Hi folks,

Long time no speak. We've just started Shards of Sin, and my players will be heading for the Crow's Nest next game. I'd REALLY need for someone to explain to me (or maybe draw me) the whole entrance area B1... More specifically, area B9, the Shaft Apex. It seems no matter how much I read this area, I just can't seem to wrap my head around it.

Entrances, windows, catwalks, secret doors, oh my...

Hi guys,

I'm running the module ENTOMBED WITH THE PHARAOHS and am thinking about running the other adventure that comme right after that, THE PACT STONE PYRAMID... But I think mt players will lack a level when finishing the first scenario. What 7th level side-quest could I have them do between the two modules?

Thanks for the input guys...

Ultradan

Hi guys,

Here's an easy one for ya... What's the CR encounter level if the PC fight with the entire five-man team of Julistar and his croonies (all CR6 NPCs).

Thanks!

Hello,

How do you keep your players interested in exploring hexes on the map once they've started building their own city... It's quite obvious that after the first book, the PCs will need to move fast to get either further south, or to the next maps and take care of what's happenning there. So why should they keep exploring hex by hex?

Has this problem ever come up with any other group?

Ultradan

Hi folks...

I understand that the PCs will eventually get horses to move around the maps faster, but are they supposed to explore a new hex on foot, or can they continue exploring on horseback and save a bundle of time?

Ultradan

Your group is exploring the great outdoors...

How far can they see? Or, what is visible to them from where they are?

Say you're on top of a lone mountain on a clear day... How many miles?

Or what if you're in a CHAIN of mountains...

In the middle of a grassy plain...

I understand that in a forest or jungle your line of sight (usually 60ft) would be the norm.

Are there rules that govern this? Like how many miles into the next HEX can you see from where you are?

Yeah, I made one little change to the big secret the PCs learn at the end of book 5...

That, in fact, it was THE ELVES using aboleth magic that caused the first earthfall all those years ago, trying to bring an end to the humans who were becomming way too powerful back then (Thassilon and their Runelords in particular).

THIS is the secret that the winter coucil wants to protect at all cost (along with the other reveal about the DROW origins, of course).

Now one of them has found the old recepee for disaster, and it's all going to happen again. And the elves are just planning to leave again and return in a few hundred years. No big deal.

Ahhhh... Those scheeming elves!

Golarion's lucky to have a few HEROES though!!

Holy backstab!!

Can a caster cast Feeblemind at an adversary who's on the other side of a Wall of Force?

I need some advice on how to proceed...

My group managed to knock out Tyrion in the last fight of the previous book and take him as a prisoner with them when they stepped through the portal.

How can everyone dismiss the drow when the group actually brought a live one with them?

Help! lol

Hi Paizo,

Effective immediately (before Iron Gods comes out), I'd like to cancell my subscription to the Adventure Paths...

I figure that with all the books I already have from you guys, I'll have enough adventures to last me to the year 2100. lol

I might pick up more adventure modules later on though. We'll see what's needed for our game in the future.

So this is by no means a malcontent with your product. It's just that I'm running out of storage room for all these books.

Thanks guys.

Hi folks, we're comming up on this most possibly in the next session (this weekend), and just wanted your input on how the fight went... And I'm trying to be vague on the details as not to ruin it for those who have not yet played through this and are reading the question.

But I am talking about the very last fight of the sixth book... :)

Was it complicated for you? (Lots of high level combattants with LOTS of special abilities each, looks like a handfull to me...)

Was there enough room to maneuver? (With all those participants in the fight, the fight area seems a little small to me...)

Any neat stuff that happened in your campaign?

Any tips? lol

Thanks!!

Hi guys,

I ordered a small pack of modules on November 8th, and the order is still "pending"... Is that normal? (I know it's a busy time for you guys, I'm just worried that there may be something wrong...)

Ultradan

Well, how does one pronouce Andachi?

AND-A-kee?

AND-AH-KEE?

AND-AH-TCHEE?

AND-AH-TCH-EYE?

Ultradan

Hello Paizo,

Just signaling that my last order (2705960) that has shipped on August 23rd has not arrived yet.

