Pathfinder is a role-playing game. Even disregarding that the default assumption is that all characters are (at least potentially) bisexual, telling people you HAVE to play this particular iconic character as gay, trans, bi, or whatever is every bit as problematic as telling them they have to play them as straight.
Is MY Quinn less valid than yours because I seduce the barmaid instead of the barman? This is why the iconics are poor choices for representation, they are EVERYONE'S characters

I have messaged Customer Service regarding this issue, with no help, as should be expected now, but while I was charged, I never received my order of the physical copy, and the tracking number provided no information. I am currently without my money and without the product I ordered, so i would appreciate you handling this in a timely manner.
This is being posted to the forums in the hopes of raising awareness that customer support is failing at its job.

Hmm. Imperial Guard player perhaps? There is a guy at my FLGS who carried a fanny pack of dice, and removed them as his guardsman were killed. Nobody ever wanted to call him on exactly how many dice were in that bag.
On Topic: I think 6-8 of pretty much any die size is about the most I will roll physically. Though all of my gaming for the last... forever... has been via Foundry, so no physical rolling anyway. If you don't want to roll fistfuls of dice, spellcasters may not be for you... Actually, at high level, martials also roll tons of dice.
If you combine:
- d20 to hit
- 4 dice of weapon
- up to 3 dice of elemental runes
- 0-4 additional dice (it's possible to go over that but for non repeatable attacks only).
That's 8-12 dice per attacks.
Spellcasters roll more dice at once, but not in total. And factoring in doubling that number for crits, yeah, I see your point. I'm still stuck in a 1st edition mindset that higher level warriors get more static boni instead.

You can expect some small adjustments with 2 HD PF1 races (as we've already witnessed with Lizardfolk), but a CR 4 creature with level 2 SLAs, SR and poison? Not gonna happen. For anyone who remembers 3rd edition D&D, they had a book, Savage Species, that made monsters playable by having monster classes, such as a 15 level class to grow in power as a Mind Flayer. Seems to me that the multiclassing archetypes for PF2e would work for that, make a base race and gain abilities as they gain levels in their primary class

graystone wrote: Claxon wrote: graystone wrote: Claxon wrote: The process of becoming a lich turns you evil. Only for monster/NPC ones: the archetypes doesn't do that. You can make it that way in your game if you want though. From what I can find it's true the lich archetype doesn't explicitly say you're evil, but it mentions needing to complete the ritual to become a lich which I can't find detailed.
Even in PF1, it was the process (the ritual) of becoming a lich that made you evil.
Even if not made explicit I would expect it to be the same.
I would actually consider this a huge miss in lore and the rules if Paizo let it stand that liches could transform without becoming evil in the process. As I noted, only the bestiary forces an alignment change and there aren't rules for how many [or severity of] evil things you do to alter your alignment. As such, the ritual being evil [or even really, really evil], isn't an automatic shift. The alignment rules in fact are written from the perspective of the character deciding if their alignment changes, not the DM forcing a change.
Now could a DM enforce a change? Sure thing, but that'd be a house-rule. As to "a huge miss in lore", it ONLY works for PC liches and how many of those are there? IMO, I don't think that they impact the overall lore in the least. IMO, it's no more a lore miss than a demon/devil that's not evil and those are in the lore. I don't think you understand just how evil the ritual of lichdom is. The mundane, easy version requires a minimum of 2 murders, maybe three, just for the pursuit of power. You have to kill a pegasus foal, with wyvern venom. Rip the heart out of a humanoid you poisoned, and have a pint of vampire blood (good luck getting that willingly). The main point is that you are doing these evil actions solely to gain power, which is what damns the prospective lich

The thread's title is literally "Paizo buying Might and Magic(IP) or the reverse?" The reverse is Hasbro buying Paizo. And again, if Hasbro owns it, and Paizo wants to buy it to compete, why would Hasbro be interested in helping a competitor?
1 person marked this as a favorite.
|
No, you still aren't understanding: Paizo is Hasbro's biggest rival in TTRPG, why on Earth would the company that already produces an RPG sell the rights to ANOTHER company, especially given how free Wizards is with producing, essentially, one-off setting books. If they wanted a Might and Magic game, they would produce it themselves. As to your proposal of Hasbro buying Paizo, they would just kill off Pathfinder. TSR learned about competing in-house brands back in the 90s, Hasbro isn't going to need a repeat of that lesson

My apologies, didn't realize this was going to be a place for singing Paizo's praises when they haven't delivered the product, where any voicing of annoyance was going to be met with personal attacks.
I am sorry that the fact that I, and others, are growing tired waiting for a project that we funded to finally be released, and are annoyed at being treated like we are out of line for pointing out that we should be given what we paid for, regardless of how things go with brick and mortar stores. You may have not noticed this, but most books they release aren't down as Kickstarters, so no, expecting me to wait until it's released in stores is not something I find acceptable, because this is not a preorder. If it was to be treated exactly the same, why would I bother supporting the Kickstarter when I can get the exact same thing by waiting?

