Hi,
I tried contacting Paizo by email a week ago over two issues.

The first issue was a potential missing shipment. That seems to have been resolved, with one out of three parcels arriving over three weeks after the first two. But, the main thing is the parcel arrived.

The second email was regarding the binding on my Starfinder. That has not been responded to and I am too concerned with using the printed book. Can someone please get back to me on the issue

Thanks

GM Hmm

Thanks. Sorry. was not expecting the lottery to be drawn so did not notify anyone I was away, as game was not going at the time. Will keep an eye out

ummm hi.
sorry just got the message as I have been away at work. Is the invite still open for this Starfinder game?

Thanks for the welcome! :)

With regards to characters, I am happy with a pre-gen, or if a mixed tier party is okay with Batpony, I will generate a 1st level. Might as well start with my own character :)

I wouldn't mind seeing what the party needs as I have no fixed character in mind at this point in time, so could plug a gap if needed :)

Greetings one and all.

Just snagged an invitation from GM Batpony to the game.

New to Pathfinder, but am familiar with D20 3.5 ruleset. I know things have changed, but at least I have the basics :)

Old time role player. Cut my teeth on Basic D&D box set and have been gaming various systems since then. Anything from the old FASA Star Trek to White Wolf's World of Darkness, to more recently Modiphiuus's Mutant Chronicles and Savage Worlds.

Trying to crack back into Pathfinder as the world of Golarion seems amazingly rich, and the ruleset seems to have changed a lot. My tabletop group thinks otherwise, so in this respect, we differ. Unfortunately, PbP is going to be my only avenue to Pathfinder in the near future, balancing work and family commitments.

I have taken part in a couple of PbP games so am familiar with the concept, but will have to learn the etiquette of the PFS PbP :) So be gentle

As for character, being new to PFS, I am going to be bringing a new character to the the mix. I have yet to decide :)

@ Helikon.
Many thanks for the link. If it's okay, I will generate a character this weekend and submit in a day or so.

@Talondreal
Many thanks for the link. I have throw my hat in and hope to see what the DM response will be :)

@ DM Hmm
To be honest, I'm not after a fast level up. I am returning to the d20 arena after many many years away. The rich depth and history created in Golarion is the biggest drawcard for me, thus Pathfinder.

I have never had any association with organised play and am intrigued by PFS but find it hard to make face to face PFS games in my area. How do I find out more? And is membership/games in PFS PbP possible without a face to face membership? Would love to find out more

And thanks to all on this thread. Its been the most helpful in trying to establish an identity and pointers as to where I can break into a game! :)

Hey, if you are open for absolute beginners, might I throw my hat in. Have been looking to get into organised PbP games :)
Might need some hand holding to start, but have taken part in PbP games in the old White Wolf WoD and Heavy Gear games.
Returning to the Pathfinder system after a long time away form D20 games in general so, a Core game would be a great re-introduction :)

Going through the various threads and have to admit, Unknown Armies is something I have been told I have to look into by others in my gaming group but I just never got around to checking out. I did pledge for their recent KS but like a lot of my gaming stuff, unless I get some spare time from work, or we play a game, I suspect it is going to stay packed away. :(

However, if PbP does begin, please count this as a most sign of interest.

As for the questions broached above

1] What interests me? Given the game styles you hare listed above as similar themes for Unknown Armies, the things that interest me most is the one thing Man prides itself on, the trappings of 'civilisation' is merely a very thin veneer over a very dark and scary reality. It doesn't take much to brush aside said trappings of civility and dark things often find themselves imposing themselves in what we see as our safe haven.
ie monsters exist. We just choose to ignore or look around them to fit them into our world view.

While I tend to be by and large a fairly optimistic person, I tend to find the more pessimistic approach or outlook on life fascinating. What if vampires exist? What if there was a global conspiracy did exist to keep us from the truth. What is the truth?

For me, horror is not the blood drenched slash of a serial killers knife or the sick and sadistic ways Man's twisted mind is able to devise ways to hurt his kind. or even the sudden twist and turns of a slasher flick where the big bad suddenly jumps out at you from no where.

Rather, horror for me is more personal in nature. Like some of Lovecraft's stories, it is the gradual discovery that the world is not what you have perceived it to be. Add to that the personal nature of corruption on a personal basis as in the Shadows over Innsmouth, and you have the set up for a great horror story.

