In the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, evil is brewing. An attack by crazed goblins heralds the shadows of forgotten past returning to threaten the town- and perhaps all of Varisia.

Starting the discussion thread in the event of things that need to be talked out. Don't hesitate to bring any issues forward!

Male Human Cleric/1 (HP 10/10 | AC:18 | T:11 | FF:17 | CMB: 3 | CMD:14 | Fort:+5 | Ref:+1 | Will:+4 | Init:+5 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30)

Really should consider breaking initiative into groups so to avoid waits like this.

I agree completely. Breaking it up into groups works better for PBP; as Jovalson has mentioned in an earlier post, not all of us log in at the same time, so sticking to the initiative system as it is could lead to unnecessary waits.

Thirded.

Also, maybe an egg timer rule of some sort? Not literally, obviously, but maybe if you don't post in forty-eight hours, the GM has permission to bot your character for a post? I dunno.

I like that idea, but maybe we should have it at 12 or 24 hours instead 48, as to not stall things in combat for too long.

Sounds like something that I could work with. We'll need to brainstorm it further before we do anything major.

Karl Sarvo wrote:

I was only proposing 48 as an extreme. My preference would be 24.

How much longer should we wait? I'm itching to go with my +20 bonus.

As per the GM's suggestion here are my ideas for how we can make combat move faster, mind you they aren't the most original, as they have been implemented in other threads, but they seem to work fine in speeding things along for PBP rpgs.

1-Turns are broken up into brackets; since the mobs have static initiative the players will be separated into several groups depending on their initiative roll, with some going before and some going after the mobs.

2-Anyone in these groups can post at anytime as long as its the groups turn, this way our conflicting timezones won't slow the game down.

3-If someone doesn't post in 12 or 24 hours(We can decide on which is preferable) The GM will bot the character to keep things moving and not slow combat down.

4-In case the player gives a heads up that he/she will be unable to post for X number of days the gm will bot the character without waiting for 12 or 24 hours.

5-If the player misses two turns in a row, the gm will utilize suggestion number 4.

If I may add one more suggestion that isn't related to combat specifically but is connected to the posting speed of the game, once more if a player informs everyone that he will be gone for X amount of time, his character will be assumed to be away from the group on personal business, when the player returns, the character can immediately return to the group(Also it should make for some interesting scenarios where the character returns to the group in the middle of a battle and can have a heroic moment).

Before I end this long-winded post I'd like to state the obvious to anyone who didn't know.Play by Post games are not known to make it far; games slow down, people start losing interest, gms start losing interest and so on and so forth. I believe that we have all the components to avert this; our gm makes great and unique posts and also posts frequently, our characters are diverse and interesting and we as players also make very frequent posts, I really think we can keep this from slowing down which would lead to people losing interest, so please if anyone has any further suggestions, share them, anything that could make this a better experience and a fast paced game is I am sure welcome by all, so far I've been really enjoying myself and I hope that we can keep this thing going.

You can boo me off the stage now.

On the contrary, friendo, there will be no booing going on here.

I agree on all points. And I would add that I can't believe my luck. It's not often that I strike gold on my first go-'round, especially where complete strangers are involved, but I totally hit the jackpot with you guys. :D

Well that's one applaud, LOL. In all seriousness I am glad you liked my suggestions.

I'll add that I'm liking the friction between our two characters as well. There's something subtly thrilling to me about playing a character with a deeply adversarial relationship toward another PC. It's like, "Dude, we're totally roleplaying!" You know?

Did Father Zantus have anything to say back to me?

I like the interaction between Karl and Nante too; after all most adventuring groups have those two guys that don't see eye to eye...I guess we ended up being those two guys, LOL.

@Jovalson: I'll get on that tomorrow, first thing in the morning. I gotta hit the sack...

Did we get any loot from the goblins?

Sheriff Hemlock had anything of use (weapons to be eventually broken down into scrap metal, coinage, etc.) put in the barracks. You could probably meet him tomorrow (in-game)

That sneaky thief!!! Here I thought I had the Cad archetype!

Okay guys from now on we search every body we drop to the ground and every body we don't drop to the ground!

I like how Karlesque that sounds. ;)

LOL, Thank you.

Tried a slightly more literary approach to my latest post. As an aspiring writer, I'd be curious to hear if everyone got what I was going for.

GM are you still with us?

Looking at his recent posts, it appears he had a lot of trouble with a Harrow deck in his other campaign, and ended up not being able to post here before he went to bed. Which is understandable.

Oh okay, sorry I've had one too many games where the gm suddenly disappears without any warning and it has made me nervous whenever the games I am in suddenly slow down because of no activity from the GM.

Yep. I try to be in multiple campaigns to average it out.

I will be unable to post tomorrow (Saturday). Feel free to NPC me should it be necessary.

Sorry for not responding guys! Like Nante said, I had a bit of trouble with a Harrow deck in another campaign. I swear to God that if I don't find an easier way to manage the thing, I'm gonna have an aneurysm...

But yeah, I'm still alive. So now that everyone's awake, do you want me to exposition the early morning hours of the day?

PfftAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"Elvish." That made me laugh.

I'm gonna be doing some college-related stuff for the majority of the day (4/13), so don't expect long-winded posts from me until...eh, late in the evening after I check into my hotel. That being said, please don't take my brief hiatus as a sign that my internet persona has died.

Until the next post,

I say we take this time to get everyone walking toward the sherriff's office. Any objections?

Karl's already heading there, so I'll see you all on the dusty trail.

Yo, GM. It occurs to me that Hemlock and Nante are both Shoanti. If you weren't already planning to do something with that, I think it might be a cool move.

@Ffordessoon:Sh!!! Don't spoil the surprise! XD

You still good to go, GM?

Yeah. Took me forever to find a wi-fi spot where I'm vacationing.

Ah. I feel you.

I'm assuming the break in posting is because of Easter, but I'm poking y'all with a stick to be sure. :)

Ouch! Hey! *pokes back with his own stick* Lets see how you like it!!!!

I am away until Thursday, may be able to post from gadgets, but can't guarantee. Krissina will try and keep busy, and will go along with the group if they get it together.

"points finger, unleashes ray of sickly golden light at annoying, poking dwarf... Dwarf shrinks."

Everything okay GM?

Yeah. I gotta prepare for the last exams I will ever take in high school...f*ck AP exams and finals...but at least I'm going to college. I'll update as soon as I can.

Good luck on your finals GM, you don't have to post if it will take into your studying time. Just give us a date on when you'll be back and we'll be fine.

I'm updating as I type this. I'm on my lunch break, which is a breath of fresh air after back-to-back classes.

So here's a roleplaying quandary.

You know how you said I should make a Diplomacy check to avoid pissing off Hemlock, GM? There's, er, a bit of a problem with that. One that could maybe affect the entire party.

See, Hemlock just pressed Nante's rage button himself. As a roleplayer, the correct response on my part would be to have Nante chew him out for betraying his heritage. As a member of a group that needs access to Hemlock, though, screaming at him would be a bad move.

Do I play my role or avoid making the quest-giver mad?

I personally think you should go with whatever your character might do, I'd hardly call it ruining things for the party if it is just Nante and Hemlock are the ones ending up not seeing eye to eye.

Are you still playing through morning conversation or is it post lunch yet?
The play thread is a big wall of spoilers...

Hmmm...for continuity's sake, it's still morning conversation for the boys. Think we can insert Kriss in a different place/time? I may need to think on this one for a bit...

Has anyone seen Jovalson? He hasn't posted for a while...

that's right...