Ultradan

Hi folks, quick simple question for you guys...

Last game there was an argument about this and I was wondering what the experts on the Paizo boards thought about it:

Say you're a rogue with a cloak of displacement (and activate it during melee); Does this allow you to make sneak attacks on opponents?

Thanks

Ultradan

I've just responded to your E-Mail Paizo... You may proceed with my order 2647361.

Sorry about that!

Ultradan

The feeding grounds of the great Cindermaw...

Thousand-Bones says it's located at the northern most part of their lands, but on the map it is located at the south-western part of the badlands.

Where is it exactly? lol

Ultradan

Is there a module or a campaign setting book that describes the orc city of Urglin? A map maybe?

Ultradan

Hello Paizo,

Just to inform you that I have not yet recieved my orders from November... Order 2302440 and 2302441 (and 2353182, but that was shipped last Monday, so no biggy) have not arrived yet and I'm getting concerned.

Still, I'm aware that there may be a certain lateness due to the Holidays and such, so I'll wait a bit more. I'll keep you posted of anything I recieve.

This was just to inform you guys... Any other folks have problems getting their November stuff in Canada/Quebec?

Ultradan

Guess what I'm going to see on Thursday?

:D

Ultradan

I must be getting old (and forgetful, lol)...

About the combat maneuver TRIP: It says you can replace and attack (or all attacks, I imagine) with trips.

Say you decide to do so; If you had three attacks and instead decide to trip three times, does your CBM drop by 5 for every trip you attempt as would attacks (i.e.: CBM regular/-5/-10), would it be full CBM for all three trips.

Help an old man out, would ya... lol

Ultraconfused

The party has to pass there at some point, right?

Is there a map or a layout of the place? I understand that it's a city on the edge of a cliff, but how does one reach it from Varisia (the bottom of the cliff)? Is there a path that runs up the cliff? A magical elevator? Is it a run-down ruined city, or a city bussling with merchants and commerce? Are there guards? I'm having trouble imagining this place.

There doesn't seem to be anything specific anywhere.

Any input would be appreaciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm re-reading the last book of Curse of the Crimson Throne and came upon the boxed text on page 22 that somewhat describes the deeper levels of Castle Korvosa.

What I'd give to have a module that gives me the details that are just mentioned here... (sigh)

Hi folks,

Just wondering what kind (if any) of extra encounters have you inserted in Edge of Anarchy... Besides the ones already stated at the begining (The Otyugh, The angry mob, the encounter with Grau, etc...).

You have any idea for extra quick side-encounters I could just quickly pop in there in between the regular missions?

Ultradan

Where (in what book) can I find the stats for a Hellknight? I found myself in need of them in our last game and just couldn't find the pesky thing!

Ultradan

Here's a question from one of my players (an Oracle). Having no previous experience with this spell (first I hear of it, lol), I'm asking the community for some help on answering him...

"According to the spell elemental body, I need to know which aspects of a fire elemental I take, it'll be really important for me in a few levels;

I know I get all the physical aspects, like fire immunity, burn ability and size, but what about skills, feats, stats, base attack and saves?

Do I keep my own hit points?

Can I still cast spells?"

And that's pretty much it...

Thanks gang.

Ultradan

Hey gang,

I have a question for those familiar with the scenario...

I started my Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign yesterday, and something hit me mid-game... I was wondering when, exactly, does the Senechal of Castle Korvosa dissapear? When does he go missing, and when do the players know about this? Is there a specific place in the first or second books that reveal this at some point?

Thanks

Ultradan

Hey folks,

We're starting Curse of the Crimson Throne next month and the guys wanted to play a game of "something else" in the meantime, so I'm throwing them all in the meat grinder of Call of Cthulhu!

I've had all these books in my library and I've been sitting on them waiting for this day, lol. Of course, I chose to have them do one of the short scenarios since we're just gonna play one day of it. (I won't say which, because I know some of the players lurk around here sometimes, haha)...