2] subjects to avoid?
personally there isn't too much that I would avoid. But one needs to be aware of the sensibilities of the other players.

also gratuitous use of sick and demented scenes merely to provoke a response is not warranted, but if there is a reason to run it in story, and it is not overly used, I don't see why not

3] favourite theory. got to to with the x files favourite aliens exist. a grand plan by the powers that be to suppress it.
or alternately, a spin on this is the Monster Hunters International novel series. Monsters exists and there is a grand conspiracy by the governments of the world to suppress it as they do not wish to give credence and power to the supernatural for fear it would prompt the masses to try summoning a greater power from dimensions unknown/unknowable

4] Like the previous members, I like the idea of the horror being personal. While it is great to say there are monsters/aliens/other beings in the world, at the end of the day, the greatest evil lies within. Man is his own biggest enemy, and the horror I see is what man Man is capable of when unfettered by the trappings of civility, or even reality if the case fits.

@ Great Green God
thanks. got that and going through it. Only way I am making sense of the tier system :)

Going to throw my hat in to see if I can join up .

1. Player Name: -lupus-

2. Are you new to PBP, Organized Play, or both? have been in a couple of PbP before using the White Wolf WoD system plus Heavy Gear by DP9. Totally new to Organised Play and unsure what it means.

3. What excites you most about playing in this game? A chance to head back to Pathfinder and Golarion. Great interaction with other gamers, and the collaborative effort of weaving a tale together

4. Tell me a little about yourself! What other games have you played? What are your hobbies?
Too many to list. Started gaming with the Red Box Basic D&D all the way back in the previous millennium. Played way too many games. Sign of a mis spent youth. Most memorable systems where we spent a fair bit of time include FASA Star Trek, Paranoia, Twilight 2000 (1st and 2nd edition); Shadowrun, Cyberpunk 2020; VtM; Original Deadlands

Love to read, novels and comics (less so textbooks and journals). Love to eat :) and the rest of the time is family time. Two kids below 10 years of age, but they seem to be turning 40!!

5. Are you able to post at least once a day? Yes, often more

6. In order to keep the game moving along, sometimes I will DMPC players if a certain amount of time has passed since their last post. Do you give permission for me or the party to "play" your character as needed in combat or another situation?

No problems letting the DM run the scene to keep the momentum going. Nothing worse than getting bogged down waiting for me to log on

7. Do you promise to tell us all about upcoming vacations, busy times at work, conventions or other absences so we can DMPC you?

No vacations until Christmas. Work generally is not bad as I post while at work. Its cool when you are the boss. No conventions, although work has some conferences I will attend. Generally the only down time will be during flights. Only other potential issue is that I am an Aussie, so my hours may be reverse to most US players. But given my erratic hours, hopefully that won't be an issue

Hi,
I am relatively new to Pathfinder, but not a new gamer. I am looking to get into PbP and have been pointed in this direction of PbP gamed in the hope of finding a low level game to get started.

Im not new to RPG, have had a couple of PbP games in other systems, albeit nothing as organised as PFS.

I have no issues with posting multiple times per day, but have little time to dedicate for long face to face game sessions. As such, I am unfamiliar with PFS.

Is there any chance of a potential opening within this table? And what do I need to do to join? :)

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

@ GM Bret
many thanks for the information. makes sense and I guess its a gradual transition into not only PbP, Pathfinder and organised play as well.

Will look for a starter game and hopefully manage to get a character levelled enough to hopefully participate in your game :)

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

@GM Bret:
many thanks for the links. Unfortunately, part of my problem is making it to a fce to face PFS game. There is only one public PFS game in my region, and unfortunately the games are held on a nights, I am unable to get to due to family responsibilities.

I was hoping the freedom of a PbP format would allow me to engage without having to dedicate a solid chunk of time to gaming. Smaller parcels of time for daily posts are usually easier to allocate and find than a dedicated night. Unfortunately, that is one of the reasons I have not engaged in any organised play.

Thanks for the links to the Role Playing Guild Guide. It is good to read and see the expectations and gain a basic understanding of the 'rules'.

With regards to commencing with a lower level game, might I enquire about the benefit of that? Is it a matter of learning the etiquette of a PbP game? Or an issue of 'making my bones' and developing an online reputation before working my way up the organised hierarchy? Or is it a matter of learning the rules?

Happy to consider it, but was curious as to the reasoning. As indicated, I am not a new gamer, but unfortunately an ancient one, having started with Basic D&D red box set many many moons ago. Agreed I am not up to date with the intricacies of Pathfinder, but I also know what I'm like and there is nothing better than on the job training.

@ Terevalis

Many thanks for the link. I will look into it when I get a chance later today.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

Hi!
I would love to be submit my entry into the lottery. To that end, the answers to the question are as follows:

1] Name: Sam

2] I have taken part in a couple of PbP campaigns. One was an old World of Darkness game run on an old Yahoo discussion group. While the other was a PbP run in the Heavy Gear universe via their discussion boards. I am totally new to organised play though.

