Illithids the original Underdark denizens, were heavily Cthulhu inspired. And the idea of the Underdark also seems inspired by Yoth. So, the Underdark was very Mythos inspired from the onset. Having the primary antagonists be Serpentfolk makes a lot of sense since they are also Mythos based. In this retcon they DON'T seem Yuan-Ti inspired so much as Serpentfolk Cthulhu Mythos inspired (which heavily predates Yuan-Ti), especially from the work "The Curse of Yig" and "The Mark of Yig" (the latter work moved his domain to Yoth).

This is honestly the worst of both worlds - removing Drow and leaving nothing or nonsensical oops all snake people in their place. Cavern elves aren't even close to a substitute especially if they're going to be heroes of the darklands. I'm sure I'll get over it but I don't think I could be more disappointed than this. If you want it to be Outer Gods or Old Ones/Lovecrast stuff , I reckon James was thinking about Yig when he decided on making the Serpentfolk as the primary under dark antagonists. He’s a full on Lovecraft super fan. So there, wish granted.

Thanks for the suggestions! I play 7 games/campaigns of Pathfinder 2E a week for the last 3 years. (I know! I’m a crazy person!) Some set early from 4707-4709. Some of them from 4719 AR-4721 AR with overlap of players. All of them in the same continuity. So it does matter immediately.

I am currently running a group through the APS in order and as we finish up Runelords, do you have any suggestion as to handle Second Darkness? Should I do something with “chaos elves?” That aren’t an ancestry but more like a group of elves being mind controlled by Rovagug? I want to fit the new canon of no Drow, but still run this AP.

I just saw this. This is really cool. Glad you liked the subsystem.
My friends and I are about to finish Age of Ashes, and we are discussing going back and playing some 1E adventures to learn more about the meta-narrative of Golarion. At the top of the list was the Runelords Trilogy, but at the Erik Mona Q&A he mentioned something interesting that I didn't know. Crown of the Kobold King ties into the Tar-Baphon meta-narrative. This made me realize that important things even happen outside of the main AP line. In your opinion, what are the most important meta-narratives of 1E and which APs and adventures tie into them? (ie. If you want to understand New Thassilon play all of these, if you want to understand the Whispering Tyrant play all of these, etc. etc.)
I sent an email on April 5th about this and I haven't seen a response. The original order numbers for my PaizoCon 2020 ticket was 10782622 and 12929103. I believe that was 3 total tickets between the two orders? Can you confirm that I have tickets to the 2022 physical event? I already took the days off work to go to the event.
In Age of Ashes, Jonivar states the Anima Invocation requires the souls of willing participants and that's why the ritual won't work. Theoretically, what would happen if, instead of convincing Mengkare to not to the ritual, the population was informed of the true nature of the ritual and convinced to become willing? (With the unwilling expelled/spared.) The population seems quite culty, and if you look at real world examples of isolated communities like Jim Jones...large populations can become convinced...

Thanks! And thanks for the clarification about Quests.
Hi, I backed and redeemed my codes for the latest Starfinder Humble Bundle. The codes all worked for the digital tiers, but the physical code never took me to the link to pay for shipping. Nor, do I see it in my sidecart. It appears to just be "redeemed" at this point without the physical products ever being entered.
Hi. I have been a super-subscriber since August 2019. I should be getting all the Pathfinder/Starfinder Society Scenarios for free. For the most part I do, but I seem to be missing the following items: https://paizo.com/products/btq022bt?Pathfinder-Society-Quest-5-The-Dragon-W ho-Stole-Evoking-Day
Also, can you please process order 15429988 and send the items in my sidecart immediately?
If Lisa Stevens said, "James, you got two years to wrap up all Golarion products. We got enough. We're doing a new campaign setting after." What hanging threads or plot points would you want to close out? What would be the final Golarion products you'd want to see? Would you ever reveal some of the biggest mysteries, like Aroden's death?

