Oh I LOOOOOVE the Wendigo.
I've actually implemented the legend in my game that if you say wendigo at night you WILL be attacked by one. It's good clean fun :)
I'm also really looking forward to how couatl get detailed.
Actually one pair I'm surprised you didn't decide to give more detail is scylla and charibdis. Maybe later :)

There's a LOT of monsters we could have put in this book. Scylla and charibdis haven't been in the game long enough to deserve a spot, basically... if we'd had room for two more, those spots would have probably been filled by pegasus and unicorn, I suspect. Or maybe basilisks or gorgons or gremlins or centarus or manticores or ...

AWESOME!!!
1)Chimera-yes, love some variants on this one
2)Couatl-yes
3)Griffon-yes
4)Harpy-yes, maybe we will see a goodlooking variant
5)Hydra-yes, poisonus poisonus
6)Kraken-yes
7)Medusa-yes, are there still male versions
8)Pheonix-one of my favorites
9)Sphinx-yes
10)Wendigo- what, no Scylla or Charibdis, well can't win em all

Also, since the book's not called "Classic Greek and Roman Monsters" we wanted to mix things up a bit. Another good reason not to include scylla or charibdis AND to go beyond the Mediterranean into somewhere new. Like North America.

There are 9 names in that list there. Only one more and you've got the perfect list for the next book, Legendary Monsters Revisited.
Let the speculations for #10 begin!
Also, what about hippogriffs, or will they be covered here alongside griffons?

This is going to be LEGENDARY. Both a totally true fact, and a prediction.
Hmmm... LEGENDARY you say? :)
But seriously, THIS product is going to rock your socks off. I've enjoyed working on a number of the Revisited books, but as an old mythology fan (like a lot of gamers, I'd guess), this one was near and dear to my heart and I enjoyed working on the 3 monsters I did. I think you will be pleased (and suitably horrified where appropriate) at the final results!

Any chance we'll be seeing the snake bodied Harryhausen style Medusa?
There's always a chance. I would place it somewhere between 0 out of 100 and 100 out of 100. :)
and there are still enough Monsters of Myth left to do a second book
Probably so. James already listed off like 9 more. That's almost a book right there!

Yeah there are plenty of monsters to do several books like this one. But they do not like "sequals" at Paizo so the other books would have different names then "Mythological monsters revisited 2". I would still love to see "Classic Fey revisited" or a "Guide to the first world". But this one is defenitly interesting, much better than another undead book or devil/demons book. I still wish for another misfit monsters redeemed but I can't think of enough monsters from D&D's past for another book.

Really happy to see this one. :)
Aside from the usual suspects(that I'm still glad to see represented), it's awesome to see couatls and wendigos on the list. There's a lot of potential fun to be had in exploring the former in particular, especially their mindset. I mean, they're benevolent LG creatures. But they also eat people. Evil ones, yes, but still...
Really looking forward to them and the medusa's entry, to further flesh out my "serpent continent".
A harpy is fine too. ;)

I love you guys. I can honestly say that I have yet to have a bad word to say about the Pathfinder world setting.
With some luck, and a LOT of hard work and dedication I'm hoping to eventually get something published with Paizo, or even become part of the team.
But enough about that. If they put out multiple mythical monster (heh, alliteration) books I guarantee that I'd drop the money for them.

16 months down the line and boy am I glad I changed to Pathfinder.
"Adds to Cart" :-)
Suppose the next one would be something like Cryptids rediscovered or Lengends Retold?
Had been hoping for this to come out for a while, as I love my Monster Mythos.
Once again I reiterate my requests for the two most popular 'revisited' lines from other threads I've posted on:
Fey Revisited
(Dryad, Nymph, Lurker in Light, Spriggan, Gremlin, Nucklavee, Quickling, Satyr, Kelpie, Pech)
Giants Revisited
(Cyclops, Kaiju, Titans, plus Marsh, Storm, Frost, Cloud, Forest, Stone and Rune Giant)
Oh and lets not forget:
Strange creatures revisited
(Will-o-Wisp, Denizen of Leng, Grick, Homunculus, Thoqqua, Doppelganger, Shoggoth, Froghemoth, Treant, Rakshasa)
((okay admittadle I just picked an chose a dream team at random out of my bestiary books for that last one, but whatcha gonna do eh?))

Everything but the harpy is great news. Giants Revisited would be more interesting, I guess they are too high level.
For Fey Revisited there's too many of them, the best are
1) Redcap
2) Atomie
3) Pixie-Booka-Sprite-Shadovig
4) Nixie-Asrai-Nereid-Undine
5) Sith
6) Brownie-Buckawn-Quickling-Killmoulis
7) Treant-Dryad
8) Fomorian
9) Nymph-Rusalka
10) Norns-Wyrd
11) Uldra
12) Pech
13) Kelpie
14) Spriggan
15) Woodwose
16) Genuis Loci-Spirit of the Land
17) Keres
18) Faun-Satyr-Maenads-Bachae
19) Domovoi
20) Korred
21) Leshi
22) Faerie Dragon
23) Ankou
24) Jermalaine
25) Bogle
...
1000) Unicorn
1001) Leprechaun
1002) Pegasus
1003) Selkie
1004) Grig
1005) Swanmay

I think I'd like to see one that gives more details to some of the outsiders that don't have a specific type, such as the Rakshasa, Kyton, Hound of Tindalos, etc.
These might be bad examples because I think the Rakshasa have already been further detailed and the Hound of Tindalos was just recently added to the system, but I stand by it!

Will the book reprint the monsters stats or will they stat up the variants or class level versions?
Of course we do... but only if the stat block is wrapped in a riddle we have to solve to understand it first. :)

The magic 8-ball sez: Yes, yes, yes we do!

I want Sphinx BOOKS. Sphinxs are awesome and rarely get the love they deserve.
