Hi customer service monsters,

We were trying to change the payments for my ongoing subs over from one of my cards to one of my wife's, and we were able to enter and save the new card and billing info over, but when we try to assign payment to that card, we get kicked back to the main subs page. I guess it doesn't like the fact we are changing names associated with the account. Can you make the switch manually?

Thanks!

Hi,

As a result of some life restructuring we're doing, I sadly have to (temporarily, I hope) cut back on my subscriptions. Can I keep the Adventure Path and Planet Stories and suspend the rest?

If it makes anyone feel better, we actually cut the food budget before the Paizo budget.

:-)

Thanks!

Hi All,

I am going to be on vacation in Portland, Oregon next week. Can anyone offer any suggestions on decent gaming stores to visit?

Thanks!

Wizards has put up some information about the upcoming Against the Giants mini sets, and pictures of an Earth Titan and a dwarf with a... sword? Gee, not an axe?

Actually, the dwarf kind of looks like they grafted on an arm with a sword from a human figure. They must have decided to do a change-up at the last minute. ;)

With my 40th birthday just a few weeks off, I must be gearing up for my *official* midlife crisis. When Mr. Shiny mentioned vintage MTV in his Random Sh**e thread, I became obsessed with that weird, wondrous concoction from the days when I could only see it when I visited my Dad in the city on the weekends.

Not wanting to clutter up his sh**e thread with crap (they being totally different things), I thought I would create this bin to post those videos from yesteryear that my memories are dredging up.

But I would really love for this to be something other than Trey sitting in a corner booth and sniffling into a Bud longneck while listening to Bow Wow Wow (shudder). So it would be great if anyone wants to link to any music video they love from any period, to do so.

Because today, my friends, we can be the VeeJays.

Let's lift off, and though I know I should play the Buggles next, I just can't pass up on this, because there's no place to hang out our washing and I can't blame all on the sun, oh no!

Michael Sigler at Dragon Avenue has posted some design suggestions for the D&D site, aka Insider.

Michael Sigler wrote:
It’s not just about margins, gutters, grids and the like. Wizard’s web site should be about making a rich experience that showcases and harnesses the power of their content, entices visitors and is a joy to use and navigate.

I really like what he is suggesting, and hope that at some point Wizards can kick the site up to this level in terms of feel and readability. Anything I get out of the current site feels pretty hard-won.

I also think he did a good job carrying over the look of the design notes books and the minis boxes. Nice job overall, in my opinion.

Hi,

Can you cancel my preorder on the 4e book set and Keep on the Shadowfell?

Thanks!

I thought I saw a thread here indicating that there are some Planet Stories books that are better if you read earlier installments in the series first, but now I can't find it. Can anyone help? I started with the NW Smith collection, and want to make sure that I get my reading in order for anything after that.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm Trey, and I don't know much, but I do know stupid. I try my best to practice it throughout the day, both at work and at home, and, of course, here on the Paizo chat board. But I have to tell you, I'm starting to fear that my dreams of taking my stupid to the pro level are in danger.

Y'see, since I took up this perky little owl avatar to the left, archetypal associations have prompted some kindhearted folk to think I actually have some kind of idea of what I'm talking about. And that's a problem.

Being smart is hard work. Harder than I'm willing to work. So I'm hoping to reclaim the low esteem I feel I'm entitled to by coming up with some really incredibly bad ideas for the upcoming Pathfinder RPG. But I can't do it alone, and that's where the rest of you come in.

I know from reading the discussions on the alpha that you guys are smart. Really smart. But I also know that if they put in the wrong effort, reach down, and go for the bronze, even smart people can score some really dumb feats.

What do you say? No fair putting in ideas from people you don't agree with, like the sorcerers near the seashore. No, we are looking for truly spectacularly bad ideas, straight from your own heart of hearts.

For instance,

In PRPG, I want to see concept-powered magic, like the sin magic of the runelords, only instead of being powered by sin, I want it powered by puns, and the worse the pun, the stronger the magic. I want to see a castle that is protected not by a moat, but by a green lawn that is very difficult to breach because it is a magic sward. I want a lupine creature that is almost impossible to locate because it is a wherewolf. It can work for cursed items, as well. A Shakespearian-themed module could have a walking stick that at key moments, knocks its owner to the ground because it is a fall staff. And a well-informed adventurer could use Humor (Bad) to prepare for almost any BBEG by bringing along a simple cudgel, since the wurst monster in the dungeon is no more than truncheon meat.

I hope you will join me in this race to the bottom, but I hope that even if you don't, I have laid to rest the scurrilous rumors about my alleged wisdom, because they just aren't true.

All the wurst,
Trey

This is a Planet Stories post, but it is also a Paizo post. I am not trying to discount board posters whose feelings differ from mine with what I am about to say. I am just sharing my personal take.

Today I logged in to the Paizo board and while scanning what had recently been posted, I saw that, in service of the goal of making things as friendly as they can be, Gary had followed up on someone else's comment, to let them know that the poster had made some good points, but really hurt his case by tacking a gratuitous insult to another poster on the end. This is Gary, who works such long hours helping to keep our forums and orders going that he always seems to be at work, taking time to critique, in recognition of the fact that people were getting really upset over the issue of posts disappearing.

This, in addition to Paizo people from Lisa on down, taking time from their already busy schedule of production, and time from their planning on how to survive as a company through the tidal wave that is about to blast through, to explain how they would like the message boards they host run and why.

Nobody does this. Or maybe they do, but I have not seen it, and though I am fairly new here, I have canvassed the terrain of blogs and message boards heavily for many, many years, and have the low user IDs to show for it.

Again, not discounting anyone else's experiences or feelings, but I have been blown away. Even the Paizo staff members taking the most heat have been kid gloves compared to how moderation is usually implemented, and doing it while they are probably would rather be getting strategies together for when the shock waves from 4e blast through.

Sure, I have been on the fence for a Planet Stories subscription, and I will definitely be getting my money's worth, but I still don't have time to read them. I am buying today because I want Paizo to be here for a long, long time. Gary closed the deal, but everyone else gets credit for the assist. From where I stand, Paizo is a great company, and that extends to the people working for it.

I really hope everyone, posters and Paizo, can find common ground, because it's really all our loss if we don't. In the meantime, this is one guy's "thank you" for all everyone, company and visitors, contributes here. I am personally grateful for it, even if it might seem like this post puts me on the opposite side of the fence from you.

Dear Kobold people,

Please stop making things I want to buy for a while. I am out of money. Thank you in advance for your consideration of my kittens, who need food.

In case anyone's interested, the responses of WotC designers to questions about 4E from Slashdot readers have been posted. I would imagine that most regulars here already know a lot of this, but I'm posting the link on the off chance that someone might be curious.
