Avert Catastrophe!

The insidious alghollthus who sank Azlant beneath the treacherous ocean in ancient times mobilize their forces even as the heroes close on their enemies for a final confrontation. After preparing their allies for the impending assault, the heroes must fight their way through the submerged ruins of an ancient weapons facility packed with dangerous guardians and unstable magic to stop their monstrous foe before the veiled master unleashes a devastating eldritch attack to reignite the war against humanity, plunging the world into chaos just as the alghollthus did when they brought Azlant to ruin so long ago.

This volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path concludes the Ruins of Azlant Adventure Path and includes:

  • "Beyond the Veiled Past," a thrilling Pathfinder adventure for 15th-level characters, by Thurston Hillman.
  • Ways to continue your campaign as well as information on the catastrophic results if the heroes fail, by Robert Brookes.
  • A glimpse at some of the nefarious plots of the cunning veiled masters, by Robert Brookes.
  • An exploration of what it would be like for an ancient Azlanti to suddenly awaken in modern-day Golarion, by Eleanor Ferron.
  • A bestiary of both dangerous and friendly monsters, by Thurston Hillman, Crystal Malarsky, and Scott Sharplin.

I wonder if we'll find out who the true masters of the aboleth race are in this (there are plenty of hints so far that the veiled masters ain't it).

Generic,

Maybe it's a race of aquatic gerbils...

They have three eyes, Boo, go for them all!!

*battle squeak*

Boo, what is that stench of evil you are emitting?

*mesmeric squeak*

Yes, Boo, I am yours to command.

*Boss Squeak*

*Friendly fire TPK ensues*

Boo would never submit to evil. Buttkicking for goodness!

If Boo was a veiled master hamster ...

I'm 99.999 sure Boo isn't related to the aquatic master race for aboleths...

As if I wasn't pumped for this already! I really hope that there's at least a brief timeline of Azlant to go along with the campaign advice.

So you're not certain! You don't even know for a fact! There are dissenting opinions! Teach the controversy!

I'm more certain than you are...

Hmm... "Beyond the past" and "Adventures in Historic Azlant" article... could it be possible that some of the unstable magic sends the PCs back in time? At least for short stints or at least cutscenes?

I always enjoy those scenes when the PCs explore an ancient ruin and then through some magic or another get a glimpse of the place's past, only to see it crumble away again right in front of their eyes. So eerie!

As long as the "doom" that they're bringing to Humanity isn't another meteor, I'll be happy. We already have 2 other "Rocks fall, everyone dies" adventures in Ironfang Invasion and Second Darkness. I want something different for my mass-extinction event this time. How about a magically-engineered plague?

Wonder if there is a Golarion-equivalence to Earth's Ring of Fire. That'd be pretty manageable from the depths of the seas.

Kind of wondering if masters of Aboleths are even aboleths .-.

I mean, article on them makes it sound like each category of aboleth is meant for very specific purpose ._. Like it doesn't sound like castes, it sounds like genetic engineering

In the Bestiary at the end (of module 1), there's a monster that was genetically engineered by Aboleths... which is also an Aboleth.

Maybe we should be thinking of Aboleth less as a Species name and more like an infraorder, like Simians?

The "family" name for creatures like aboleths, veiled masters, and omnipaths is alghollthu.

Can I get a pronunciation guide for that?

I say it like: ahl-GAUL-thoo.

Although, after typing that out, I realized I sometimes say ahl-GOAL-thoo.

Could it possibly be pronounced "Ah-GAH-thaul?" Because that's how I've been pronouncing it in my head. Maybe there are some silent letters? or they have a heavy accent?

It doesn't matter how you pronounce their name, what matters is how quickly you kill them before they mind control you or somebody you know;)

When I grow up I wanna be a Blitzball!

I saw earlier in the year Adam estimated this book would likely end at level 17. Do we have confirmation as to whether level 17 is the true final level?

I'm still finishing up development on this one, and 17th is looking right according to my math.

It's three-headed, it's called Lusca, it hails from Caribbean cryptozoology and it was featured several times in Pathfinder artwork, most notably in Skulls 'n' Shackles and related books.

Linked to stat block, first statted up in Isles of the Shackles, later published in Bestiary 5.

I was doing okay until you did that, Dark.

Why?:
Darkbridger is referring to a Giant Monster that would spawn randomly in a zone in a now-defunct superhero MMO. It was a pain in the butt to fight even with bunches of superheros showing up, and even the most experienced players with lots of things stacked on them buff-wise could get one-shot by it. RIP, City of Heroes/Villains/Praetorians

That is a cool cover, but also the red and green combo makes him look quite Christmassy. :)

Probably broke word count, or it's something that they didn't want to invest too heavily in.

We slightly tweaked the idea for the article over the course of developing the Adventure Path. I didn't feel six pages was sufficient for the original topic.
