![]() @Oceanshieldwolf Thanks for the correction, I was thinking of the last standalone module, which has a very different title so who knows where my mind was at. So far it seems as we have: Martial:
Divine:
Arcane:
Skill:
So with list in mind, I'm going to propose some sort of Bard. Someone has to stay out of the thickest battles and document the experience and spin the myths. ![]()
![]() I'd also be interested in joining a RotR or WotR campaign if done here via PbP. I'd second Bill's caution about Rappan Athuk being done via PbP unless you're up for a lot of slow combat. I think you'll find most people on these boards are pretty friendly. I've noted very few exceptions myself, anyway. ![]()

![]() I need a day or three to catch up on where you've been and where you may yet be going. In the meantime, if you should happen to find someone more appropriate for your group, then by all means, please run with that. Feel free to continue to recruit. For the record, I'm a long time player, and long time GM for several systems. I won't state my age, but let's just say I was barely 12 or 13 when I began playing with that pink box. I'm still somewhat fresh off the PbP farm, but I catch on quick enough. My typical posting rate may slow to as low as 3 times a week, although I'm capable of posting more frequently if properly prodded. I have PM'd Sir Corvus, and have (hopefully) humbly enough requested his insights into the campaign and group. ![]()

![]() To the esteemed members of the Hawthorne Societie, I hope this letter finds you in good spirits and in better health. Word of your exploits has reached my ears this very day from the local news crier. I feel obligated to reach out to you with this dispatch, and inform you of my interest in your activities there in Ravengro. I am dispatching my best scribe north at once to enjoin with you, and I entreat you to relay to him a detailed study of your exploits, though I know you have little enough time to do so what with all of your energies focused on cleansing and scouring. In return for your assistance with his recordings, I will make sure that your names are indelibly inscribed in the annals of history. Both here in Oppara and in every city and town between here and Ustalav. My current business is in the trade of stories, and I just have a feeling yours is just unfolding and will be epic and exciting. Villagers and noblepeople will sing of your praises for generations to come. Grandparents will tell their grandchildren of your heroic deeds. If that offer isn't enticing enough (and who would pass on such fame and glory), my agent is authorized to make a substantial donation in your name to the charity of your choice. Substantial. You will recognize my scribe by his tall and portly appearance. He will be dressed very plainly, and will be wearing the thickest of glasses. His penchant for wine is matched in magnitude only by his lack of table manners. While he may seem crude to some, I find his work impeccable. He is my best employee. The fact that he is my only living employee has no bearing on this matter. My heart races in anticipation to read what new feats of derring-do you may perform. I have complete confidence that you will find my offer irresistible, and will oblige me with this princely favor. Your greatest aficionado from afar,

![]() Heh, I don't even know when they come out, I just find them in my boxes every other month. Assuming you're talking about the PF comic? Edit: I looked at my subscriptions, and I guess they're actually about 1/month. And I don't see a comic until May, so perhaps you're talking about something else comic related? I'll confess that I was a Heavy Metal reader as a kid and young adult, but never really much of a comics guy. ![]()

![]() Horfil, Yeah, I realized the sad truth of it back around Nov. 19th. I'll take the blame for it -- I didn't keep the pace moving or give you guys options out at critical times. I still very much want to play more PbP, but I'm taking this as a lesson that I may not have the skill (yet) for DMing this style, or perhaps it's a question of time (baby due in a few weeks). I would like to have rebooted this campaign into something more "sandboxy" at Falcon's Hollow, but I think the momentum was already dead at that point. Rather than drag you all along further on a failed path, I decided to declare defeat and release you to more rewarding pursuits. :) At any rate, happy holidays, and thanks for playing as far as you did. ![]()

![]() OK, thanks for the feedback. Having said such truths, we should probably call it a day with that. My original scope was to run a short module -- something long enough to get a good flavor, but not so long as to require a year's commitment from anyone. After I got us off track on the module (yeah, it was too railroady, and I didn't loosen the rails enough or on time), trying to reset back to a sandbox based on the original hooks is a too little too late, methinks. It's apparent that I've lost too much momentum and interest has waned. I do thank you all heartily for taking the chance and time to play this with me. Although I wouldn't call this a success, I do appreciate the experience. I do regret, though, that we couldn't really finish out any adventure fully. I wish you all luck and much fun on your other campaigns. ![]()

Played him for about eight months in EQ 1 -- and actually roleplayed -- so there's a lot of sentimental attachment. I'll re-create him ASAP. I'm taking this to mean you're going with warrior. OK, so far we have, Barbarian Warrior
![]()
![]() How many do you need to start? Seems like we may have 4 ready to go, not counting Jinx. BTW, my recollection of EQ was there was a LOT of solo play in the early levels. Ah the good old days of the Feydark, running between Felwithe and Kelethin looking for that rare drop and getting ganked by Crushbones. I told my wife about "Train to Zone" a few weeks ago while we were playing GuildWars 2. Will there be raid level quests available at the end of the campaign? ![]()