I paid them $230 for it three years ago, yes, I am ready to see exactly what I paid for. I have had bad experiences with buying a product from Paizo, back when they sold PDFs of AD&D books, only to come back a month or so later and Wizards of the Coast had had Paizo take them down. Didn't get a refund or anything, just a couple weeks access. Since then I have enjoyed Pathfinder, but my trust in Paizo as a company has been a little shaky.
While I can partly say that I want the Kingmaker adventure path, mostly I want to see that my money hasn't been thrown away. I want the product I have paid for, long ago.

I'm happy to wait, for it's only late until it's shipped, but if it's bad it is likely bad forever.
Might want to check things before posting, I put in my payment for this thing May 19th of 2019, which makes this just 2 months shy of 3 years since the shipping price was calculated. Ample time for prices to be increased.
And it's good that you're so devoted that you are willing to give them your money for no product, but I put in for a specific purpose, and I think that having achieved over a thousand percent of their goal, they are obligated to provide. They will, but that wasn't the point of my post.

Weredinosaurs can exist, but the biggest issue is that most of their victims are gonna be bigger than humans. Most carnivorous dinosaurs, in Pathfinder, are Huge or larger, and the afflicted creature has to be within one size of the base creature. Large-sized humanoids are often Giants, which are already of a high CR. Slap the lycanthrope template with a dinosaur and it can skyrocket.
Yeah, that sounds like a fun boss fight. "Okay, you are in battle with a fire giant, who goes into a blood rage, and then becomes a T-Rex". "you hate us, don't you?"

How is Paizo responsible for this ?
Because I have already paid them for the book, and they have not provided said book. I fulfilled my end of the contract, they have yet to do so. They have, as others and myself have pointed out, released numerous books in the main line, in side lines, in the adventure paths, and even in society adventures, but they have not produced the one book (or set) that has already been paid for.

Cori Marie wrote: So if your gaming group had waited to dissolve until after you had the product it wouldn't have been a waste of money? It would have been just another one of those things. Paizo ran a Kickstarter, making promises as to providing books. Twenty-six months later, we haven't gotten the PDFs, much less the physical books that were promised. Paizo dropped the ball. That cannot be argued. We can argue about how "justified" it was, but the fact is, they received money, we have received nothing but glimpses at the product we've already paid for.

Totally Not Gorbacz wrote: How's Paizo responsible for you not talking to your gaming group? I never claimed they were. I never claimed they were responsible, but that doesn't change the fact that, during the delays, the reason I purchased the product ceased to be a factor.

Here's the thing, though, especially for those saying "you didn't pay for a book". Yes, I did. Part of the pledge says "pay this much, and receive these items". I paid that much, as yet I have nothing, including the PDFs that were supposed to be part of it. They have taken 26 months so far. As others have said, they made their pledges for specific purposes, which the delay made untenable. If it's not released in a timely manner to work with the purposes it was ordered for, those books become just so much junk cluttering up a bookshelf. I ordered it because my gaming group would have enjoyed it. Been 2 years since we spoke, so my primary reason for ordering this has gone.

Love that my comment was deleted when I responded to someone bringing Covid into the discussion, because it was "beyond the scope of the discussion". I paid for a product, Paizo has failed to deliver so far, and I have no recourse for if they decide they just don't feel like doing this anymore, and when I voice my displeasure as to this, I am shamed for daring to expect to get something for my money.

Problem is we sent them half a million dollars for product, and they haven't delivered. James Jacobs has said it was a bigger project than he anticipated, but he's not exactly a newbie to all this. He knows how this goes. Okay, I was hasty in saying they haven't been delivering updates, first time I used Kickstarter, and just noticed the updates tab, I've mostly been looking for updates on the paizo website. Global pandemic, as I mentioned, isn't really an excuse considering how most of this stuff can be done work-from-home, and the pandemic hasn't stopped Paizo from releasing either two or three adventure paths, 2 sourcebooks, and either one or two campaign setting books over the course of the same pandemic.
I'm just a little wary of things like this after I got screwed over before by Paizo and Wizards of the Coast back just before 4th edition got released, when I had purchased about a dozen pdfs of AD&D books from Paizo, only for Wizards to have them taken down shortly thereafter, leaving me having paid for material I could no longer access

Unfortunately not Australian, so probably not. My frustration is that, after trying to raise $50,000 for the project they managed to get over $500,000, and all we have to show for that is 4 pictures, and the longer this drags out, the more likely they are to throw up their hands and say "oh well, we tried", and leave us with nothing to show for it.

And since the global pandemic they have released two full sized books in the primary Paizo line, Secrets of Magic and Guns and Gears, which people hadn't paid for in advance. Plus continuing other adventure paths. I understand a delay, but 2 years, and looking at at least a half a year longer, is a bit of a stretch when, as I said, they already have the money for it.

