Available Formats
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook is also available as:
GOOD:
Half of what the HC costs.
Binding (18 x 32 pages glued to the spine) and cover (thicker softcover) are sturdy.
21,3cm (8,4 inches) high, 16,5cm (5,5 inches) wide and 2,5cm (1 inch) thick.
I´m able to hold it in one hand, opened or closed.
BAD:
I am able to read it, but it IS small. Not for everyone.
There is product advertisement for the Bestiary on the last page, but only for the HC, not for the pocket edition.
It won´t stay open when you open it flat to the first or last chapters.
UGLY: -
I would still recommend
the hardcover for when at home, but this is a nice alternative for traveling GMs or people with small budget.
Worth it!
EDIT: i now have this for 6 months and it still looks like on day 1!
I´m a traveling GM, so this gets a lot of use and handling, but thanks to the pre-creased folds this book is in a better condition than the hardcover!
I upgraded my rating from 4 to 5 stars!
That "next print run" was some time ago. It looks like Paizo must still have plenty of these books in stock, as there is no "backorder" or "unavailable" indicator at the top of this page.

Ok. I was just going off of what my FLGS said. I'll check with them again.
It's a whole... thing. But the short version is that this is kind of out of date. The updated book is Player Core (and the pocket edition).
If you're looking to surprise your boyfriend by buying your own books so you can join in his hobby, you probably want Player Core. If you're looking to surprise him with a gift for him you probably don't, because he almost certainly already has that. If he's a GM I recommend NPC Core, which is a neat book for GMs and also new so he's less likely to already have it. Otherwise... maybe War of Immortals? Hard to say without knowing what he already owns.