I have been interested in this setting for quite some time. I won't admit to being voracious, but I can probably handle your 1/day posting requirement. ![]()
![]() ThorGN wrote: Storycrafter, I thought you didn't like the PBP format? Not at all. If you're referring to Rene's PFS game thread, that was a simple mental lapse -- for some reason I had the idea that Rene was running that through VTT, and given the situation with lots of people on standby and the module that was on tap, it was probably better to offer up my seat for that moment. I'll be watching Rene's future PbP offerings like a hawk, trust me. ![]()
![]() I'm not exactly an old hand around here, but let me be the first to welcome you to the boards. I'm sure you'll enjoy time spent here. A new thread was recently started trying to gather interest in a Pathfinder Society First Steps game, so I'd hop over and signify interest there. Your timing may be fortuitous. ![]()

Hey, now that I see you're running PBP this way, I'll be spamming your future recruiting threads. Welcome to the funhouse! ![]()
![]() As this campaign appears to be in a defacto state of abandoned, I'm popping in to see if there is interest in this same Shackled City campaign, but set in Golarion and using the PathFinder rules. I realize you have all invested some time in creating 3.5 edition characters, and while I do have a rather complete set of 3.5, I'm trying to focus my efforts on learning just a few systems. The differences between 3.5 and PF will probably trip me up every time (I'm much more familiar with the later). In addition, while I'm a long-time GM, I'm new to PBP. I have recently started another short-scoped adventure, but my ultimate goal is to eventually run either RotRL or Shackled City. As you seem to be a group of players pretty much already organized for purposes of playing towards one of those goals, I might as well seize the opportunity. My regrets to DM Choppy -- I sincerely hope everything is well with him and his family in real life. ![]()

1) I'm in EST (GMT-5), US. Weeknights are good, while every other Sunday is probably better. 2) Would love to play RotRL or Shackled City.3) I'd rather enroll as player. I already run a number of other things so I'm not sure if I can commit to GMing. Several of my campaigns use MapTools with frameworks so I'm quite comfortable with that. I would be interested to try Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds as well. Are you specifically looking for a web based VTT? ![]()
![]() Neil Spicer wrote: That way, we can think of this thread as the place where people "ask for feedback"...we give them the quick hit with the judges' discussion of their item here...but then we take the ones we cherry pick off to another thread where we give a more complete analysis. That'll let me continue copy/pasting the judges' discussion of items for the new requests that show up here (some of which I might also tag for an in-depth review in the other thread). Apologies if this was asked before [1], but why not improve the submission system so that as the judges enter their initial notes on the item, they are simply recorded and revealed to us privately after announcement of the finalists. if all we are looking for is a quick and dirty accounting of how the judges felt about our submission, we can get that without any judge having to do any extra work after the announcement. This "critique-my-item" thread seems like a stop gap for the lack of such a feature in the submission system. It appears as though you're just copying and pasting from some other record source anyway, why not just link that source on an individual item post basis and focus your in-depth discussions and analysis on the "keep" items that didn't make it? Personally, I'd be happy with the rough and terse notes. I wouldn't ask for dialogue on the topic unless my item somehow made someone's keep pile, and then I might be bold enough to ask for more clarification. If mine was an auto-reject, I just need to know on which aspect. I'd take my notes, humble pie, and hopefully not repeat that mistake next year. Neil Spicer wrote:
While I wouldn't disagree with you here at all, I would like to humbly submit that there are, as most of the judges have often expressed, certain biases and prejudices inherent in the subjective voting of the first round. While it may be helpful to learn from other's mistakes, it might also be helpful for those of us who thought they may have had a rather unique item to gain further insights into our failures aside from the simple facts that are present in the mechanics discussions of other items. To my mind, there are the mechanics and formatting, which are mostly facts based and not as easily debated, and there are the non-tangible properties that make it "supahstahr". Insight on the later is just as useful to me as the former. I'd rather see in-depth discussions on the items that were close and try to learn the wisdom to discern the difference in subtle failings, than to wade through the glut of auto-rejects trying to sift gold from dust. I think the system can do more to help the judges. [1] I looked but found no such query ![]()
![]() When you get time, I'd appreciate a critique dump. Many thanks. Battle Standard of Alacrity
The standard may be carried by a cavalier (or his mount), or may be unfurled and planted in the ground as a standard action. The standard provides a morale boosting boon to its owner and all allies who are within sight of it. As long as the banner is clearly visible, it provides a +4 morale bonus on attack rolls to confirm critical hits. In addition, while clearly visible, it provides a +4 morale bonus to saves against fear, +2 morale bonus to checks made with the Perform skill, and a +2 morale bonus to Concentration checks. If the standard is covered or toppled, these effects end until replanted by an ally (or re-carried by a cavalier). Construction