Have to say, right now, I am very disappointed. It's been over 2 years since we backed this project, and Paizo has been rather tight with any meaningful updates. Best we've gotten is a couple of pictures that aren't worth the over $200 I put towards this. And, for some reason, I'm fairly certain that when April gets here, it'll "just be another few months". I'm disturbed that Paizo is willing to spit on the customers like this. I understand that delays happen, but that's not really a good excuse once they've already taken our money for this project.

Love the fact that they won't let us cancel our pledge, when they've decided to cancel their intention to get this done in a timely manner. It's been 2 years, 2 months, since the kickstarter ended, and all they've shown off is some art. They really let us down on this.

Zapp wrote: dmerceless wrote: What I'm going to talk about here is something my players and I have been having issues with for the little over a year we've been playing 2e Quote: The main issue boils down to Dexterity-based martial characters having a lot of issues with build paths and early game damage. I don't really have any words of comfort.
Pathfinder 2 just isn't interested in the 5th Edition concept of warriors without physical strength.
You need Strength to do physical damage.
Yes, this kind of nullifies the idea of finesse fighters, since if you need Strength anyway, why not go Strength instead of Dexterity and rely on armor to protect you?
And the answer is "that's exactly how warriors act in both real-life and games like AD&D".
The real reason behind "finesse fighters" is that some humans weren't strong enough to become a warrior. These individuals had to rely on subterfuge to compensate for their short-comings in the physical strength compartment.
They became rogues. Or they turn to sorcery. Or they choose peace, and become healers.
tl;dr: nothing (except game build theory) says Dex must be equal to Str. That's mostly something 5th Edition tells the kids today (and turns Dex into a super-stat in the process).
If you want to be a warrior Strength is not optional. Relying on real world physics for an argument is not exactly a good idea. Besides, there are quite a few martial arts that teach exactly the opposite of what you're suggesting. It's entirely possible to be a warrior without being pound-for-pound as strong.

CorvusMask wrote: How would ogres go into space anyway?
No seriously, would they have become space hillbillies, grown past the incest and malicious stupidity or have been uplifted? :D
Or been brought along by another being wanting to make use of their theoretically easy to control stupidity as dumb muscle, either directly as agents or as indirect hazards for anyone going against the person who brought them. I can see a LE group, before the disappearance of Golarion, importing ogres near a new colony and then negotiating a protection contract with the colony.
Alternatively, there is the ever-popular cloning story, someone cloned ogres from ancient genetic material, they overthrew their maker and overran the colony/world. A smarter than average ogre stopped the destruction from being complete, so that they could institute a breeding program to give them an underclass of half-ogres capable of piloting the remaining star ships, allowing the ogres to take to the stars as an ill-defined "nation" of pirates and raiders.

I'm going to withhold judgement until I actually get the book. Based on the 2nd set of inflation data, I was probably premature. Flavor has been pretty good, it's just been a sticking point for me that, at the same time a wizard can throw a fireball, a goblin can set themselves on fire and do a ranged fire punch. It's basically giving them Produce Flame, but they take damage for it. That as a general complaint on power disparity in feats, and the specifics that we should have had the monster building rules in the Bestiary.
Still, this could be interesting, looking forward to the settlement rules and relics, hopefully they will be better than Weapons of Legacy. I loved the flavor, but the mechanics just didn't work.

People seem to believe that I'm being unreasonably angry. I am glad to have the rules now, my main issue was before the preview was released, where I had to wait 6 months for rules on how to build an npc or monster.
I stand by my belief that not putting something as basic as npc creation in the core rulebook is bad game design, because it is something a GM needs if they are to write their own stories. It may not have been promised as such, but you can't really argue that they wanted to playtest the rules before putting them live when they clearly state they used the rules for making the bestiary.
Grognard, who do you expect would need NPC and monster creation rules, but not want the Bestiary?
Paizo had gotten away from its predecessor's assumption of 3 core rulebooks, I'm sorry to see them heading back in that direction.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies. I disagree with the view they should be in the GMG, from 3rd edition to Starfinder, they've always been in the bestiary, monster manual or alien archive, but that would have been a minor issue if they had released the GMG in a timely manner. It's bad game design to directly reference rules you won't be publishing for half a year.
I suppose I was thinking of baseline orc as just racial modifications, like how goblins have a race write-up in the Core Rulebook, and example monsters in the Bestiary. At any rate, it'll be fun to make some NPCs now.

#9 is horrible and nonsense. Who are you to force the way my character acts? Especially since I can, in this game, have a demon, a creature formed from the sins of a mortal, but I can't stop myself from attacking a lich?

I can understand the sentiment, and being unable to just accept "you can do it differently " as an answer, because everything Paizo puts out for the race in question, official art, face cards, miniatures, and pawns, all will look that one specific way. Yes, I can get a miniature and paint it any way I like, but I also like using the paizo miniatures because they are usually beautifully done.
The other reason is, as has been said, conformity of experience.
Besides, half the people on here are screaming dark is not evil, but I don't see them having a problem with how demons and drow have darkness as a spell like ability, amongst other evil races. Should we replace it with Daylight?
