"Heya, Chrisss... mmmm"

I don't use the 'xdx items' parts. I don't think it's necessary and as a GM it means I have to do bookkeeping on what is a very miniscule part of the game.

I use a standard 75% availability of any item up to the Base Value in most cities, and modify that off the top of my head depending on the size of the community and the current socio-economic factors of the region/time-of-year.

Maybe some exciting Tiefling variant could actually have a functioning hand inside their stomach. Maybe the Qlippothspawn.

I'm not sure whether I'm being serious and neither should you be.

OK, well Nyarlathotep's 'dark pharoah' aspect could be easily replaced with Nethys who was originally Osirian.

Umm...

I'm not quite understanding your question. Do you mean that you want Golarion-specific neutral and good deities who have similar portfolios to the Lovecraftian 'pantheon'? For what purpose?

Most of that pantheon exists in the Golarionverse, and some of them (and the associated ones new to Golarion) are neutral - Azathoth, Bokrug, Mhar, Yog-Sothoth.

I seem to recall that House Lebeda is quite Rostlandic, whereas the others are all predominantly Issian.

I don't see why changing your family name to 'Aldori' should mean you lose any inheritance you may be entitled to. Particularly in a region like Brevoy where the Aldori are so ingrained in society. I doubt there would be any legal issue around marriage or inheritance.

When I ran Kingmaker, I had my players visit Mivon, so I needed to come up with some background and cultural stuff around the ex-pat Swordlords. I simply had them revert to their old family names when they fled Rostland, since they didn't maintain Aldori ideals. That also goes some way to explain why the Mivoni and Aldori are so antagonistic to each other. The Aldori see the Mivoni as weak, cowardly, and betrayers of the Swordpact, while the Mivoni see the Aldori as arrogant and have to make up for the way they have historically been portrayed. Their history also explains why they produce so many warriors and mercenaries now. The Mivoni are overcompensating for their past and their reputation.

I'm really glad that the Hellknight Signifer is there. It's been a dream of mine to make a heavily armored arcane caster since the early days of 3.5.

Who were the angel of the Arvensoar? and does it play a roll in the the Shattered star ap??

So far, beyond what we've said in "Magnimar: City of Monuments," we haven't said much about the angel of the Arvensoar. At this point, this element of Magnimar isn't scheduled to have a role at all in Shattered Star, but that COULD change in part six.

Maybe a little sumthin' sumthin' in the Continuing the Campaign article..?

How about silent until they're hurt and then screaming their horrid faces off?

And the Silent Hill soundtracks (primarily the first one) are really atmospheric. Too much actual music and melody crept into the later soundtracks. It's one of my go-to soundtracks for creepy stuff.

I enjoy them, but I've never actively continued a Pathfinder campaign beyond book 6. Having said that, I did place some foreshadowing in the Kingmaker campaign I ran based on stuff from the 'Continuing the Campaign' article, and described those foreshadowed events coming to fruition in the 'epilogue' section of the campaign.

By book 6, I've usually had enough of a particular campaign and there are so many other shiny options to force my players to endure by the time we've finished a whole AP.

My AP ADHD is too strong to really make use of them, I fear. But I do like them. Really I do!

Well, I LOVE IT! Although, it does sound quasi-sexual...

Keep suggesting it? I think once is enough. The genius of it is obvious to all.

I'd rather keep plugging my other one: The Accursed Crusade.

The Fiendish Planet Gash Purge

The Accursed Crusade

It's the same in Magnimar, City of Monuments so I think it's a safe bet :p

Probably not in this adventure path.

Thank goodness! That means I can flex my NPC-making muscles! Huzzah!

Mandali is still around. He doesn't have an official role to play in Shattered Star, though.

As for why Sheila looks like a sorcerer...

Awesome. Thanks, JJ.

I LOVE that Sheila doesn't look like a Fighter/Monk. I think it adds layers of personality to her that wouldn't have been there if she did look just like her class(es).

What happened to Mandali? Did Sheila bring him with her to Magnimar?

If someone (JJ?) can assure me that he doesn't show up (in one way or another) in future chapters, I'm going to have him be the bodyguard/manservant/butler at Heidmarch Manor. Who wouldn't want that?!

Also, this is most certainly not the first occurrence of this phenomenon. Any time an unaltered monster from one of Paizo's bestiaries is used in an AP volume or module they use the shortened stat block with book/page reference. As DM mentioned, it is done this way so that they can fit more actual adventure content into the books rather than reprinting information that they already offer for free (as well as in commonly owned books). Seeing that you are a charter subscriber, I find it curious that this is the first time you've noticed this.

This.

I've been running games since Kingmaker and that AP certainly required the GM to reference the Bestiary for monster stats.

Yeah, the third chapter of the Shattered Star AP, The Asylum Stone will be set in Kaer Maga.

You should check out Lost Cities of Golarion and Lost Kingdoms. Both feature a lot of information about specific regions of the Worldwound.

You could go Blood of Beasts, and include:

1. Catfolk
2. Ratfolk
3. Tengu

(with Grippli, Kitsune, Nagaji, Strix, and Vanara as alternate choices, or grist for supplementary material).

I like the 'Blood of Beasts' angle but you'd need a different title. 'Beasts' would be a little insulting to the noble creatures contained within (and the ratfolk).

Lost Kingdoms calls it the Abendego Gulf.