In my prep for this game though, I found a real pleasure in researching old 1920s documents and photos on the net to use as hand outs and such... A real work of archeology (I actually felt like an investigator myself!). It's incredible what you can find on the web that you can use as game material... From actual dated maps, to restaurant menus, to pictures of places and things, all of which existed at that time and place where the scenario happens.

I've GOT to do these more often...

Hi guys,

Say an archer and a wizard are standing 60' away from each other at the start of the fight...

The initiative is rolled and the archer wins it.

He decides to ready an attack with his bow, as to fire at the wizard at the first sign of casting (presumably to distract the wizard and scuttle his spell).

The wizard casts a quickened fireball.

What happens first? The readied action, or the quickened spell? Is there a written rule about this?

I just want to get my things straight before this situation happens to me tomorrow during the game.

Thanks guys.

Ultradan

Am I getting this right?

Whail of the banshee: 10hp of damage per level (no cap?). So if a wizard, say a certain BBEG, who's CL22 casts this, he 's doing 220 hp of damage to each of the 22 people (1 person per level) it can affect?

That seems like a lot of carnage.

Sound wrong for some reason.

Wasn't there a movie made a few years ago in which they reversed the roles of white and black people in it... I think the story was about a white family living in a mostly black America, where the TV news folks were black, the rich celeberties were black, even the dolls and action figures in the stores were black. It was a complete role-reversal if you will... To show the rediculousness of it all.

I'm trying to find the title of the film but can't come up with anything on the net. (Did I imagine this film? lol)

I'm doing a research for work, on racisme and stereotypes.

Ultradan

Yeah, this is an easy question... (I'm have a mind blank right now, lol)

Say your PC wears a cloak that gives you +3 on all saves. Then puts on a ring that gives you +2 on all saves.

Do they stack? (giving you a +5 on all saves)

Or does just the highest one function? (Just giving you the +3 on all saves?

Hi Paizo,

Nothing unusual to report except for the great service that your staff provides us with! Seriously, all of you; Your hard work does not go unnoticed. I think I can speak for all of us by saying that we appreciate every effort you guys put in everything you do.

Hi folks,

I have a player in my game who has a character practically no monster of mine can hit. He's practically a walking tank. Mind you, we're approaching the end of an adventure path so the PCs are all like 16th-17th level, so it's quite normal for them to have strong characters.

I'm just looking for a way to make that PC a little more 'hittable' so I may rough him up a little in the final few battles. I know if I hit him with something like a SLOW spell, the wizard of the group will automatically dispell it on the next round... So how would you guys go about it, without making it look too much like you did it on purpose?

(I don't want to kill the guy, but having him practically walk through the final chapters of the Adventure Path unscathed would be quite an anti-climax...)

Thanks!

Ultradan

Well... Damage Reduction.

Say a creature has "DR10/Cold Iron - Good"...

and cast a Fireball spell at it. Do you reduce the Fireball's damage by 10? Or does the damage reduction only apply to weapons?

Ultradan

A quick question about wilderness travel and random encounters... My group is starting their expedition to the fabled city of Xin-Shalast in the last Rise of the Runelords campaign. I'm using the 'plateau' random encounter tables for the trip across the Storval Plateau and was wondering just how often do I roll for an encounter? For the Kodar region, there's an encounter table in the last book saying once per day and once per night, with a 15% chance in each, should I use this? Or is it more likely to encounter something in the Plateau than in the mountains?

Is there a standard roll for chance encounters in the wilderness, be it in the forests or hills, or mountains?

Hello Paizo,

Would it be possible to hold my next adventure path subscription orders of late july (i.e.: make sure not to charge me) before july 28th. I've had an unforseen incident (you know, when you own a house...) which has left my credit card in pretty bad shape. Everything will be back to normal after the 28th though.

Thanks!

Ahoy great minds of the messageboards...

I'm looking at the magic items section and the creation of these items and something isn't quite clear to me. I wonder y'all can help...

Say you want to create a +2 Belt of Giant Strength: You would first need the 'Craft Wondrous Item' feat that you can get at 3rd level. Then you would need the spell 'Bull's Strength' (that you can also get at 3rd level). Then spend 2000gp. Work for 2 days, then roll a spellcraft (DC8) and voilà!

My problem is this...

