on the Necromancer messageboards and I have just noticed that it never made it here.

Update for Slumbering Tsar 9 by Greg Vaughan dated 4/25/2011(*edited slightly to make sure I don't get whacked by Ross*):

"Right now I'm shooting for end of June. I know, not promising, but TOH Comoplete is a big, bad bear that is kicking my *tail*. That date is based on having TOH complete by end of May (hopefully sooner, fingers crossed) which Bill is wanting for a Gen Con release and then Chuck being able to do layout while the TOH bear takes a turn at biting him. So even it is a bit speculative. That said, once TOH is done, there is nothing but ST left to do, which should put it back on a regular (possibly even accelerated) schedule as opposed to the dribs and drabs you guys have been aflicted with for the past few months. On a positive note, art is already underway for ST9 and maps are done. I really appreciate the patience guys you have all shown and apologize for the current delays. I am swearing off ever doing two major projects at once again; I'm not going to have enough butt left for a bear to chew on."

Frog God Games

Thanks, DS. That post actually still looks good as far as timetables. I've only got one more of the appendices for the TOH Complete to format and do the initial edit, and then it and the last 10 letters to go through final edits and then its off to Chuck for layout. So I think we're still looking good for end of May to have it in for layout. [knocks on wood]

That said, once I have the fnal appendix through its formating and initial edit, I will have the TOC complete (sans page numbers of course). So I'm planning to post the Tome of Horrors Complete TOC here in the next few days as a sneak preview so everyone can exactly what is in the book and how it's arranged. Right now the TOC is a 15-page, single-column, single-space document in a 10-point font on my hard drive. It will of course be compressed quite a bit for publication (multiple columns and whatnot), but that gives you an idea of how much information we're talking about.

Anyway, I think it's pretty cool and gives you an idea of the true scope of the book. Stay tuned. ;-)