I GM a group that tries to play every Sunday for about 5 hours.

Most campaigns have lasted around 2 years, and we've never quit one or had to stop before the end. However, each session of our current Jade Regent campaign seems to make a TPK more and more likely.

A more serious suggestion would be saying that, taking the AP as it is, an all-Goblin party is impossible. Nobody of the four NPCs would agree to that, given their background. Nobody in Minkai would take them seriously or want them as rulers.

If the OP wants to do that, he has to rewrite the whole campaign, NPCs, plot, everything.

Or just handwave it and have fun, maybe?

Rasputin is simply the real Earth pseudonym for Baba Yaga's servant Koschei the Deathless!

Yes! I love Koschei the Deathless. Even if he's not Rasputin, he needs to be in this AP :p

And what is the size of the "sizable portion of sales" that an author can earn?

One of my players uses an app called 'Character Folio' I think...

The Blood of the Night Player's Companion is on its way if you can wait until October...

You could check out the 'power levels' section on page 253 of the Inner Sea World Guide, for official (rough) guidelines on this sort of thing.

But, here's the gist:

The vast majority of people are "standard" (levels 1-5)
A significant number of a nation's movers and shakers should be "exceptional" (levels 6-10)
Each nation should have only a handful of "powerful" characters (levels 11-15)
"Legendary" characters of 16th level or higher should be exceptionally rare and should only appear as part of a specific campaign.

EVERYONE loves handouts.

ZOMG! How soon?!
Assuming timely turnaround on art, this should be available in August!

That should be acceptable :p

We're due to start The Hungry Storm this weekend, and we don't move very quickly. I think my players would like to do more at the top of the world when they get there. Of course, I could come up with any number of reasons why they can't and railroad them off into the snows, but I'd like to have something on hand for when they do get there.

YAY! Can't wait.

Really? Why? If you don't like it, don't use it. I have dozens of AP books that I will never get to GM, but keep up my subscription because the APs are so nice and the supporting articles so great.

I can understand that the sci-fantasy stuff isn't to everyone's taste, but I don't understand why it would make you feel so strongly about the whole AP line - unless you mean you'd only cancel the subscription for that AP.

Plus, I think you can rule out them retconning it now ;-)

The FR grey box had a starting adventure with drow and awkward traps that was so lethal for novices that it nearly killed my gaming group after two sessions. Plus a bizzare Elminster interlude that only the GM understood.

I remember that! There were two adventures - Halls of the Beast Tamers and something else about caverns under a school of wizardry in Myth Drannor. I loved the doe-eyed ignorance with which I led unsuspecting players into those unexpectedly deadly encounters. Those were the days.

*wistful sigh*

Hnefatafl is played in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. That's kind of chess-y.

I want to go to there.

*sniff* I have never had a TPK.

There's a TPK out there somewhere with your name on it.

You'll find TPK when you're not looking for it.

There are plenty more TPKs in the sea.

One day your TPK will come.

etc.

TPK last session.

Well, TPK for the players who turned up. The other two PCs are safely back at the caravan with Sandru and Koya.

The (now-dead) others went into Ravenscraeg to look for Ameiko, Suishen, etc. and found their way into Wodes' tower. They were quite depleted from the encounters up to that point, so when they had to deal with the bloodfeather raven, 3 summoned air elementals, and a raven swarm immediately after the three tengu ninja, they started dropping like flies. They did have some of the worst luck on their rolls though. Most of them could barely have hit the side of a barn that day.

Result: Three player deaths, and one NPC who accompanied them (R.I.P. Shalelu).

In about twenty-plus years (off and on) of DMing, that's the first TPK I've ever inflicted. YAY! Achievement Unlocked!

The other PCs back at the caravan don't know anything has happened, but I'm waiting to see what the replacement PCs are going to be before I work out how to introduce them into the story and mount a (too late) rescue mission.

In my experience of DMing a 6-player group for the last few years, they don't all turn up at once. It's usual for me to have a 3 or 4 player group at any one time. If they did all turn up at once I'd probably have to adjust the encounters, but it works out satisfyingly since I can usually run an AP as written with the ones who do turn up.

I'm playing the whole world, since I'm the GM ;-)

But our PCs include:

Aasimar bard
Half-orc fighter
Human sorceress
Kitsune bard/fighter
Aasimar rogue

There's also a gnome summoner who hasn't played in forever but we're letting him hang around the caravan in case he ever turns up again.

The lack of a healbot hasn't really proved much of an issue so far between the use of wands and Koya, but they're only on book 2 and just entering Ravenscraeg. I think they'll find things a bit tougher from here on in... muahahaha.

Sorry, but in my case I buy the AP's for their content. I simply have a different mindset here. I'd hate to have to work up all that extra content by myself and discard all the good stuff from the third and fourth module.
Just because I don't use it right away doesn't mean it gets discarded. At the very least, I'll have to transfer major plot scenes and adapt them to fit the current scenario. Anything else I like will probably get worked into future adventures down the line.

This. Exactly this. If I don't use a part of an AP or miss out an encounter I can slot it into future campaigns when I need some filler or a side quest or something.

As a GM, a lot of my enjoyment comes from linking plotlines together and finding encounters that fit the storyline or area the PCs are in and using them in an evocative way to introduce or elaborate upon the culture or history of the region.

My only current living character is a gnome summoner called Odillinar.
