Will the special edition match the theme of the Player Core and GM Core books? Dark green with embossed/indented dragons covers? I've been waiting for the picture to update to make sure it does follow the theme as I prefer it compared to the old Special Edition formats (the current picture with just the green and gold text), and I just received my order confirmation email today. I remember reading somewhere that it does but I can't recall exactly where.

Reached out to Customer Service by email to ask, and they confirmed the special edition cover matches the Player Core and GM Core (and updated the picture on this listing, too!)

This all dependant on if distributors and local gaming store are interested in ordering the books. The Sketch books have been released internationally, Paizo presented their catalogs to distributors, that have presented what they were interested in distributing to the stores.
This is a multi-steps chain, and there's a lot of "breaking points", and most of those are outside of Paizo's direct sphere of influence. Sadly.Like, I have heard about distributors setting up "order quotas" that stores had to fulfill to be able to order the sketch books.
From what I know, Paizo can ask them to not do it, but outside of outright refusing to sell them the book, which would be counter-productive, Paizo can't force any distributor to do anything. :(
As customers, the only thing we can do is to ask the stores to ask their distributors, and hope that enough stores ask enough time for the distributors to see that they could make money by distributing these books more widely.
Note: This is from what I heard. It might not 100% reflect the exact reality. But I think it's close enough to what's happening in the "distribution black box".
Also, to point that every links in that chain basically believe that they are doing the best they can to protect their interests, with the info they have. I don't believe that they are necessarily malicious. (Just making sure that it gets across, as the internet is bad to convey tone!)
The best things we can do on our side is to try to feed the chain with info that might help them see that helping us will be profitable.
