Whether your party's tracking a gang of notorious thieves or hiding out from the law themselves, no Game Master wants to spend time drawing every cluttered alley and squalid flophouse. Fortunately, with Paizo's latest Pathfinder Flip-Mat, you don't have to! This line of gaming maps provides ready-to-use fantasy set pieces for the busy Game Master. Full of beautiful details, including a battered gatehouse, dozens of hovels, and mazelike backstreets, this double-sided map makes the perfect setting for forays into any city's seamier side!
Don't waste your time sketching when you could be playing. With Pathfinder Flip-Mat: Slum Quarter, you'll be prepared next time your players head to the wrong side of town!
I've used the Slum Quarter flip-mat several times while running Curse of the Crimson Throne, especially for any scenes set in Old Korvosa. Each side of the flip-mat depicts a collection of small homes from a top-down view, with interiors available for all but a few at the edges of the map. The interiors are fairly detailed, and you can make out beds, tables, trunks, etc. The difference between the two sides is that one is set near a gated city wall, while the other is bisected by a river. Although the flip-mat is certainly useful, when I look at it I don't see a lot that jumps out as being particularly "slumlike" compared to any generic pseudo-medieval fantasy city. All the buildings have nice straight intact walls, there aren't piles of garbage or open sewers in the streets, the interiors look reasonably well-appointed, and so forth. More abandoned buildings, more crude shacks and hovels, more chaos, etc., would better fit the flip-mat's theme.
I used this great flipmat for the area of Xin-Shalast (Rise of the Runelords AP, The Spires of Xin-Shalast) where 'The Spared' reside. The players loved it, and so did I. Small pathways between shacks make combat very different. Highly recommended!
It happens a lot, you have to go into some dark seedy area that no one likes going into at night. This has been my go-to map for those areas, its a lot of small tight spaces, random nooks and crannies, and buildings a plenty without resorting to the map tiles.
Nice! Could one side of this map actually be the missing puzzle piece to the Warehouse + Pub Crawl + Red Light District MEGA MAP? That would be sooooo awesome! :)

I agree with you.
It could be.
I guess we will have to wait for the final image/product description...

I guess we are both anxiously awaiting those images then. Hopefully the Powers That Be that gave the "go ahead" for this one were thinking along the same lines as us! :-)
I guess the preview images answer the question as to whether this map links up to the aforementioned city set...and it's a resounding "NO". (BOOOOO!)
It really seems like a wasted opportunity, all the more-so since this would have worked very well with only relatively minor adjustments to the existing (and might I add beautiful) artwork on one side of the map. (Shifting the orientation of the winding canal to make it divide the map horizontally instead of vertically and then adjusting the edges of the map to tile with the other two maps.) A pity...
Still gonna buy it though! Who knows, maybe the "Slum Quarter Alleys" map pack will contain appropriate connecting tiles...
