You may have reams of paper monsters to menace your fantasy world, but where are the heroes?

Battle! Studio Paper Minis: Human Adventurers is a collection of 30 easy-to-build paper gaming miniatures, featuring human heroes of all stripes and classes! Many classic fantasy archetypes can be found here, such as the iconic bearded wizard or the wing-helmeted fighting man, but there are also a number of unique and colorful characters to inspire players and game masters alike with new ideas.

Each paper mini comes in two different color variations, as well as a line-art only version, so that you can color them yourself if you so desire. Provided as a high quality 300dpi PDF and scaled at the 1 inch to 5 feet scale used by the world’s most popular fantasy role playing games, they are drawn with just enough detail that all the elements of their design are visible, even when printed and standing an inch high.

As a player, you can use them as you would a sculpted miniature, finding one that best represents your character and coloring it to match – or you could peruse the minis and find one you like, using it as inspiration for a new character. As a GM, you instantly have a large cast of visually unique NPCs that your players will recognize on sight – even if they don’t remember their names! For more fun, you can assign miniatures to your players randomly and have them build characters around whichever ones they end up with!

At about 7 cents a mini, this is a value you should be physically incapable of missing out on! Download your copy today! (Or whenever you get around to it, of course.)

Limited use

3/5

I find that paper minis are excellent for NPCs and monsters. They're cheap, fairly easy to make, light, easy to transport. They're basically perfect, especially for limited use.

The problem with this set is that it's aimed at the PC market. For PCs, I'd rather use plastic or metal minis. They're more durable, less hassle, and look better. I also use paper/metal minis to identify PCs from the NPCs (paper minis).

It's definitely a personal preference, but I just can't take the artwork on these minis seriously. The quality of art is very good, it's just not a style I prefer. The art is also too silly to use for NPCs (I guess it would be ok for a silly NPCS).

So I'm rating this product on the actual use I got out of the product (none so far), not the quality of art (which was excellent), or the quantity of minis (which was quite a few). If you like the art and don't mind the drawbacks of paper minis, you'll like this product.

Great work!

5/5

(Copied from my review of Dwarf adventurers)
These minis are great. I recently went on a (limited) spending spree, buying all sorts of paper miniature-type PDFs (these, Disposable Heroes, Figure Flats, Avalon). After looking through the files for minis matching the PCs in my campaign, the ones that came closest were all from Battle! Studio's two PDFs (although it helped that the current characters are all dwarven or human, plus one female half-orc which I used a human figure for). The other files were all fairly generic, but since these are focused on a single race it gives more room for different and sometimes oddball examples (like the dwarf druid). Now I'm just waiting for the rest of the races to be done!

good set

4/5

This is a great well drawn set. It is done in a nice cartoon style that works really well.
One of the nicest things for my group is going to be the last couple of pages which is in black and white. I know my group are really going to enjoy coloring it. This is a good buy, bought dwarves right after wards now looking forward to elves.

Great set of miniatures

5/5

I got these after getting the Dwarven set. I am very glad I did. I thought it was a bit odd (and disappointing) that the cover character was not a mini in the set. Maybe in a future set...keep them coming!

Great Set

5/5

I'm a big fan of the Pathfinder Paper Minis, but one set I've been hoping for is one for standard PC's. Here we go. For the price you really can't beat this.

I just hope that the name Human Adventurers means non-human adventurers are coming soon.

Finally got these up for sale!

I'd love to hear feedback from anyone who buys these (or at least takes a long, hard look at the cover); especially stories of how you'll be using them in your home games, or the names and personalities you've assigned to the characters within!

(Also, the person above is me! This is the account I use to post on the rest of the forum.)

Sovereign Court

I just had a wonderful promotional idea!

First three people to buy the set and leave a review get a free custom paper mini of their own character, as drawn by me! Just leave a review, and e-mail me at Tim(at)battlestudio(dot)com to redeem your prize - but you must describe one of the characters not included on the cover to prove you bought it!

First one goes to gigglestick! I hope he reads this, I don't know if there's a way to contact people privately on the Paizo messageboard system.

Yes they're very nice doubt I could get anyone I play with to go for one of them but I'll certainly pick up a copy and will post a response as asked above after I do!

Hey who chose the water bender?

Seriously that mini looks an awful like a certain character from Avatar the last Airbender!

There's even an alternative mini that could pass as a firebender, now to find a monk-like mini for the earthbender!

Well, there's the bard with the flute (or fife?) available as a brunette with green pants and a red and yellow tunic/cloak combination OR as a blonde with purple plants and a green and blue tunic/cloak. (And of course in black and white so you can color him yourself).

If you take a look at the pictures, you'll also see that the artist has done a good job of giving some personality and action to the minis. They're not just standing there in a "group pose" shot. Characters are casting spells, or prancing with their flute, or striking a defensive stance or whatever...gives them a little more life...

The style has grown on me even more one of my players has already picked out a counter to represent his charater in in our game.

OK, I'll send you an email from splunge42(at)yahoo(dot)com

And do you do commissioned sets of mins?

Sovereign Court

All right! One free mini review slot left!

I've done some thinking about mini commissions, but I don't have anything set in stone yet - I was thinking I would offer to do them, but I would do them for cheaper if the commissioner allowed me to include them as part of a later set for sale (though that may have some messy copyright implications, and if that's the case I should probably not do that!)

Also, I'm gonna start work on the first set of demi-humans right away. The next set was going to be Dwarven Adventurers, unless people would much rather I do a different race first!

Also, gigglestick, I'm interested to know which mini your player picked!

The "scientist-alchemist" looking character. We needed another alchemist character and that fit perfectly. (Not sure which color scheme yet...)

