Key monsters and NPCs from the Ruins of Azlant Adventure Path come alive on your tabletop with the Ruins of Azlant Pawn Collection, featuring more than 100 creature pawns for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game or any tabletop fantasy RPG! Printed on sturdy cardstock, each pawn presents a beautiful full-color image of a monster or NPC from the Ruins of Azlant campaign, including aquatic horrors, bizarre beasts, exquisite clockworks, and dozens of unique creatures. The pawns each slot into a size-appropriate plastic base from any of the Bestiary Box collections, making the pawns easy to mix with traditional metal or plastic miniatures. The Ruins of Azlant Pawn Collection, together with the creatures and characters from the Pathfinder Pawns: Bestiary Box and Pathfinder Pawns: NPC Codex Box collections, provides pawns from all six adventures of the Ruins of Azlant Adventure Path.

It seems odd/bad that the support products (maps, pawns...) aren't available until months after the AP is. I am putting together a group to do Ruins of Azlant asap and would love to have the support materials. I would think that having it all available on AP launch day just makes sense.

Well, it wouldn't, because the way publishing works, you don't get art and maps for all AP adventures up front. Besides, running the AP until you have all 6 adventures is a bad idea anyway.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Well, at least the month the 6th book ships.

Yes, what the toothy bag says. You can't print pawns until the art is in, and you can't have the art in before the AP starts.

Well they could but Paizo would have to be even further ahead with their side of the production than they already are... which would mean effectively sitting on product that they could otherwise be printing and selling which is probably not a viable long-term option for them.

EDIT (for clarity): I mean that they could release the pawns, maps, etc. at the same time as the the first volume of the AP but it would require being so far ahead in the production of the APs that all the art was already in in time to get the pawns, maps, etc. in production in time for release. This would necessitate effectively sitting on the APs for a number of months.

And paying for art even FURTHER ahead of schedule, with LONGER between payment and return on investment.

And that too...

I never meant to say it was a good idea... :)

Good explanations, folks. Thanks for the back up!

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I've definitely decided that future APs will wait on all available materials. That's why RoA is currently off the table. CoCT and Ironfang are my next look for a late November start.

Once you think about the complications involved with getting these support products out, it's almost a no-brainer why it takes so long.

Thank you Adam. You brought a smile to my face this evening.

Dark Archive

It seems to me that the gap between the sixth part of an AP & the release of the pawns has gotten bigger with this release.
Wasn't it the same month or one after with Ironfang Invasion?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Ironfang was just last month. Well, it was the "early November" shipment, and the order was cut on October 27.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Which is the month of book 4 of the following AP, as will be RoA's. I don't know what it was like prior to a couple years ago, when I started subscribing, however.