Now say you want to create a +6 Belt of Giant Stregth: Same Feat, same spell, but you pay 18000gp (you just happen apon a huge ruby on your first adventure), work 18 days then roll that same DC8 spellcraft...

Apart from the cost, shouldn't it be harder to create a +6 ability enhancing item than a +2 item?

Am I missing something here?

(If so point me to a page!! I'm going nuts here! lol)

Hey folks,

I'll admit it... I've NEVER bought anything from Amazon. In fact, the only place I ever bought something online is right here at Paizo. Given my lack of knowledge about online purchasing, I have a few questions about it, and I know all of you guys will surely clarify everything for me.

Say I want to buy a particular music CD. I check for it online at my local big chain music stores and find that it's NOWHERE to be found as it it a discontinued item. After more reasearch, if find that they have like eight copies for sale...

My question is... Where do these CDs come from if I purchase one? Is AMAZON a wearhouse/store with a zillions things in it? Is it safe to buy there?

Thanks folks.

Just for your info, Post Canada are talking of possibly going on strike on May 25 2011. If this happens, it could create a problem for you canadian clients (like me) who recieve your wonderful merchandise by mail.

We will all know for sure on May 22nd, where they will decide if they go through with it or not.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi gang,

I was wondering if there already existed a rule, a feat or a skill to "taunt" a foe...

Example: Say a fighter and a thief are in close combat with the capitain of the guard in an evil city; The fighter would use this skill/feat to coax the evil dude to use his attacks on him instead of the thief (who would have a much harder time dealing with the hits than the fighter), say 1-5 on d6 instead of a fifty-fifty chance to swing at either player characters.

Y'all get what I'm asking? lol

You know you're playing in a redneck game when...

... Your character's name is BUBBA.
... Your character's main weapon is a masterwork picthfork.
... Your character has a pig as a familiar.
... Your character's family tree looks like a horizontal stick.
... If you've ever been on a quest to save your sister from your father's barn.

I'm lost... lol... I don't usually do this; My players usually determine prices for crafting items).

I'm looking at the Scabbard of Keen Edges: CL 5th, PRICE 16000gp, COST 8000gp... Three times per day, it casts Keen Edge on a sword placed within it.

Now if I were to try and create a Scabbard of True Strike, with the same effects (three times per day, the scabbard would cast True Strike on a sword placed within it), how would I go about in calculating the price/cost of this item?

Is it at all possible? And if it is, what's the right way to do this?

I've tried and failed miserably (ending up with what I think are wrong answers).

Thanks guys!

Hey gang, just wanted to let out a sigh of discouragement...

I'm at work today, all dressed up as Darth Vader (since it's the last workday before Holloween). I've got the mask, the cape, the gloves, the glowing lightsaber, I'm all dressed in black, and I even got an electronic gizmo that produces Vader's notorious breathing sounds.

Nobody knew what I was dressed-up as. And one person asked me if I was Batman.

I hate the government.

lol

Hi gang,

I ran into something funny during my game today... One of my players was grappling an enemy and decided to choke him. We were on the fence about what rules to use. Either the suffocating rules, which state that a character can go like 1 or 2 rounds PER CONSTITUTION score (i.e.: Forever), or that one simply can't choke another by grappling and can just inflict damage with grapple checks until foe dies or falls unconcious.

Anyone have a ruling on this that makes some sort of sense? lol

Ultradan

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Hey folks,

I have a question about the intimidation (demoralize) check... In the book it states that you can use this skill to potentially 'shaken' your opponents for a few rounds.

Question 1) How long does using this skill in this fashion take? Or, if in combat, does just saying your using it means your using it?

Question 2) How many enemies does this include in one roll?

Question 3) What's to stop the players (or me, the DM) from starting EVERY battle with this tactic?

There doesn't seem to be a downside to using DEMORALIZE... Like if you miss your roll (say, by more than 5), can the enemies actually think your LESS of a threat and gain bonuses?

Thanks guys

Ultradan

Are there any spells (or items, or skills) that actually augment a caster's "Caster Levels" so it may become easier to affect targets with spells cast afterwards?