Have you read Designers & Dragons (especially the Paizo history section)? If so, how accurate would you say it is? I find that era, right after the Dragon, Dungeon, and Star Wars magazine partnership ended fascinating, and the replanning for company direction had to take place. Do you have any stories from that period before Jason pitched Pathfinder? Or any other directions that were pitched before landing on Paizo's current direction? What was the mood like? Eg. Was there ever any discussion of doing a 4E OGL supplemental magazine? What was the mood like, excited or apprehensive?
Because this has happened a second time now, please check my account to see if something happened on the backend. I have a feeling this issue is going to continue if some sort of subscription setting isn't checked. I am subbed to the following: Pathfinder Adventure Card Game

Hi. I sub to all Pathfinder subscriptions. I was never sent the following items. I sent an email about it Feb. 21st and never received a response. Pathfinder Adventure Path #163: Ruins of Gauntlight
Today I saw I never received this item, so I sent another email. Hopefully either that email or this thread gets a response.
Also, because I needed access to Pathfinder Adventure Path #163: Ruins of Gauntlight I just bought the PDF (that should be included with my Pathfinder subscription with the physical product). Once, you rectify the situation with the missing physical products, can you please refund me for that order? Regards
Thanks! All of that makes sense. In all honesty, I already buy more Pathfinder/Golarion products than I'll ever be able to read in my lifetime anyway. I own nearly every AP/campaign Setting/Player Companion since the beginning. But it's there for when I need it (never know which direction players will run)... Good stuff.
Is there a reason print on demand hasn't been utilized for the orphaned novels? POD companies like Lulu do not take copyright ownership, and your products can be repealed from them at any time. From what I understand those novels are completed, so posting them on a POD site would take zero capital. If self-publishing later becomes more profitable, Paizo could just pull it from Lulu. POD is less profitable, but is more profitable than the zero dollars those books make currently.

I was not happy with the Citadel Altaerein upgrade subsystem. It was tedious, and the rooms were not exciting. Here is an alternative system that greatly simplifies building rooms, and includes 16 more upgrades. Citadel Altaerein Upgrades

I want to have an army of Cinderclaw charau-ka cultists attack Akrivel, prior to the PCs leaving, to add more urgency to hunting down and destroying the cult, but information on the city is sparse. What is the population of Akrivel? Is there more information on the city that had to be cut for space?
As probably the voluminous RPG company, how extensively are APs and modules play tested prior to publication? Does Paizo have external players with non-disclosure agreements? Is there a team that does this in house? I like to imagine a room full of dozens of Oompa-Loompas employed by Paizo, joyfully playing through all the content filling out play test questionnaires.

Getting published by Paizo is a dream of mine, because I absolutely love Golarion. Do you have any advice for how to get noticed? Self-publish? Pitch to smaller companies that accept unsolicited submissions? Kickstart projects? For someone starting at the bottom and wanting to work their way up, where does Paizo generally look for new talent? What type of projects are they most likely to notice as a writer? Bestiaries, adventures, sub-system projects (like expanded downtime rules)? Would trying to build a name for yourself by publishing for other systems with more lax third-party publishing rules work (ie. DMsguild, Foundry), or does Paizo only look at people with published Pathfinder work?
I really like the aesthetic re-design of classic monsters in 2E (such as hobgoblins and kobolds). It makes Golarion instantly unique and distinctive from other products. Was this pitched by the writing team to the artists, or from the artists to the writing team? Will we see this trend continue in future Bestiaries?

Classy response. I respect that this is more important than my curiosity. Was there any internal conflicted discussion on whether having an AP go to Earth was a good idea, or was everyone equally excited and on board with this idea when it was first pitched?
If Paizo Earth is on the same material plane as Golarion, do Earthlings go to the River of Souls and get judged by Pharasma? If the Old Kingdom of Kemet (Egypt) shares the same pantheon as Osirion, what does that mean for other Earth religions? Does Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, etc. exist on this version of Earth?

What were some of the campaign setting design goals with the release of 2E? (For example, "Reinforce the idea Absalom was the center of the Inner Sea.") Also, is it okay for me to ask these sorts of questions, or are they classified? I've been reading Designers and Dragons, and the sections about Paizo strategy and manager meetings are fascinating.

I look forward to learning more. I do like your team's decisions regarding the revolt. Having the revolution occur in an adventure (depending on player character concepts) could potentially be...Dances of Wolvesy...It's good that the Mwangi themselves were the ones who overthrew the colony, so they aren't passive in their own history.