3] What excites me about playing in this game?
I have always been a fan of the science fantasy genre, and now a game based on a familiar rule set is a great step in the right direction. Having a little less time for face to face games due to a growing family, I am hoping to get my gaming fix partially from a PbP campaign. And finally, it is a chance to jump start my entry into the Starfinder universe and system. What better way to learn than by participating!

4] Myself?
I have been a gamer since forever. My first introduction to gaming was via the old D&D basic box. Yes, I'm unfortunately that old. Since then, my experience in gaming has stretched may settings, genres and systems. Memorable game systems I have spent a fair amount of time gaming include AD&D (stopped about 3.5); FASA Star Trek, GDW Twilight 2000; GDW Traveller 2300AD; Cyberpunk; Shadowrun; The original Deadlands; the first edition of 7th Sea and Pendragon.

My hobbies? As if gaming was not enough, I enjoy reading, dabble in cooking. Currently I'm dabbling with sous vide and adapting the cooking technique to traditional Asian recipes, which tend to be time consuming. About to give home coffee roasting a go :)

Movies, books.

Currently I am trying to involve my kids in gaming, beginning with board games :)

Too many distractions, too little time in a day.

Oh, and did I mention my wife suspects I have a form of focused ADHD? :)

5] Posting frequency.
In my day job, I pretty much have a computer right next to me 90% of the time. At home, while doing paperwork, again I have access to a computer. So, checking posts is not an issue. posting responses, generally will depend on the size of the posts. In the past, I have managed at least a couple, often more posts a day. (in the past, two was considered a slow day)

6] I am submitting as a solo entrant

7] I have no problems having another player bot my character to keep the game momentum flowing. Nothing more irritating than a game slamming to a halt awaiting somebody to post. It is only polite to enable the story to flow on. Just as I would assume that etiquette dictates that whomever bots the character try to stay within the character's basic 'character'

8] No problems keeping the GM and group updated as to my timetable. My staff keep me under control with regards to timetable and trips anyway. So, as they kindly 'remind' me as to where I need to be, I will update the group as to my availability or lack there of over a period of time.

About the only downtime currently in the near future is a week off at the end of July when I am away at a conference. And even then, the biggest down time will be flights.

One slight issue may be time zone though. I am an Australian, so may find my hours the flip side of most of the gamers on here. However on saying that the only time I dont check the net is when I sleep. so that should not be that much of an issue.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

Always been interested in the setting, just not the war game. I'd be interested in something

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

I'd love to join if here are still openings. I have yet to come up with a character. Just browsing through the forums when I came across this.

Quick application
1] Name: Sam or -lupus- as per the avatar

2] Have taken part in various PBP games before, just not Pathfinder. (Previously took part in a WoD and Heavy Gear games). I am new to organised play though

3] Why this game? I am trying to return to a Pathfinder/DnD rule set. My face to face group is very anti DnD/Pathfinder, claiming it does not promote role playing, but rather roll playing. My counter is the group tends to fall back to old habits when using a d20 system. Almost got kicked out of the group.....so seeking a fix elsewhere :) I am looking for a game which is friendly to new players (original d20 gamer, but from a long long time ago )

4] Character: to be decided. I tend to play or used to play rangers but wouldn't mind looking through the rule set to look at the new Pathfinder classes. What has drawn me back to d20 is the rich world that Paizo has created in Golarion and I would like to examine it more. Even look at it through the eyes of a new character rather than fall back to old habits

5] Posting rate: I tend to work near a computer most of the time, even weekends, so posting rate is usually not an issue. Definitely at least two posts a day, probably more if my character is engaged in a scene.

6] posting solo

7] no problems someone taking over a character to keep things rolling, so long as it fits what my character has been doing. best way to keep the game momentum building

8] timetable: do a lot of computer work, so generally trips away are not an issue as I usually have access to a computer. I do promise to keep the DM up to date with my poorer access times though. Possibly the biggest issue is that I am an Australian, so hours may be skewed from US players. But that should be about it.

Hope this does not rule me out of applying with a character concept later :)

Potentially interested in a Vampire PBP if there are still openings. What is left? :)

I'd skip APs entirely and make the show a series of PFS scenarios. That way they could showcase Golarion.

I actually think this is a great idea. While D&D or Pathfinder is a game we all know and play, making a movie about the game is just plain stupid. Whatever movie is made will not be about gamers playing a game, but the world and characters that populate it.

Making a show about PFS is a great idea. Give the Pathfinder name relevance within the storyline itself, and ties into the game line. And I would love a show which showcases a wide range of tales set throughout Golarion rather than one location.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh, that's just cruel. Ramp up my anticipation and make me wait weeks for book 2.

I think a cool hook for a character who's unsure of why they're in Roslar's Coffer would be for them to be a courier delivering a package with an unassuming shard inside to someone in the town. Maybe Lady Grive, or someone else. The viability of this idea might hinge on book 2, however.