And I think that its a great idea to include "commissioned" characters in future sets. with a quick color swap you can do all sorts of things.

Sovereign Court

And the third custom mini goes to Mike Smith!

I suppose it'd be no problem including commissioned minis so long as I can get the commissioner to agree beforehand that the mini will go into the set (and that they keep the copyright to the character designs).

Sovereign Court

Next set coming up is Dwarven Adventurers - It'll contain 20 minis and cost 1.49. I've already sketched and inked five of them - they should be done and available for sale within the next couple of weeks!

BTW - Tim is doing a set of minis for me for a few of the games I play or GM in. So far, he's done a Changleing Witch, Human Fighter, Halforc Barbarian, Goblin Monk, Varisian Magus, Elven Conjurer, Pseudodragon, and Cat Familiar. They all look GREAT!

And all this in less than a week.

I'll be posting them to my minis page with a link once they are complete. I'd recommend his work to anyone who wants a mini for their games. Tim was both quick and precise and he put up with little nitpicky changes (can we get different hair, can we add a wand tucked in the belt, can we change the color of the spell effect) from me with excellent results...

And they look good with these minis (and the other paper mini sets) already, just from the mockups.

OK. Here are the minis they did for me.

I liked the nice detail (Cyrdak's wand tucked into his belt, the crosspiece of Varn's sword and the handaxes at his waist, Goryll's Armor: a certain breastplate from a haunted forest, the cute eyes on Pilcher and Bluewing, the action post for Greenteeth, and the gear on Estle and Lliovynn that matches their present kit.)

Link

These might show up in future sets. (Though they make up a single page, so he might be willing to sell you that page if you ask now...)

I'm looking forward to his next set. I think it's dwarves.

And he's going to finish a second set for my games (female gnome rogue, female human cleric of Shelyn, female halfelf sorceress, halfogre fighter, kobold ranger, hatchling speckled white dragon...) later on...

Those are awesome. Tim is really talented. Once I get my life in order I need to commission some minis.

He's very affordable and has been receptive and helpful with specific changes. Which is important when putting together specific characters. Let's face it, we all have some sort of idea of what a character looks like. For example, you'll notice that Rynna and Moga both got "smilyer" in the final products. Because Rynna is the bubbly member of the group and Moga just enjoys being an adventurer. Both of them have "happy" personalities.

You'll also see little things like arm changes, extra equipment added (like the paintbrushes Kaerla uses as hair sticks, Lliovynn's wands, Varn's necklace, etc.), and if you look, Moga got a little "broader". And I'm nitpicky, so if he put up with my anal-retentiveness, he'll do a lot for someone else.

Once he's done with his next sets (Dwarves and Elves), I also hope to commission some more NPCs and PCs.

I'll keep adding them (and other paper mini sets) I get to the Photobucket page so that people can get a look at how they look assembled...

Of course, I'm a prop whore, so as long as the minis look good, I'll keep buying 'em... Because, as a GM, nothing is cooler than "And the sorcerer looks like THIS!" (Placing Mini on the table).

Sovereign Court

Aw, thanks a lot for the kind words, you guys!

The initial drawings for the dwarf set are almost done. I'm also going to be redoing the cover for this, since I've made a better design in the interim (what's up there is something I just sort of threw together just to get it up).

Sovereign Court

The cover has been redesigned! This one looks much better, I think (especially since I wrangled someone into taking pictures of the minis for me).

Do this include art of the back of each character, or are they double-front only?

Dungeon Grrrl wrote:

these are double front

Sovereign Court

They're double front, though the characters are typically drawn facing the side (or at least looking to the side). I considered drawing the backs of the characters, too, but I figured that people would rather have 30 different characters than the fronts and backs of 15 characters.

While I prefer front and back (or front and black profile for back) double front seems to be the big trend now. And if it gets more minis out faster....GO FOR IT!

DEADLINE TIME:

The Dwarves set will be finished by Sunday, July 10th.

Awesome. Looking forward to it.

IANAL. I would expect that without an explicit agreement otherwise (such as a written employment contract), the copyrights to the images that you create are always yours, like my understanding of how it is for photographers.

That said, there is nothing stopping you from asking people if they would agree to it being a non-exclusive commission, with you retaining all rights to the image(s) that you create for them. Their benefit is that they can get the specific image that they want, which is worth paying for, since most people can't make any such thing. Your benefit is that you can make compilations or derivative works, or post/send/publish them as samples of your work, or whatever and etc., without a second thought.

Sovereign Court

Yeah, that's basically the idea. Someone can commission me to draw their character, Cedric the Copyrighted, and opt for the cheaper "include in set" price - they still own the character of Cedric the Copyrighted and his design, but I get the rights to sell that particular image of him in a PDF of paper minis.

Also, I'm uploading the Dwarves set now; they should be available by tomorrow!

Sovereign Court

A quick note - the cover character is, in fact, a mini in the set. She's doing a different pose in the miniature artwork, in the middle of leaping or running, sword held high with her off hand crackling with magic energy. I believe she appears on the third page.

She's actually a character I made for a home game and never got to use.

I looked for her in a different pose, go figure. I guess I am just taken with the cover pose.

Sovereign Court

If you like, I can finagle the lineart from the cover art into a paper mini if you prefer that pose.

New thread for discussing the upcoming Elves set!

I'd love to see that one done as a mini too...maybe in a future set.

Tim, just purchased and printed your Human set, and I love the images, but...

Could you please change the circles at the bottle of the minis from pure black to an outlined circle or some other pattern that does not kill my black cartridges! Same with the base circles on the side of the sheet!

This is an excellent addition to my mini sets.

Sovereign Court

Paper mini commission information is now publicly available on the Battle! Studio website!

Sovereign Court

The bases have been changed to the new white bases!
